So Dark Souls II [PC] is launching in less then a month and there's no footage of it.

I'm willing to bet the character rendering settings have to do with LOD, since in Dark Souls 2 the further things away are from you, their animations looks like they run at 5 fps. It's worse than Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.

Do we have an embargo date on previews or something? Giantbomb has the game and several journos by the looks of it.

BAMCO can be so incredibily shady when it comes to this stuff.

Found on the internet. Might be real, might be fake

Options look very pleasing.
Only thing that worries me now is the state of the lighting.

What do they mean by model quality? Character models or generally all geometry stuff?

Could be anything, it's FROM, might mean it loads higher poly models, might mean improved shader effects (like the specular maps).

Edit: If the options screen is legit, I wonder if it will be possible to further enhance the game by simply tweaking .ini files. That would be lovely.

That makes sense. I was wondering if there was anything noticeable about character models other than the player which might be improved in the PC version.

Actually, I dunno if it was all a dream or not, but I'm positive I read a tweet from one of the GB guys strongly hinting that they'd have something to show from the PC port this week. I'm flabbergasted.

Yes, I remember that too.

Valid concerns, but I wonder if lighting options could fall under "shadows" or "effects" if true.

Lighting getting the same downgrade would be a bummer, but if it runs well and has the options as listed that'd still be welcome. And by the end of playing the console version I was very much over the graphics being disappointing anyway, since I was enjoying it so much (and the ugliest moment of the game is very early on).

Having the option to disable camera motion blur is good but the best thing is to disable motion blur all together. DS1 had some ugly ass motion blur.

You're crazy! When playing in 30fps, the motion blur honestly looks awesome.

I'd of course rather play 60 without it, but if you're stuck at 30 the motion blur is really good.

I have not tried to go all the way through yet, I don't get paid for another week or so and should save some money after b2g1 at Target.

Hey, just as a bit of an update, I contacted GMG support and they didn't give me a discount code, but the support rep did add some credit to my account. Assuming that April 11th they'll add the cash/credit back option back again (April 11th is when the emailed codes expire), with the credit they give, it should about even out.

I'll post a transcript of the support text if you want to try and go about a similar route, though because you already tried they may not end up doing it.

Support text

I believe I set the support area to "Account".

Looking at my balance, I think they added on ~$3, so if you were to get the same, along with a 20% discount code, you'd actually be even better off than the 25% off code.

SSAO isn't lighting though, it's basically emulated shadows.

I also liked it a lot in 60 FPS. It actually adjusts perfectly to the framerate.

I'd actually group SSAO as a "lighting" option, just like shadow quality. All lighting in games is fake to some extent, in the end it's still trying to emulate light behavior. (This doesn't change the fact that there's no "vertical slice lighting" option, just wanted to point it out)

That is actually a really good point of discussion.
Well, if they did implement full VAC it would be like any other online game -- no modding while online.

Yeah, I should probably clarify that SSAO isn't the same as lighting in the original context of the first poster. He was referring to lighting in the sense of what would be changed to be more like the original reveal.

That would be unfortunate, but if I were playing Dark Souls again in a decade I would probably not find too many people online anyways.

Would just boot up one of the sequels for some online play.

I wish they'd give early access to some guys around here who would provide us some delicious downsampled shots.

I refuse to believe that there's not a single technically minded person that wants to illuminate the situation among all the journalists that already have the PC version on their Steam press accounts.

The demand for the story is obviously there, so a ton of clicks would be assured.

So I assume there's an NDA on the PC version, which should be up early this week (or Brad wouldn't have posted that on Twitter).

Either way, we'll know soon.

Was just checking out the recommended specs on Steam, noticed this:

Recommended:
OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8
Processor: Intel® CoreTM i3 2100 3.10GHz or AMD® A8 3870K 3.0GHz
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 750 or ATI Radeon™ HD 6870 or higher
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 14 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 9 sound device
Additional Notes: Controller support: Microsoft Xbox 360® Controller for Windows® (or equivalent) recommended

Seems a bit steep to need a 750 for just higher-res textures. Maybe the dynamic lighting is returning after all?

Only because of the tiny room tbh. Otherwise he's a pushover.

I'm not saying he is not a pushover in any other circumstance. The ferocity and intensity in those swings would be apparent no matter the size of the room.

Recommended specs have been a joke for a long time, but in the last year or so publishers have turned them into utter bullshit.

Take them with a massive grain of salt. On top of that, how is a 750 comparable to a 6870?

I would imagine that will be 9 AM Pacific and the host will be Giantbomb initially, though they have a youtube channel. Not sure if they upload to both simultaneously.

Set your calenders now, get the webm's ready.
