Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

I can't believe GF decided to skip their usual formula of having a year break. The remake titles usually have a lot of new content and will give us move tutors so I'm pretty hyped.

I'm ok with yearly Pokemon.

New gen -> remake -> third version of new gen

Repeat x forever.

Weather goes haywire because of Kyogre and Groudon. Rayquaza steps in and tries to stop them. Their mega evolutions (the cover art) are too powerful for Rayquaza alone. Ecosystems go nuts all over the world. Zygarde joins the battle with his mega evolution. Rayquaza also gets one. Dragon/ground and dragon/flying do their best to save the world. Oh and a 16-18 year-old kid captures them soon after.

Dunno. But Zygarde could fit into this somehow.

What if they had announced demakes instead?

So are we 100% sure these are remakes and not sequels, like black 2/white 2?

Wouldn't the amount of work required be roughly the same? I mean, you reuse the old script/concept, but you basically have to generate all the assets that aren't reused from X/Y. Might as well make a sequel.

Interesting that GameXplain thinks that they're straight remakes and not Megas or different forms. Are there differences between normal and new cover versions of be legendaries that I'm missing out on?

I'm really hoping it's not a straight remake.

I think this may also explain why Go Ichinose wasn't involved with X/Y. He's got to do his best work some justice for the new generation.

I hope I'm right, I love his music.

The trailer does call it a "new adventure" so I'm a bit suspicious.

There is no Mawile in Sapphire, how can it possible be better?

Sableye. Gems for eyes. Gems! Plus dat Kyogre. When it originally came out I was #TeamRuby. Groudon looked beastly. I was always a red guy. But then I saw the error of my ways. Gonna buy both and give Ruby to my little bro. Can't go wrong either way but dat Sapphire.

If you think about it this could imply that a 3DS successor is coming soon and the 3rd version of X and Y will be the last Pokemon game on the platform releasing the same year as the 3DS successor.

We have no idea, just guesses based off of PR lingo.
And pokemon games never had sequels. :)
Gold and Silver are sequels to Red and Blue/Green.

Ruby

+ Mawile (now a Fairy type + Mega Mawile)
+ Zangoose (David Bowie the Pokemon)
+ Groudon is rad

- ...but Shiftry definitely isn't
- Sun effects just weren't as cool as the rain

Sapphire

+ Ludicolo is THE BEST
+ Kyogre is rad AND it wrecks Groudon AND it had OP Drizzle
+ Rain effects were the coolest shit at the time

- ...but Drizzle got nerfed :(
- Sableye is cool but wasn't ever great, and now it's got Fairy weakness to boot

...well seems like a tie. OH WAIT

Sapphire wins, fatality.

Will wait for the undeniable _________* emerald version ;)

*add something related to alpha and omega here

There was no Yellow or Crystal remake, so there probably won't be an Emerald one.

Andre really knows very little about Pokemon, huh? I think he'd really enjoy the series if he gave it a shot.

Yep!
He should definitely get into it. At least start with gen 5 and on.

Rayquaza and Zygarde DNA digivolve! I mean DNA splicer go!

I am on the opposite boat. I want a straight remake like the previous remakes.

But Mawile, tho :( I honestly don't care about Groudon, Mawile is why I am picking Omega Ruby.

I would love to have the red and blue box casing in NA. It would really stick out on my shelf, but I like it! I remember when the cartridges used to be colored for the GBA games, so awesome.

I really can't imagine how a straight sequel would work without being terrible. I mean half the features XY added wouldn't make sense, like how there wouldn't be clothing stores for customization (unless they replaced every mart with one I guess) and mega stones wouldn't be invented for years or whatever. Plus random stuff like the game corner being cut.

But maybe I'm just overly hopeful.

Do alpha and omega have anything to do with rubies and sapphires or were they just out of ideas?
It fits in with the symbols used by the enemy teams in the game, as well as tying into Groudon and Kyogre's origins in Hebrew myth.

Sapphire had rain and Ruby didn't? I think I've decided which one I'm going to get, thanks!

Was hoping for a Pokemon Z over this (skipped X and Y for that reason), but I will seriously consider this as well.

I love Sableye. I'm also not expecting any new mega evolutions for now, wouldn't that break compatibility? I mean would Game Freak patch X Y for such a thing? I feel like they wouldn't. Pls prove me wrong Game Freak. :(

I'm ok with yearly Pokemon.

That's how it should go yeah. I'm sure some people would dislike the amount of remakes that'd give us but bring it on I say.

I quite like GameXplain when they're analyzing trailers but they tend to have some weird opinions when they're doing their discussing thing. :p

Just heard the news!! HOLY FUCK thank you Based Game Freak.

All these years waiting, wondering, hoping against hope.

But you team up with the pirates in Ruby. So technically, you get to be a pirate by association. Ruby wins.

If I were a Pokemon fan I'd be disappointed. I'd want a new game not a rehash. I felt the same way when Nintendo announced the Wind Waker remake for the Wii U. I even liked a Wind Waker. But the place for remakes is alongside of original releases...not in replace of them.

Wouldn't those things you mentioned make more sense if it *WAS* a sequel that took place AFTER mega evolution stones were discovered? Unless I'm misunderstanding your post and you're agreeing that it should be 'ruby 2/sapphire 2'?

A major advantage of the 3DS is that they can patch it as we've already seen, but I'm willing to think you're right. Maybe I'm cynical, but I can't see them going through that kind of effort. Plus, this would explain why Mega Lati@s exists, you probably get that stone in this game.

Oh my gosh, I meant straight remake. My bad.

Easy explanation: X/Y were set in pokeurope and they didn't get any of those features until years after pokejapan. Realistic AND gets around any issues of needing to skip features!

I'm sorry but you are forgetting that Ruby had Maxie of Team Magma who had the best voice of all in the anime. He also blew up volcanoes and stole rocket fuel.

So in short. Team Magma > Team Aqua.

Mega for Swampert and Sceptile I think should show up, but we'll see. Wouldn't be the first time Game Freak gave a more popular starter an advantage over the others.

In Fire Red they gave charmander metal claw in its level up moveset so it could go through Brock easily. It hasn't been a regular part of its level up moves since.
