The Elder Scrolls Online |OT| of THE MOST HYPED GAME EVER

So I'm in the UK and have missed the massive promotional push for this game! Man how could I have been so blind...

PS4 - have they announced a retail price for the game and what it will cost monthly (before it goes F2P obviously)?

Going by PC price, and amazon preorder price, it's probably going to be $60 also. Same deal with monthly.

I'm shocked at how little marketing I've seen so far for this game with such a massive budget.

I don't think this game got that large of a budget. Its a internet hyperbole that MMOs cost super duper levels of funding to make. They do cost more than the run of the mill AAA console release, but not double or triple. Only when they are mis-managed like SWTOR is when they get to GTA V style budgets. Just to put it in perspective SWTOR went into pre-production in late 05/06 (when they canned kotor 3/denied SOE the license to develop SWG 2).

I am buying this purely because a friend spent $2000 on his first gaming PC to play it. I feel I should be there to help him through the recovery process lol.

ESO started production in 2007, so even longer than SWTOR took to release.

No PS4 details that I've seen. The only place I've seen ESO really promoted is on IGN, who are pushing it pretty heavily.

I like that image and the smileys bowing beside it. They're funny.

Damn, those quotes.

fallingdove was just joking. Someone said 'more hyperbole' in the NDA thread, and that was how he gave it.

The first 'big' Elder Scrolls (and I use the term loosely here) game I won't be playing. I'd rather subject myself to the horror of Daggerfall's first dungeon again than pay money every month to play this.

That said, with the little marketing they've been pumping into it, I think ZeniMax has started to realize it's failed. I'm epxecting this to go F2P within six months. I'm also expecting the development of the next singleplayer Bethesda RPG will be accelerated just for them to recoup their losses.

5 Day Early Access started 30 minutes ago. Plenty of people watching it on Twitch, so I guess people are at least curious about the game.

It's sad. These MMOs that are attached to big name franchises with insane prices are obvious misguided cash grabs. I don't feel like this or tortanic were made because someone decided they could genuinely make a better game in the form of an MMO.

Apparently I don't have account permissions that allow me to play. Even though I have the 5 day preorder access applied to my account.

Whatever, scrublords.

Watching Cohh, walking up to an injured npc lady yelling if anyone can hear her while being surrounded by like 10 players.

That's ESO in a nutshell.

Why do so many streamers play in third person? The greatest draw for me is the old-school first person MMO ala EverQuest.

My girlfriend really wants to play this so we bought the standard editions. I didn't hate the beta. I thought the graphics were great and there seems to be a lot of depth so I'm looking forward to playing a bit more seriously than I did in beta.

SWTOR is the 2nd or 3rd biggest MMO in the west. Last year they made almost 140 million off cash shop purchases alone, never mind subs. I think Zenimax would be ok with that level of flop.

Oh wow. Good for them. F2P is making more and more sense all of the time.

I have 0 faith in the game, but I still bought it because I like to waste time in new MMOs.

Me too (haven't bought it though). I love dicking around in mmos for the first couple of weeks. Tempted to pick this up next week or today even.

Waiting for this to get cheap so I can pick it up. I really don't think its that bad. I like the smaller number bar (my biggest complaint about MMOs) and the free targeting. The PVP looks like it could be fun too. With MMO's I usually wait to see how much of the game is missing on launch.

Woot.....got the name I like to go for in MMORPGs. Sorry to whoever had it in beta.

I am Wallrick, an Imperial Dragonknight.

I think that this game honestly got a pretty bum rap in a lot of ways. I think the complaints that it might not be a great ES game are valid, but think it is an above average MMO, and they do a pretty good job of world building and wrapping an ES skin around that core MMO experience. That might not end up being worth a sub, but I'm pretty happy I threw down the box price at least. I've found a bunch of stuff off the beaten path as a new Daggerfall covenant character - tha game does reward exploration pretty well. Also like that all the quests so far have decent narrative structures. That's a big improvement coming from the Wildstar beta this weekend.

Does anyone know if you can purchase the Imperial Mount but not play the Imperial class? I want to be a Nightblade so want to roll a Khajit, but also want to take advantage of the Imperial edition software..

So like WoW? Why are you upset over something you DO NOT have to buy. It's just silly man.

As we've seen literally hundreds of times, what you don't have to buy can still affect you. The developer usually gives some kind of incentive to buy an item so they balance the game to annoy you just enough to buy in. So even if you don't buy, you're now playing a shittier game than you'd play without a cash shop.

See: Diablo 3 and its real-money auction house. Its very existence got Blizzard to balance the game so that high-end items would almost never drop in your game.

I have been playing MMORPGs for more than 14 years, and i am seriously enjoying ESO. Questing is really fun and immersive. There are quests with no markers but just hints (example: a letter tells you the steps you should follow to find a treasure); most of the ones i completed so far are interesting, and quality wise better than your average MMO (kill x amount of y).

There are a lot of incentives in exploring the world, you can find quests, treasure chests with really good items, books to read that give you skill points in weapons and armor, skyshards, and more. Crafting is also very interesting.

Cant wait to jump into the PvP campaign, as an ex DAOC player i am intrigued.

Ouch. Honestly spending even half that money on a PC would be give you a machine that would be kinda overpowered for this game. It doesn't look very good by PC game standards.

Still, at least he'll have a powerful machine afterwards, even if the reason he bought it was silly...

I'm trying to think what he'd get in order to even have something that cost that much. That's a ridiculously large amount. Did it come with a free used car?

Oh and this isn't nearly as bad as 14 1.0. Trust me, I stuck with that game for a long time with many gaffers and 14 was a lot worse at launch.

Watching streams, the environments look decent, the music is really nice, but the combat is just really bad looking. Might pick up once it goes B2P or F2P, or has a significant price drop.

LIAM NEESON IS THE BEST DAD OF ALL TIME! while I realize his great performance is an exception, and famous people often do a poor job, you gotta mention the great successes!

I found Liam Neeson's performance pretty bad in FO3, his delivery was just so flat. It was just "Hi, I am Liam Neeson, I'm your dad."

Is there a way to pick up quests again? I got a few steps into the one where you have to protect the queen and it bugged on me so I had to abandon it. Now I can't find a way to pick it up again anywhere in the first town.

So... how does one get this game? I know its coming to next gen consoles in April, right?

Do you have to pay the sub for the first month if you get it on PC?

Console release is tentatively set for June. I think that's kind of optimistic at the moment, but who knows. Also, your first month sub is free with purchase of the game.

I don't know? Dual graphics cards most likely. I went and built a seriously overpowered machine last summer and it only ran me $1400. Hell, I could have gotten a titan and it still wouldn't have bumped it up to $2000.

I think many think the average MMO as a bad game and that combined with the ES skin negativity would pour out.
