Nintendo Fiscal Meeting - Over

It's not the whole future.

QoL is a platform that they intend to act as a safety net for gaming for times like this.

As for NFC, you do realise that Sony and MS consoles have games with it, too, right? Also, it's not all they're doing. You also realise they have done peripherals akin to this before, as seen with R.O.B. etc., right?

Gotta love the hyperbole here.

Sony and Microsoft have third parties.

Jeez, i wonder why no one had thought about that before? Better games, not just ok games. I call Iwata right away to tell him how to save Nintendo. Better games - who would have thought it could be that simple!

If you call him, you should tell him to develop Virtual Boy Remix for the 3DS, its what the audience wants....

Back to topic. Lots of Nintendo News lately looks like the try to build some hype on their own for E3...hope it isnt a hype bubble that bursts at E3 though I guess we will still get Zelda U so it should be a "Ok" E3 for Nintendo

As I said in the other thread. This really is it for me. The future of Nintendo is Health bars and fucking toy memory cards? Count me out.

I am really weighing up whether to trade my WiiU in now while I can still a get £100 credit towards an Xbox one, or to stay the course just so I can play bayonetta.

It really depends now on What Microsoft shows at E3. I love Platinum but honestly, I can always buy Bayo at launch and pick up a dirt cheap WiiU in a year or so. I don't have to play it the moment it releases.

Nintendo fans seem to be happy with the direction Iwata is moving the company but it sounds so wishy washy and aimless to me. Not only that, even if Nintendo was to turn things around , 90% of games on the console would be things I don't like. The third parties aren't coming back. As for Indies, meh. There is more than enough on PSN, live and steam to go round. Sorry curve studios.

I'm done.
I wonder how this is even an acceptable post.

Why is the OP banned. I was hoping to see a rundown of the main points in the OP.

Here's a rundown, thanks toa user called Wii on a forum I go to

- Iwata saying 3DS hit 43 million
- Helping is next Pokemon, Tomodachi Life in June internationally
- 3DS third-party titles to come include Monster Hunter 4G and Youkai Watch 2 in Japan
- Wii U: want to regain momentum with 2 signature titles in Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros.
- System update in June will speed up start up by 20 seconds
- First smart device app will be available by end of fiscal year
- This is called Mario Kart TV and will enable sharing of game movie and rankings available launch
- In June, Japanese users will be able to use SUICA transport cards for payments on Wii U through NFC
- On IP licensing: nothing to announce today, but Nintendo is looking at a joint agreement
- Limited profit, so Nintendo is looking at non-games usage for licensing
- Will launch figurine business called NFP – NFC featured platform
- Nintendo showed Mario figure across many games being used including saves
- NFP game and figures will be shown at E3
- 3DS will also get IR NFP reader so figures can be used across Wii U and 3DS
- Wii U target of 3.6 million units will need more manufactured than in current inventory
- Nintendo not experiencing a loss from hardware anymore
- More Wii U games at E3
- NFP has been in development since last year
- Nintendo would rather make not just make a figurine, but something that does more
- Nintendo hopes to show related games in development at E3 for the NFC tech
- Iwata saying that for this fiscal year (through 3/15), the goal is to increase profits
- 3/16 fiscal year: not grow dramatically
- 3/17 fiscal year: develop pillar for growth with growth
- Iwata: we are preparing for next generation hardware as always, when will it release? Difficult to declare
- Iwata: not hopeless or at a loss in coming up with something new, but until existing users are satisfied, we cannot release next hardware
- Iwata: for Quality of Life, don’t think too narrowly of Nintendo, we can make fun, healthy services… we know how to get people hooked
- Iwata: developers will move into new building in Kyoto around E3; currently teams are separate so will share more
- Iwata: have established Business Development department with outputs like NFP, entering into new markets, use smart phone platforms etc
- Not pessimistic on games, but want other pillars as safety net for games business, more of entertainment company

Oh man :lol

You do realize that there will still be dedicated Nintendo gaming platforms with exclusive software on them right

Depends on what "head to head" means. Contrary to popular belief it´s not exactly rocket science to put a middle class cpu and gpu into a plastic case. They just don´t believe that 3 exactly the same consoles is what the market needs today. They shifted the focus to stay competitive. This doesn´t mean they are not high tech anymore, only if you equal gpu with tech. You might not agree with this, heck i don´t always, but thats how they see themselfs. Thats how they defined their future back in 2001 when they revealed the cube. 13 years ago they said they don´t believe in shrinking market where everyone does the same while the cost for making new games a constantly growing. Higher cost, fewer games, everyone does the same = higher risk. 10 years most of the studios from 2000 were dead. So.. it´s not that difficult to go "head to head", but it´s damn risky in a market where two companies already do the exact same. Better use those gpu dollars and make a motion control, or a fucking screen in your controller. Sometimes it pays of, sometimes it doesn´t. Nintendo will continue on this path of making their own hardware for whatever and write software for it. But don´t expect a simple copy of a device you can get anywhere else. Ever again.

All of this. I'll say it again: Nintendo hates the direction in which big publishers have taken the industry. They hate it so much that they would rather spend their warchest on developing health products, figurines and Suica payments than catering to the needs of a business model that results in 500 million dollar behemoths like Destiny.

They'll pursue the kind of third party support they feel will be sustainable in the long run: indies, and maybe Japanese developers. If some of their future platforms are powerful and dev-friendly enough, they may get PC-lite levels of third party support where certain titles get ported over just because the costs are relatively trivial - but don't expect them to actively pursue the Rockstars and EAs of the world like Sony and Microsoft do.

I wonder how this is even an acceptable post.

Excuse me? Just because I don't love your beloved company as you do my words are unacceptable?

I'm a gamer. I play games. I don't give a shit about toys, health watches or fitness boards. The WiiU is increasingly becoming the lame duck in my collection that I bought simply for one game that nearly a whole year later is nowhere closer to a release date than a nebulous "2014"

The trade-in value of my console is about to pummet and I want to get out before it does. I can play Bayonetta 2 further down the line. So unless Microsoft royally fuck things up in a months time, that's what I'm going to do.

I know what you mean but lol.

Yeah I know. Consoles are technically "toys". But plastic Mario statues are were I draw the line. I'll never judge anyone who is into that stuff, but there is no cotton picking way in hell I'm going to be buying toys or "models" at my age. Its just not me, sorry.

xXxh4rdcor3_snip3sxXx

there are more markets than just people with your opinion

Good. And I'm glad they are being catered for. I'm not, so that's why I'm out and considering approaching someone who can cater for my needs. Simples.

Feel free to take a selfie so I can see the gun held to your head forcing you to buy in to that.

Nah, the simple thing would have been to identify that they aren't for you when you admittedly only play 10% of the released content at best and moved on already.

Simple solution: don't buy the figures.

There are countless more Wii U games, even more coming, which don't use the feature. It's not suddenly becoming the selling point of a console.

Which means nothing to someone that doesn't like most Nintendo developed games anyway.

No offense, but what were you expecting? Why did you buy a system from a platform holder whose first-party titles you don't even enjoy? I mean, I really wanted to play Lost Odyssey a few years ago, but I didn't buy a 360 just for one game because I knew that Microsoft's first-party output did not appeal to me and that it was unlikely to change.

Im sorry to have to break this to you but.. Skylanders is avalible on both Ps4 and Xbone. I.. I am sorry. Guess there is still PC?

Excuse you? Chill fam. What you said was all kinds of wrong thats all. Their just nfc toys and kids seem to love them with several games today. Nobody forcing you to buy those things.

Countless? There are countless more Wii U games coming? Really?

I'll bet we can actually count the decent ones, and we won't even use up all our fingers and toes. That's the problem. Only one publisher is going to push the envelope on Wii U, and it's Nintendo. If Nintendo is wasting its limited resources on dolls, don't you understand that this will limit the amount of games for people that don't want to collect dolls?

Third party games are still plentiful on PS4 and Xbox one. Stop trying to reduce this down to "Your dumping your WiiU because Nintendo is going to start selling toys" that's ridiculous.

Nobody is forcing me to buy into anything. Nintendo however isn't compelling me to hold on to their platform either.

I would have sold it ages ago but up till now, the thought of not being able to play Bayo 2 was enough for me to stick around. Now I've finally lost interest. Its not really that hard to work out.

Then again I see the same stuff we've seen in the past:
We want to make Nfc games, work with 3rd parties and release games.

it is not like NIntendo is a company to appeal the needs of a brider customer group.

I don´t understand the freak out about the NFC announcemnt...

Nor do I, considering they announced it in January

I read the slides and are ok with what they're trying to do, but the main problem I have with them is that they're moving too slowly. At least the issue with the new building is going to be resolved soon. The whole licensing business also comes somewhat late. Hope it works out.

Dude stop trying to muddly the waters.

Skylanders isnt a core part of the PlayStation or Xbox business.

You're assuming that the figures are a core part of Nintendo's business when they seemingly have one NFC to announce and potentially games like Smash will let you use them to transfer data between the two versions. Given the issues you seem to have with Nintendo I don't see why this meeting of all things was the breaking point for you.

And that's because they have other core businesses. Corporations are allowed to have more than one business venture, as clearly demonstrated, without one necessarily poisoning the well of the other. And nothing presented contradicts that notion.

Look at Sony how long a turn around for the whole company will take (and they will need more Years)

Such process need some Years to evolve.

Finally! I've been wondering about what the hell the NFC reader on the gamepad was supposed to be used for for quite some time.

This concept with fitting game (aka pokelander) should've been ready at Wii U launch, but whaddyagonnado

After Iwata leaves Nintendo he can start used cars selling bussiness.

He is so amazing at making empty vague promises that can be interpreted as next big thing by investors.

ThoughtsOfSpeaking, I don't get it. Is your only next gen console a Wii U? Was Bayonetta 2 the only reason you bought it? Because it doesn't seem like you want to play Nintendo standard games.

If Bayonetta 2 was the only reason you bought it then fear not, Bayonetta 2 is coming within the next 7 months. Don't be so upset about anything else that is or isn't happening with the Wii U because for you it's only about Bayonetta 2. Right?

So the NFC Games will be a core Part for Nintendo?

Seems i miss the line in the report where they mentioned that.

Look. I'm done arguing about it. Its derailing the thread. The WiiU is going. Don't agree its a wise decision? That's your business. I've had this thing since July and all I have is one game I already own on 360 and another game from my fave developer that for life of me I can't get into.

One game on the horizon isn't enough for me any more and that's why have been checking out Nintendo news regularly recently. The Mario kart announcement was a good thing and I was finally starting to feel like my console was going to get some use but now I back to feeling I've just wasted my money. My concept of value is different from yours and Nintendo is just not giving me enough value for me to continue to own their console. That's it. I've learnt the lesson that no matter the game you can't buy a console for one title.

I've said my piece.

Good god, I hope that this doesn't replace just connecting your 3DS/Wii U directly through the wireless features to update things like that.

Mario Kart is probably too close to make use of the NFP reader thing at launch, but having your Mario or whoever figure importable into Mario Kart & Smash Brothers wearing custom clothes and with earned stats is a neat idea. Your figure becomes a portable memory card that you can take to friends houses to race or import into other games that support it such as Mario Party.

No I own a PS4.

Its the "Within 7 months" that's the problem. I'm done waiting. I can get an Xbox one and be playing KI, Dead rising, Titanfall etc Today.

I've had enough of please understand. Bayonetta can now wait till I've got a bit of spare cash next year. I've been waiting long enough, another year won't hurt. I'll pick up another WiiU when the price for a Second hand one plummets, which it is all but guaranteed to do given the sparce line up for 2015.

I feel if I don't trade in my WiiU now, I'm going to lose out in trading in value. It becomes a less appealing system by the day. I'm going to wait till E3 but unless a miracle happens come June I'm going to be owning an xbone and my second console, not a WiiU.

The more I think about it. The more I think a skylanders rip off using Nintendo's IP is a great idea. If the gaming part is as good as skylanders then my kids will love it.
I hope you can somehow use the 3DS and the WiiU in the same game at the some time. Maybe synced over wifi.

i understand your anger, but my value is that i like the most NIntendo IP´s and Games. So i will receive till the Death of the WiiU my 10-15 Games + (and some indies) , that is enough value for me and i´m fine with that.

To me it sounds like you bought the Console only for MK8 and one Exklusive. We know long ago that there would be no big 3rd Support for this Console (before July 2013).

My expatations for a Nintendo System is different from a Sony System where i expect to receive moar Games.

Well, if there's one thing people can't say Nintendo is bad at, it's crafting games, so we should be confident about the gameplay of those games :)

We will all cry rivers of tears if you trade in your console ToS.

But let's move on and discuss this NFC - NFP thing

I know! My two sons will go mental if this is done right. Honestly I thought this was a big part of what the Wii U would be about from launch, given the NFC reader on the gamepad. Wonder what has taken them so long.
