LTTP: Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen

Let me just first say HOLY SHIT THIS GAME IS AMAZING!
I feel so bad i didn't give this game a try when it was out i have it from PS+ IGC and only now started playing it because i saw several Bound by Flame streams on PS4 and i felt some RPG itch so i download it and started playing.

I was never a big RPG fan i never played any of the FF games and i am PlayStation fan since the PSX days, i played Fallout 3 and Kingdom of Amular: R i have Fallout: New Vegas but never got around to play it.

Anyway about Dragon's Dogma DA i can safely say i am now in love with RPGs like DD i really now understood why people love RPGs so much, i still can't wrap my head around how good this game is i mean the mechanics the content the visuals the gameplay the story and am just like 20 hours in.
Climbing those Golems and weakening them by hitting their vital points then watching them fall while you stand atop their heads is just glorious i was like "wow this fucking game!"
And there is the Pawns feature i mean holy shit what an amazing feature it makes a lot of difference and they are not like those stupid A.I. doing nothing they actually help! hell they kill monsters while am tripping all over the place trying to survive because i got my self a boss i can't handle at my current level! but those motherfucker keeps bringing them to their knees so i can finish them off! I don't think i can love any other RPG after this the pawn system is a must for me now.

As you can see am really enjoying this game i am at level 33 and i just killed the Griffin (boy that was one hell of a battle) so i want some advice regarding the "Combine" i really feel lost i mean there is a lot of stuff i can create but i can't carry them all i don't know what to prioritize so i ended up dumping everything at the storage and only take with me mature and potent Greenwarish and some stamina potion that i always forget to use >.< other than that i don't know what do with all the stuff i have.
Also what advantages i can take of the Black Cats business? i know they copy stuff but why i want to do that? the description says the item lose its power so its not that i can reforge healing potion which is also cost money? so what am i missing with this?

If anyone have more tips please let me know am still fresh at RPGs

I just can't wait for the next Dragon's Dogma i mean looking at how much they squeezed out of PS3 makes me wonder what they can do with the PS4, am going to buy the shit out of that game i feel want to support them after giving us this one for free through PS+.

So anyone reading this that have slight interest on RPGs go play this now! heck even if you don't like RPGs just try it you won't regret it.

I keep considering getting back into Dark Arisen and gearing out my pawn.
I beat BBI twice and just kinda let it go at that point. Definitely more uncursing to be done!

Glad you're enjoying it and I'll definitely second the game being great fun. I highly recommend it to anyone who is into action RPGs and doesn't mind the pawns repeating themselves ad nauseam.

Back when I gave the game a chance (I actually bought it, no PS+) I wasn't enjoying, game has a lot of issues but what killed it for me was the fucking encounters re-spawning. I don't want to fight the same guys every time I need to walk through a fucking hill. The lack of actual characters, instead of "pawns", is also baffling, and makes the story basically nonexistent, at least for me.

Agreed OP, the pawn system is fantastic, biggest surprise of last gen for me, spent tons of hours on both versions. Surprisingly I've seen people say they'd rather scrap pawns for full co-op but I'd disagree.

There are occasionally quest items that can be used in multiple quests (and one that can be used multiple times to complete one quest for twice the experience/gold), and making forgeries of the items will allow you to use them in all of the quests.

Also, it's very useful for the gold/silver/bronze idols. Shopkeepers will eventually ask you to keep an eye out for the idols, and if you give the idols to a shopkeeper, they'll get better inventory. However, the idols themselves are very useful for you as a player. The bronze, silver, and gold idols lower shop prices by 10%, 20%, and 30% respectively while they're in your inventory. If you make a forgery of the idols, you can still get those discounts while giving the real idols to the merchants for their expanded inventories (don't give the idol forgeries to the merchants).

It's a real shame they dont port this to PC. I have a 360 copy but still.
This. I wanted a PC port of DD even more than I wanted one of RDR, which is saying a lot.

Dragon's Dogma, for me, is tied with Dark Souls as my #1 game of last gen, heck it may even be slightly above DkS.

I still need to jump back into Bitterblack and max out my characters...

My dream fantasy game is basically this with a Neverwinter Nights style scenario creator

My biggest surprise of last gen! Loved it to bits.

Dark Arisen's new content is by far the best content in the game as far as I'm concerned, really had a lot of fun playing through BBI a bunch of times.

Ah i see, good thing i still have that Gold idol on my storage gotta copy it before delivering that quest then, hmm that actually make sense i need to visit the wiki and read more about those forgeries thanks for the explanation Kyledk

So this game, does it include the original Dogma, or is this just stand alone new missions without the main game? And what exactly does it expand upon from the original?

I ask because I thought of buying this for a friend, but considered just buying the original.

Probably the biggest surprise of last gen. I bough it on a whim, and proceeded to play the damn game for months on end. It scratched an itch I never knew I had, and did it so well I didn't want to stop. As if the main campaign wasn't good enough, BBI was a very nice change of pace and atmosphere.

All the vocations are very distinct, and this is one of the few action games where playing as a sorceror is amazing. Toss in the fact that status effects are actually useful in this game. Even Dark Arisen's final boss is susceptible to them!

DD also some of the best archer gameplay in gaming, Strider, Ranger, Mystic Archer. Doesn't matter. All come with their own unique flavor of arrow slinging.

Honestly, I'd have to say that this is my favorite game from last gen.

The Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen wiki gives a pretty good breakdown about what DA brings to the table. Generally it adds gameplay fixes (now traversal is MUCH easier), a new dungeon, more skills, augments, equipment, etc...

It's very upsetting to me that the sales were so lackluster. This is the kind of stuff that we need to make sales and get attention.

I tried it a few times, but the performance was really truly awful, this and FC3 were the only two last gen that I had to put down.

I would really love to see a next-gen port.

I bought this game based on a few gifs I saw in the OT of the Magic Archer. It turned out to be the best game I played on my 360. There needs to be a sequel.

God's had his chance.
Welcome to the sleeper amazeballs RPG of last gen. There is nothing better than going from terrified of the night - huddling in small lit corner defending yourself from Skeleton Warriors and a Chimera just reviving your pawns so they can heal you and managing you last few healing items and oh god i think i'm gonna die PLEEEEAAAAASE sun come up I beg of you!!!

To ditching your pawns and strolling out into the midnight air confident as fuck because it's 180 levels later and now YOU are monster in the dark.

The first time that I came back to the main world after running through BBI 10+ times and finding a boatload of gear I was jogging up to the female bandit camp to nab myself some clothes for my pawn and ran into a normal ol Chimera. Bout 5 seconds later he was dead and I was laughing hysterically - drunk with power.

The world NEEDS a DD2 ... Capcom needs to seize the godamn moment and turn this shit into a franchise for the ages. With a lil bit more online play (Co-op with just your main pawn + 1 friend and their pawn would be so. Much. Fun.) and a larger world/enemy list and a dash of randomization they will have a GOTG on their hands.

I love it. psn = silkysm00th Add me sometime and you'll get my pawn as an option for ZERO rift crystals baby!! Can't remember what she is set as online at the moment (possibly a Fighter/Ranger) but she's ridiculously and fairly geared out if I remember correctly. Enjoy it the game and don't bother fighting Death until you purify some lvl 3 BBI gear ;)

I tried it finally recently as well, OP . I think it's fantastic. Really solidly designed. It's probably the best AAA game Capcom made last generation and it does beg for a PC port. I'm holding out hope for a sequel.

Speaking about the Bitterblack Island at first i didn't know this was the expansion so i went there at the very beginning of the game i got a royal ass whipping there lol there was a fucking grim reaper with a scythe hovering on the sky when i stepped inside the first room i was like "nope this is too soon for me" lol so i left and later knew it was the expansion i decided to visit it again when i finish the main the game

I started this last week, but quit after the first or second major boss. The black bars and iffy framerate (PS3) were ruining the experience. I may go back to in time, but even then, the gameplay wasn't all that compelling.

Yeah I like it alot. Never got too deep into the pawn system unfortunately.

Don't mean to port beg..but MAAAAN, a pc version would be cool.

I need another DLC pack that's harder than BBI, Death is now a pushover to me and the 2 Gorecyclops only provide a moderate challenge.

Those blue glowing knights are actually the most annoying to fight, when they can only be damaged by magic my pawns suddenly turn into idiots.(I'm a ranger)

3 glowing knights and 2 wyverns throwing magic at me can get hectic.

Finished it in a week or so, got it from a friend's shared PS+ account.

Fantastic game. Incredible combat system. There were a lot of clunky things mainly related to UI and actual quest structure, but as a straight adventure-RPG it's second to none.

The vocation and pawn system are also fantastic, as were the fights with bigger creatures. Changing vocation basically gives you an entirely new game to play.

You just described my exact feeling about this game and am going to add you my friend seeing how pawns are saving my ass i want even better ones, thanks for the offer :)

Wow, you guys are mean. All he wanted to do was say hello.

Darkologia, if you're on PSN and want to recruit my pawn just add my PSN: JackalMoonshine. IIRC, she's a Strider or Ranger with the full Shadow Set. I was training her to spam Brain Splitter, Cloudburst Volley, and something else.
haha that fucker scared the shit out of me

it's really a fabulous game... I am hoping we get a new entry on PS4/XBO and yes, PC (please!). The combat is SO satisfying... just thinking about this game makes me want to go play through the few quests I never finished... so good.

It was really too good to be a one-off... I like to think that they only released "Dark Arisen" to help fund the sequel or gauge interest in one.

It's one of those games that once I finished the story I was just so very sad... because it feels like they could easily do more stories or content in the area they created, even if it is a little on the small side. I needed MORE. And I still want MORE, Capcom... please deliver.

I was actually considering picking this game up at some point, and this thread reminded me of that.

So I figured what the hell, and just bought the PS3 version through Amazon. Should be a fun time.

One of the best games last gen for sure, probably my fave adventure game to date.

Fantastic combat and class systems with an excellent world. The animation and effects in this game are nuts.

I would really love to see a next-gen port.

It's very upsetting to me that the sales were so lackluster. This is the kind of stuff that we need to make sales and get attention.

I've made multiple posts about this before so I'll try to stop myself from being long winded, but DD has so much potential with much of it being unlocked with very simply solutions that it will be incredibly frustrating for me if we never see a full fledged sequel on next gen consoles. The performance problems are instantly fixed by releasing a quality PC port, and a sequel can solve those problems by using the far superior next gen hardware available now to hopefully attain 1080p +30fps locked or better. For a game with animations and action as great as DD though, I'd love for them to compromise on visuals and go for a locked 60fps to accentuate the incredibly frenetic and athletic feeling combat.

Things like framerate, black bars, resolution, vsync, muddy textures can be so easily solved on the PS4/Xbone/PC that the fact we might not even see remastered versions for those platforms is painful to watch. The biggest issues with DD were almost all technical, which aren't difficult or awkward to fix imo. You tame expectations on high end visual techniques and go for higher FPS and resolution, which for me would be ideal for the series. The other issue would be fleshing out the world with more interesting cities and characters to round out the universe that has been created. In general though, it played so well purely from a combat perspective that I was a bit surprised it didn't get to 3-4 million sold worldwide. It was fast, fun, satisfying and over the top combat with an open world and loot to acquire, yet it just didn't coalesce together to being a bigger seller. It's really sad that even though it was a huge success as a game, it wasn't a success to Capcom as an investment.

With Capcom being what it is now, I'm a bit cynical on our chances for a fully funded next gen/PC sequel that doesn't try too hard to get away from its roots since Capcom will look at sales and say "we need to do something really different or else it will be a moderate success all over again." Part of me wishes I hadn't fallen head over heels for a game that might be in that awkward zone of perhaps being worthwhile for Capcom to make a sequel for, and not being quite popular enough to warrant the investment. If I remember correctly it sold OK for a mid tier title, but supposedly its budget was much greater than that, which would be offputting for Capcom's bean counters.

You're in for a fun time, man. Like Hoo-doo said, changing vocations makes it feel like you're playing a different game. Don't be afraid to change things up if one job isn't doing it for you.

LoL yah BitterBlack is a nasty bitch until you get to at least level 60+ not to mention the fact that after you run through it once it changes up the location and monster types through out the whole dungeon and becomes a whole fuckton harder in some specific rooms. "Oh so the first time through was only kinda tough on you with 1 normal dragon? This time it's 3 dragons of 3 different elemental types that are all backing each other up. Enjoy!"

sogud!! And enjoy the pawn! She's been through a lot (including a sex change!!) and knows how to fuck shit up. Keep in mind tho that she is level 200 so certain fights will go from exciting and tense to almost boring with her around and your experience gain will reflect the fact that you have a monster 150 levels above you in your party!

There is only one true vocation and it is Assassin. Every thing else is just grinding for augments ;)

I bought it on sale a couple of months ago for 360 and loved it. It's my GOTY this year having not played any of the big games that have come out so far. Didn't play the DLC yet and I'm on my second run. Magick Archer destroys everything and anything in this game as it's usually my go-to class to destroy cockatrices and griffins.

As for the ending, it was pretty bittersweet. Definitely one of the best post-game content in a game. I loved the sense of the exploration. It's probably my favorite Capcom game last gen hands down.

This is great, you will love it. I can't see how a fan of fantasy action rpgs couldn't.

I hope a lot more people follow your example now that the game is priced well within bargain territory.

To everyone reading this... please buy new! We have to give every incentive we can to Capcom who probably never stop tracking sales.

This game is damn amazing. I actually put it above the Souls games...all of them. And that's saying a heck of a lot. The combat system is super addictive and class changes basically give you a whole new game to play. And that before you start doing solo playthroughs (which are also possible).

Anyone who hasn't played this, give it a go.

http://www.siliconera.com/2011/09/0...-and-the-role-of-the-breath-of-fire-designer/

Based on those and other interviews, Dragon's Dogma actually had a hefty budget. It was ballsy, tons of tech was apparently created from scratch to make the unique stuff in this game happen. I'll admit to not being interested in the slightest from previews/screenshots before it came out. But the demo hooked me. Lots of things could be improved, but what it does well it does so amazingly well (subtlety strong story, great localization, combat, etc).

Here's hoping it wasn't a write off and they are building up a next gen version.

DD seems like a game that I would enjoy immensely. The combat and artistic design seem to be it's greatest perks. The fact that it has a panavision-like aspect ratio doesn't faze me, but the poor framerate is not something I would look forward too. Since I lack a console, and have no interest in getting one, a PC port would be ideal.
