I don't want to be jerk but really Captain Earth should be on great or good because really most of the things said in the anime didn't make sense like libido or whatever like seriously, and don't get me started on the boomerang nonsense. Overall it was still good or great for 2 episodes.

I wasn't too sure on having a whole run of AO cases coming up, but this first episode was quite good. I thought it was going to be mostly Detective Boys nonsense, but that's mostly pushed to the side in favor of some surprisingly on point Haibara moments and great Ran/Sonoko scenes. Sonoko even gets the chance to display some more raw emotion than usual. This is one of those episodes where the writers really get what makes the characters tick. And that scene with Haibara sleeping in front of her computer was adorable.

Listen, obviously I am the minority opinion on this matter (clearly) and it's clear many of you here like Kyon. I however think he's a real buzzkill. I think balancing cynicism and hyper-activeness is tricky. They are obviously the "opposites attract" type of relationship. That being said it makes Kyon seem like a buzzkill. Especially if you like Haruhi's antics. So while I don't despise him, I don't particularly like him either. I actually have a friend like Kyon. Very cynical all the time and is basically the fun killer at parties or events. Love the guy to death (obviously) but he gets on my nerves sometimes. He knows it but doesn't really care and has told me as much. (Just like Kyon)
I don't mind him but he's not the life of the show. To me personally anyways.

Once in a time. There comes a show that has the prestigious honor to be called: The Birdemic of Anime. Hold that title proud. The dub was so bad, it's hilarious. The action was so bad it's hilarious. The everything was so bad it's amazing.
The tears of a dog don't come from sadness. But from joy. Thank you Garzey's WIng. I gotta take you slowly since there's only 3 of you, so I won't marathon you. I have to savor you and experience you slowly. Like a really good dessert.
If you dislike Kyon, you probably won't love the movie then. The movie is like 90% Kyon character development and Sugita delivering brilliant VA work, and 10% "Oooooh it comes back full circle"

To a certain extent I agree with you. It doesn't deserve cynicism every minute Kyon is with Haruhi though. It just makes him sound like a whiner.
90% of what he does is complain about Haruhi and her ideas.

This is the sort of show THE LIST was originally made for. When you see a list show it should give you similar feelings. It has been cluttered with some bad stuff over time.
She's basically the anime equivalent of the little boy from the "It's A Good Life" Twilight Zone episode.

Let me ask this: When Kyon isn't complaining about Haruhi what else is he doing that helps the story along?
He's just there for the ride.
Also the fact that her eyes would make an inbred mantis' features look normal.

This so much this. Kyon is supposed to be like this. If you remember Haruhi drags him out to do all this shit and he clearly dislikes it, but people keep telling him "you gotta do it. FOR THE WORLD". At this point it's obvious that you are indeed watching the show for different reasons if you can't sympathize with him. He sees this horrible hyperactive girl do w/e the fuck she wants to do, drags him along, and he can't really look for support from others because they have their own reasons to not interfere but beg him behind the scenes to not do anything to upset her. All they do is smile and follow. Except for what's her face who cries and uguuuus every 5 seconds. God I hated her. I think you're attempting to watch this as D-Frag with a bigger budget, where the main character is basically the straight man and it's all for the comedy. That is not the case for the show.

When he isn't complaining he's doing absolutely everything to move the story along, considering that he's the protagonist and everybody else relies on him to deal with everything regarding Haruhi.
I'm looking forward to your thoughts on Oreki as he's another favorite of fans, and his character is also the most cynical. There's major differences obviously, but just curious how you'll view him.
I like that one. It works on many levels.

I haven't gotten to Disappearance yet.
The thing is, and they make this pretty clear over and over again, that Haruhi does whatever the hell she wants regardless of what Kyon says. The only time he's affected anything was episode 14 and even then everyone had to drag him kicking and screaming to do it. The supporting characters affect what Kyon does and says. Haruhi is the one that really decides how the plot moves along. Kyon is just the middle man who is supposed to affect Haruhi's decision making.

I wonder too. I don't hate Kyon, I just don't like him. But I don't hate cynical/sarcastic characters in general. From what I am told of the story it sounds pretty reasonable. His character doesn't sound bad. I guess we will see once I get past Endless Eight, The Sigh and The Disappearance.
Sure, but Kyon is still obviously the protagonist even from just watching the first season. So I'm still wondering what you believe the story of Haruhi is.

Hooray for Sayaka kicking some ass, you don good. As for Madoka crying, brought back some feels that I encountered in episode 3. Then a new character is shown who looks really obnoxious but time will tell. So far I'm really enjoying this anime.

Man, I wish I could participate in this Haruhi discussion, but I have neither the analysis capability nor eloquence to match up to what's already been said.
That, and the last time I watched the TV series was around when it aired. So I've forgotten a fair bit of the details.
