New Destiny Gameplay

This video doesn't look particularly great I have to say. I'm looking forward to the game but this vertical slice seems pretty run of the mill

That was some basic-ass gameplay: run around an open area, shoot, shoot, shoot, run around an open area, shoot, shoot, shoot.

I really hope the writing is good, but, then again, it's Bungie, so I probably shouldn't expect too much.

Visually, it's nice, though.

i've seen hundreds of times this type of objective on other games, protect someone that is hacking something.
early footage seemed more interesting than this.

What an embarrassing thread.

I'll come back when the genius junior members in here decide once and for all whether this game is a clone of Halo or Mass Effect or Borderlands or Half-Life 2 or Killzone in their amazingly insightful drive-by posts.
Did they hurt your feelings?

Really underwhelming...especially with the switch from 1st person to 3rd for certain abilities. Very jarring.

As others have pointed out, it's like Borderlands with another paint job. If they're gonna have dedicated servers, I don't there'll be dedicated Aus servers. I'm not gonna pay for a 2-300+ ms FPS. Nor do I have the intention to ever pay for Sony's online services either.

I had to laugh at the good ol' "need time to unlock this, hold them off!" generic FPS nonsense.

First impression: gameplay looks fun, but I have concerns. The mission and encounter design is pure Halo: linear progression but open battlefields facilitate many strategies and approach vectors.

When the AI said he couldn't unlock the doors for a bit and waves of enemies started coming, I immidiately though of Cortana unlocking the doors on Truth and Reconciliation back in the first Halo. Having to wait for a door/dropship/elevator while working off waves of enemies is a Halo staple, so I figured it would be in Destiny. I'm surprised to see it showcased so early, though; I hope the encounters get more creative later on.

Visually looks great but it's doing a lot of stuff with the gunplay that typically turns me off of FPS; ADS, and way too much pyrotechnics for the abilities and effects. It made it hard to really tell what was going at times.

This post is very condescending and off-base.

The bottom line is that the game came across as quite boring in that video to many of us. That's fine if you don't agree, but that's not the right way to disagree.

A+ for me. The pacing seems perfect compared to the frenetic mess of games like Call of Duty and Titanfall. And speaking of boring, I doubt I'll be done with Destiny in a single evening like I was with Titanfall.

You guys should really read the Eurogamer preview
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-04-28-getting-to-play-destiny-better-than-halo

Playing Destiny now, the underrated Halo 3: ODST all of a sudden makes much more sense. I see Destiny as lots of New Mombasas, each fleshed out and given their own identity, that combine to form a mythic science fiction world in which all roads lead back to The Tower

This has me excited as I feel like out of everyone I know I was the only one that really got into and enjoyed ODST. I played the entire campaign with headphones on and really enjoyed the storytelling and atmosphere of the whole thing. Not to mention the Co-op multiplayer (Firefight & Campaign) was a lot of fun after beating the game solo. The new footage looks good and I'm excited to get my hands on it this summer.

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!
Great artistic work, but the video is pretty boring.

I think they have a marketing problem with this game. People still don't have a clear picture what its suppose to be. Not only is it evident in this thread but also in some of the previews I've read and watched. I know Bungie likes to be coy about their games but it was a mistake this time.

This looks super good.

I guess the one thing that I'm hesitant about is the game speed. I'm going to miss Titanfall's speed and maneuverability, movement in that game just feels so right.

I don't think there is any doubt that it looks like someone tossed Borderlands and Halo into a blender.

I'm not seeing Mass Effect, Red Dead, Skyrim, or HL2 though.

I can kind of see a Mass Effect vibe, but yea Red Dead, Skyrim, and HL2 are not what I'm seeing either. Are there really people here comparing it to Red Dead and Skyrim though?

Nothing wrong with junior members dude, don't be an ass, Captain Generalise.

The Eurogamer preview got me hyped. They seem to think that Destiny is very much like Halo and as a Bungie "Halo" fan this pleases me greatly.

Coming into this thread blind... I haven't followed Destiny at all. But, it definitely looks like a game with guns. I mean, what else can you say? I've played this, as have you. as have most of us.. As far as the boost from last gen open world, to this, considering infamous, its underwhelming visually. And I think we are going to get a good picture of the difference in PS4 titles, and multiplatforms from Destiny.

The scale argument, thank god, is dead with Infamous. That excuse is over, and really GTA5 was the precursor. You can have scale, and have some pretty buttery visuals/processing/particles/etc. This doesn't look much more interesting than what we've seen of games in the past decade.

I am really not impressed by anything in this trailer. Esp for a PS4/PC title.

Because you're asking someone to buy it. That is why things are new, and fresh. Moderation is fine. No, everything literally does not need to be new, or fresh. A game being ripe, is fine as well. But none of that is what I'm seeing in destiny. I see more of the same gameplay in a 7 minute video. The dynamics, the animations, the pacing, its all the same old shit.

Destiny seems to have a lot of hype, and even on the outside of the hype bubble, it just looks like a sci-fi shooter that wouldn't even be a thing if it wasn't for the pedigree of the developer.

Sort of reminds me of insomiac with Resistance 2/3(whiehver one they lost their minds with on scale) The problem is that the gameplay is monotonous. Newer and fresh gameplay experiences can be expected with new hardware and walls being broken that were in the way before.

Its an excuse to keep the current state of bullshit gaming going. Just texture map updates for the same gameplay and $400 dollars to buy the system. meh.

First off just because a game is "a game with guns" doesn't mean that there is not levels of quality and enjoyment in that scale. Titanfall is such a good game not because of graphics but because it is like a drug for the brain.

And though infamous is an amazing graphic game...it feels empty...compared to an open world game like gta v it doesn't feel like the world is really populated

This bit of the Eurogamer preview seems promising:

The hunt for better and better loot will keep me going for months, but Destiny's emergent massively multiplayer gameplay is what will keep me playing for years. Take on a random public quest, for example, and perhaps you quickly realise you're in over your head. Then, over the hill comes another Guardian, a white knight to save you from certain death. You're saved. You wave. You group up, summon your Sparrow then speed off towards some loot-packed adventure over the next hill, the sun setting on the ruins of the Cosmodrome. Or the Moon. Or Venus. Or maybe Mars. Destiny's greatness will lie in how well it sows the best of World of Warcraft and the best of Halo into a seamless virtual fabric. I'm still waiting to find out if Bungie has successfully threaded the best of Blizzard's MMO, but I'm certain it's successfully threaded the best of Halo.

Destiny is Halo evolved, and it's a natural evolution, given the way gaming has gone in the 13 years since the release of the first game in the series. Playing Destiny now, the underrated Halo 3: ODST all of a sudden makes much more sense. I see Destiny as lots of New Mombasas, each fleshed out and given their own identity, that combine to form a mythic science fiction world in which all roads lead back to The Tower.

I also find the Borderlands comparisons a bit lazy. That game lacks the scale, the MMO elements and the competitive gameplay of this game.

You'd be better off comparing this to Borderlands than Titanfall. Fast, twitch based gameplay is all CoD and Titanfall while this more resembles the feel of Halo with the mechanics of Borderlands.

No need to be mad because people aren't as hyped as you are. I have enjoyed every Halo game released to date, so I have every reason to be excited about what Bungie's next project is. I've seen enough of this game to say my clear impression has been a pure "meh" so far.

Visually it's very nice. Lots of colours and particles flying around

Everything else did absolutely nothing for me though. I got a bit bored watching it and personally I'm just not seeing what a lot of people in here are I guess. Endlessly shooting guys just doesn't do it for me anymore

Music was great on its own but seems a little forced or over the top in some sections of that video

As a big Halo fan the gameplay so far looks underwhelming. The gunplay doesn't seem that fun or satisfying. Too much text on screen. I prefer the Halo method of using visual cues in the animations of enemies to communicate how weak they are rather than health bars over their head.

Hoping competitive MP impresses but from what i've seen in these co-op videos I'm doubtful of that.

That's really it. When you see action footage from RAGE or the new Wolfenstein or even Warframe it kicks you right in the face. Those games have a strong style and presence and flavor.

Destiny seems kindof Haloish. With hoods.

Exactly! Visually it looks great, stylistically it's very... meh.

The character models don't have that iconic look that Halo has, it doesn't have a crazy ass art style like Borderlands, even the shooting looks boring. Guns in Halo or the new Wolfenstein etc. look and sound like they are causing serious damage yet in this they really don't.

I don't know but I really don't see this game being that great. Obviously I'll have to try it first but hype levels are non-existent.

The good ol' hack-this-panel-to-unlock-door-but-I-need-time schtick, while enemies come in waves is ever present here.

You do know this was just a strike mission right? I mean hell it was in the title.

You guys acting like this is the whole game. These strike missions are predetermined. AI was set to baby mode, why even act like this is what we'll see at release.

Game is gorgeous and looks to play like Halo. I'm in, pumped for it.

same I couldn't stop thinking of halo while watching it

But what is up with running? It seems so slow....

Yeah, the visuals looks nice but I'm concerned that the gameplay is just going to be like that in pretty much the entire game... Or maybe because we have over-saturation of FPS games that nothing of this is surprising or exciting to anyone anymore...

A beta is definitely going to be necessary for me to make up my mind.

Yeah yeah, I can echo the comparisons that already have been a million times but what bothers me more than anything is the slow-ish pace. Is there a beta date other than summer yet?

Was that multi-player footage like the footage they showed at the Sony conference?

Where's the single play campaign footage? Please tell me this is not it.

Very nice, looks like co-op will be a blast with friends. I might have to pick up a PS4 until release at this rate.

My only complaint is that the healthbars above the enemies are too big.

Run animations seem off, I dont like the pew pew sounds from those space guns.
But it also seems like something I could play for hours with friends while we shoot the shit and drink.

The lead up to the big firefight seemed pretty flat like there was way too few enemies to fight. They also didn't present much of a challenge as they went down pretty easily. I really expect to not be able to take out enemies that quickly and expect them to make me maneuver more. Overall, it looked like a fun idea with a good enough game but it looks like a weirdly balanced cross gen game with underwhelming visuals. Maybe if the video didn't try to cut through segments of the big fight so much, I would have felt differently about the game balance.

Also, I'm not a fan of that font in the UI.

Junior or not, discounting someone's opinion just solely on the basis of that person's being a Junior Member is stupid.

I don't think you should expect a strictly single player campaign. I'm thinking it'll be more like Titanfall's or, hopefully, more like Syndicate's coop.

Game just doesn't look that fun to me. Not sure I can put my finger on it. Since I'm a huge halo fan I'm gonna give any bungie game a shot but I'm really not feeling this game at this point.
