Hyrule Warriors : official website opens, new screenshots/artworks

I wish the environments didn't still look like ass because of the ground being a single flat texture. Other than that, the art direction is pretty nice. It doesn't really feel like something I would normally want Nintendo to do visually, but it's a nice change of pace.

There's been dozens of Musou games with even more provacative women in them, but it's the Nintendo one that people bitch about.

Also, I crave more cross overs and collaborations like this from Nintendo.
Get Blizzard to make a Metroid RTS!

I can't think of any licensed Musou games that do that, aside from Fist of the North Star, and it's widely agreed that is terrible.

Most just go "Here's the next mission, bring whichever character you like, but these ones are recommended."

Hokuto Musou 1 still does that, with the playing of the same story from multiple POVs if you're doing the What-If mode. Main story mode follows the original, of course.

Not sure where you're going off on it being "terrible," though.

But seriously, I bet that games like Zelda Musou, SMT x FE and Pokkén are likely only the beginning of this. And I, too, welcome my new collaboration overlords.

I knew Boob Lady would cause an uproar.

Why we can't have nice things.

People like Ben Kuchera will complain until NOA censors her. Honestly, I half expect Bayonetta to be wearing a Victorian style dress (complete with bustle) by the time the game is released in America! ;-)

I bet this is the last we hear from Ben Kuchera on this. But people who continue to rally against her will certainly do that, and then when she gets changed, those same people are the ones that will crusade against censorship.

Probably already beaten by a landmile, but here's my take on it.

EDIT: Reup, overlooked some stuff at the edges which should now be clean.

They should definitely consider a female link in the near future. Hell, they got a perfect rough draft for a female link's face right there. shop a woman's body with that face of his and you would see a tough woman.

I don't really mind the Bishounen "Link so Fem and Kawaii" look but I feel like it's a missed opportunity the more I see it.

Or hell. Just give Zelda a sword and shield and some kick ass armor and make her the protagonist of a game!

I am constantly delighted by the strong female characters Nintendo has to offer, and holy shitballs, Impa looks AMAZING. And we get to PLAY HER? AHMAHGAD.

This game. Looks AWESOME.

Character designs being one thing... but those environments are hideous. It's probably due in part to the environments needing to be huge (Warriors games tend to have large scale spaces) but yikes at all of those muddy repeating textures.

Interested to see if this game turns out to be better than the average Warriors game. I'm a bit burned out on the Warriors franchise(s) at this point.

That's why I mentioned implementing the Xenoblade style grass popups, even in 2D.

Xenoblade also had huuuge maps, and was on a weaker system. And I didn't even notice the grass was 2D until I purposefully checked.

I actually love the character design on Shia, generally speaking, but the boobs are a bit much.

Dat mask, tho. Gorgeous!

EDIT:

I would like this too.

though seriously

that has got to be the most feminine face on Link I've seen. screams female link...
and shades of Samus

That it does. That it does..

I read on ZU that Aonuma was "surprised" at the amount of playable characters they put in the game. GET HYPE!

This is a possibility, and that brings me great. Joy.

Yeah, I'll reiterate that it is awful that they took a series that would be perfect for Musou and managed to make a weirdly un-musou like game with it.

I can't understand this statement with regards to Hokuto Musou.

It's like the quintessential musou game because you're a one-man army that can power your way through waves of grunts while smearing them across the setting like paint. Every character could do this. Each one had the potential to be a fluid, destructive engine and be entirely untouchable.

I've never seen Link being overly femine looking in the past, always kind of confused what other people were seeing, but I agree, it really does look like Samus dressed up as Link.

Color me interested.

Diggin' "boob-lady's" design, but her name, I feel, doesn't really seem to fit in the Zelda universe. Shy-ya, like Shia Labeouf right? In contrast to Zelda, Link, and Impa, it looks out of place.

That really didn't seem to be the case when I played it. Even on easy, it took a weird amount of effort (that is to say, any) for Ken to put down even the most basic enemy grunts at the start and only started to speed up when you leveled (which itself was weirdly slow compared to other Musou games), which also visibly results in them throwing a lot less guys at you than most other musou games will at any given point in time. Plus, the focus on platforming and moving through smaller and less open levels slows down the game even more than it already was.

Hokuto Musou as a whole is just weirdly slow for something that would have perfectly slotted into the normal fast pace of Musou, where the game has no problem with you just mowing down enemies out of the gate if you aren't playing on hard. It feels like they went back to a more traditional arcade brawler, and it doesn't really work out as the niche that Musou evolved into.

How much more would you grumble if you knew I already have a second set ready to go and actually stopped like 15minutes ago? :p

I think it's supposed to be pronounced She-ah.

It's not just the maps being huge, though. It's the maps being large and ALSO having to render multitudes of peons to mash, which is the Musou trademark.

More than likely, in normal gameplay, you won't even care about the ground textures, because you'll be more focused on working your way through large crowds of enemies.

It's absurdly expensive, but I went ahead and pre-ordered the Treasure Box edition from Play-Asia.
Gotta have that Triforce clock & Treasure box! haha

I doubt we'll get anywhere near that nice of a special edition in the US, but I guess we'll find out at E3. :)

The enemies already pop-in in Dynasty Warriors.
The grass also pops in Xenoblade.

So I'd be cool with grass popping in Hyrule Warriors.

And yeah, I won't care when actually playing. It would just make look it better. Like if Xenoblade didn't have the grass, I wouldn't care when playing, but having the grass is like an extra plus.

Boobs or grass. You can't have both!

Yes pretty please! I would! Your work is awesome.

ok, I'll do some of them right away. Expect the first in 10-15 minutes or so :D

Meanwhile enjoy this little hack image: What Sheik's attack instantly reminded me of

That's One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2. Pretty funny it was the first image that popped up when I searched for that attack of Zoro XD
