Singstar coming to PS4

Has singstar weaned in popularity in Europe? How has the f2p Singstar done?

edit: Why not also make the app work on Vita..................................... :(

We’re really pleased to announce that SingStar will be coming to PS4 later this year! Not only that but we will be launching a free SingStar app that will transform your smartphone into a microphone. That’s right, no more mics required!

The app works with both PS3 and PS4 versions of SingStar and is compatible with most iOS and Android smartphones and devices. The app will also let you create your own personal playlists.

Okay, this is actually a cool idea and the kind of evolution the series needs.

However, I really hope Sony London has at least one core game in development. Their interesting experiments were pretty unsuccessful last generation, so I'd like to see them backing a more successful horse this time around.

If this is a forced app on my OS I will sell my PS4 and quit my job and divorce my wife and go to Tibet and let myself be eaten by condors

Edit : Ah, good to hear. Plane tickets cancelled.

Yes, yes it is.

Try the new delicious Xperia Z1

The Z1 has the mic on the top of the phone? !

Hey Sony, I'd still like all my songs back. Thanks to your separate Singstar Store they were all locked away when I had to replace my PS3.

singstar has the worst DRM management ever. If they arent going to change gameplay at all (which is sounds like they aren't, ugh) they need to allow purchases to carry over to the PS4.

If that doesn't happen, singstar is dead to me

don't worry, bro.

If you have already bought the track on PS3, and the song is available on PS4 then you won’t have to pay again. :)

As for the game, it comes in two flavours. One is the disc version - the first new SingStar disc since 2011's 'SingStar: Back To The 80s' - which costs £24.99 and includes 30 songs (expect detail on the new track list at E3 next month). The second is the download version, which is essentially a demo. This is free (you don't need a PlayStation Plus subscription) and includes 10 songs each a minute long.

As is the case now, you can buy songs individually at £1.15 a pop. And the songs are cross-buy, where available. So if you buy a song on PS3 you automatically get it on PS4 - if it's available for that console. Sony is working on licensing as many of the tracks already available on PS3, so hopefully those with a huge catalogue of already purchased songs will be able to carry them over to PS4.

This is a genius idea. Singstar is a fun party game and, this way, there's no need to buy extra stuff since everyone has a smartphone these days.

A buzz game with the same concept would also be amazing.

FINALLY! An important game to my library. :)

And more reason to leave the PS3, though Persona 5, Home and Tekken keeps it in the living room.

I really hope they'll let us turn off the vocals completely, but I doubt it. It kills the karaoke aspect.

Smartphone mics is a fantastic idea. Could see Singstar really taking off again if this feature catches on

Wow I just noticed the Singstar thing is still at the top of my game list, dear lord did I shut that icon out mentally.

And now back to being annoyingly visible yaaaay~

not sure if i want to jump in unless i know their DRM is fixed. rather have it PSN account bound. i haven't touched it when i had to replace my old ps3 and CS didn't help one bit.

Never played and probably won't get this, but putting the mic on smartphones is a brilliant move.

I'm so sick of extra accessories, dongles, and attachments.
Came to post exactly this. Might actually give it a try at some point if I can just use my phone. The more devs can do stuff like this the better. I have hopes that the dedicated PS app will allow more such integration where it makes sense - not forced. (Though it sounds like this is a separate app altogether.)

I'm going to ask HQ if we will have to rebuy our ps3 singstar songs or not.

Please do. Singstar is a load of fun but I've spent quite a bit already and it would suck if I had to rebuy.

Perhaps even a way of deactivating the game on the PS3 and reactivating on PS4.

SingStar will still be available digitally and not just act as a demo (as Eurogamer says), correct?

I can imagine it having 10 1-minute tracks on there as a start, but me being able to import the songs I already own and buy new ones. Instead of having to buy the disc version.

Great about cross buy tracks, but it'd be nice of them to implement a system transfer on ps3 as well. I'm dreading the day my old 60gb fatty dies, I have 500 or so tracks.
