'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

You two were OGs in the OT when it started so you guys obviously have clearance. Vire I was pretty worried about you this afternoon when the 60 FPS targeting had not yet been tweeted by the Duck Man.

:lol

I was ready to flip some tables, but all is well in the world. That is honestly my number one reason to get this remastered version, even above 1080P resolution.

Now we just need to find out how the cutscenes are rendered... ideally real-time. But not a deal breaker either way.

ah man so you're telling me it's not fast and fun like CoD? are there even any killstreaks bro?

If by killstreaks you mean throwing a brick at one guy, then smashing his friends head in with an steel bar and then finishing off the first guy with a shotgun to the face before he's recovered from the brick. Yes.

Day One. I love GCU...not having to pay full price makes me much more likely to pick up new releases. And this is a case I'm very happy I waited. I've been so tempted so many times by the greatness of this game, but my 360/PS3 backlog is just too long so that kinda saved me from the double-dip. Hopefully I can get thru all the Uncharteds and a few other games before this drops. I think I'm more excited about this re-release than pretty much any other announced title except The Witcher 3 (and Dragon Age 3 with cautious reservation).

I just hope they're 1080p and not upscaled 720p like most remasters are.

No thanks. I'd rather just pray and spray, owning noobs

Shit like this makes it really hard to wait to have to replay it again on PS4

I've had to have played this game at least once every two months or more since it released. It's going to be a tough wait.

It's going to be the first time all over again in a totally different way I feel

*thinks of farmhouse scene*

chills.

Here's some upgrades we basically can expect to see in the remaster

Pre-rendered Cutscene of Tess:

If the models look even better than the pre-rendered scenes I'd be more than happy...

Well you're not going to lose anything in a port, TLoU is going to look massively better.

If you mean like UC4/TLoU2, I think the chances of those games being 60fps is practically zero.

The new hardware is going to allow for a much better looking game at 30fps, those changes are just too complex and costly to implement into a port, so it makes more sense to use that overhead on performance.

Also, am I strange if I actually like motion blur? I loved that TLoU had it.

Visually speaking I think The Order hits all the right notes for me. My only fear with that one is that there going to make a big fuss about the ability to transition from cutscene to game(ala Max Payne 3) but never offer anyactual deviation in the gameplay(ala Max Payne 3.) That is the wrong kind of cineamtic.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds it just a little bit skeezy that the game's getting a re-release less than a year after launch at full retail price, right? I mean, I was a little weary when HD Collections started being a thing last gen, and those had two or three games included at a bargain price. Hell even Nintendo "only" charged $50 for WWHD, and they retooled that game a fair bit.

It's good for people who haven't played it yet, at least.

I love motion blur as well. Higher framerates don't mean it'll be gone, just tuned to work with the camera speed better. It'll probably look more like the natural motion blur caused by your eyes instead of from a camera lens.

I love me some motion blur

When it was absent during Uncharted 3's release that first day or so, everything felt off in a weird way.

Well see.

I just don't see how 60FPS is needed. As I noted earlier, MG:R and COD have it, but they are also fast games. TLoU is slower paced, so therefore, what is the point?

There's like three people in this thread that are actually excited about this games release and everybody else is concerned and miffed about performance and price.

Fucking sad

Excited about what exactly? The game is already out and 60fps isn't a guarantee for this so what else is there to look forward to?

I think you might be blowing this out of proportion.

I like motion blur too, I like it even more at 60fps, it's like squirming in warm goo.

I don't like the cutscene 'transition' thing from MGS4/GTA5, I prefer just the hard cut. I have a lot of hope for The Order, RAD are an exceptionally talented studio, and I think it looks beautiful, the little bit of gameplay we've seen is a little bland, but I think it's misleading, it's before you have your crazy weapons, and it's just fighting dudes. I think we'll see it for real at E3, and people will shit bricks.

It'll benefit animation a lot and for anyone with an LCD it'll have a higher temporal resolution. As someone who's very sensitive to shifts in motion resolution, that's the biggest thing about 60fps for me, the motion clarity.

Yeah Im with you on this 100%. The only reason I'm somewhat accepting of it this go around is the near consensus this was a legit GOTY winner...and bc I havent played it yet. If Id already played it Id probably be waiting for a big sale at half price. The sales might not happen as quickly for this game as they did with, say, Thief however...simply bc TLOU is a truly rare, great gaming experience (while Thief is considered average to merely good by most) and theres still a lack of top flight games on PS4. Its sort of odd that a re-release from last gen will instantly become the best game on a new console, but it is what it is.

i think that's asking for a lighting system overhaul

I don't think it's too skeezy tbh. The game is, essentially, a Game of the Year edition that includes all the DLC and GotY editions for games are usually full-priced (I know Skyrim, Borderlands 1/2, and believe Uncharted 2/3 as well just off the top of my head). So you throw in that + the graphical improvements the game is getting, I don't think the price is too outrageous.

The cutscenes were made in-engine (though pre-rendered with multiple PS3s). So the engine itself is already capable of that lighting. Don't think it's going to need any overhaul, assuming the PS4 can pull it off in realtime.

Okay...

I will buy a PS4.

This makes me wonder if TLOU Remastered might actually be a legit system seller. Can you imagine how many PS4s they'd sell if they released a $399 package including TLOU? Given how well PS4 is selling, theres no reason to do it yet. But, hell, even a small discount price with the game included for, say, $449 would probably shoot right to the top of sales charts for a couple months at least.

I've said before I know nothing about this game and haven't seen any media except for a snippet of gameplay, not even a trailer. Will be going in full fresh. Day One.

I can't speak to MGS4 but I really liked GTA 5's. Max Payne 3 on the other hand...

But RAD is the one to watch this year I feel, honestly, I think the thing that impressed me the most about The Order is the fact that this:

Is actually playable.

Small things like that are what dreams are made from. Here is hoping that this:

Is actually the player pushing the character forward

I hope they change the trophies so you dont have to play though the single player 3 times (2 on survivor) to get all the trophies.

Maybe since this is the remastered version they could add some more single player trophies that get people to play with the systems a little more.

Actually since this will include all this it will probably just be one giant trophy list so you need to get every trophy from the main game and the DLC's for the plat. Bugger

Hope I can play the remastered version by paying an upgrade fee and using the ps3 disc. Pkeaseeeee, Sony

Yeah something I doubt can happen there, but hopefully for season pass owners they can offer a Digital discount. Someone tweet that like its hot

Anyone else think Ellie's face looks off on the cover? Or is it just me?

First thing I thought when I saw the cover. Made me wonder if they are doing slight alterations like they did to Lara on Tomb Raider

I really hope so. Honestly, talk of the desert aside, one of the reasons I loved UC3 was that it gave you small moments like that, such as pushing Cutter through the cave, etc.

It might be small or dumb to others, but I really hope those moments(I know the first actually is) are not independent of player input.

Anyone thinks this game is worth for $60?

To recap:

Last-gen: Remaster titles came with two or three games at half-price in the same box. These remaster product included games appeared time ago in the market.

Next-gen: Remaster titles include just one game at full price. These collections include games that have reached the shelves one year ago as much.

We are becoming insane. What’s next?
Yeah, pretty sure there were plenty of examples of that earlier last gen such as Bully. It's a relatively new game that still holds it's value, it's not that we're going insane but that you're being miserly and seemingly taking issue with people who aren't.

EDIT: Nevermind the angle that this is effectively a GotY edition with actual improved visuals and performance.

Another thing I like about this remaster is that ND is handling it. Thumbs UP ND for not letting a peasant dev touch this masterpiece.

I think there's a lot of developers like Bluepoint that people would take issue with being called "peasant developers", never mind how ridiculous that sounds.

But I'm glad they're killing two birds with one stone this way. Great to get some of the groundwork laid out for next gen proper while updating a great game.
