2015 release is kind of a downer, was hoping for a surprise fighting game on current gen for the fall/winter season...
Anyway, very much looking forward to it (and the teased reveal tomorrow).

Well, chances of it still being their old ass Unreal Engine 3 is higher and that's not a good thing.

UE3 can still produce very next gen looking games

Arkham knight uses UE3

and Samaritan was done on UE3 as well

UE3 is scalable, they did a vita version of the last MK. So hopefully MK10 will look like MK9 on last gen and well have the graphical advances on current gen that we know UE3 has.

I think MK10 will look surprisingly next gen ( saying current gen in this context sounds odd) on X1/PS4, the visuals will be better then killer instinct.

A friend of mine who works at Gamestop posted this.

Not when your game gets hold back by almost 10 year old hardware. Arkham Knight wouldn't look that good if it was on last gen too.

Fighting game scene way too strong on 360/PS3 to just drop off the dime of a hat. You ain't getting new gen exclusive games all around til about 2016.

I expected an april release as that is when they released both, the previous Mortal Kombat and Injustice.

Couldn't they just make the current gen version first then downgrade the last gen version, like they did with the vita version.

isnt advanced warfare coming to both last and current gen, and it looks pretty current gen.

Samaritan is a tech demo and Arkham Knight is current gen only.

That being said, fighting games are like sports games in the sense that they're going to hang on to last gen userbases as long as possible. We aren't getting a real next gen exclusive fighter to late 2016 I bet. I'm guessing it will be DOA or the next Tekken.

Consider me hyped.

If they manage to make it as big as MK9 was and maybe even a bit bigger, that's a day 1 $60 purchase.

so KI will be the only next gen fighting game this year again.

Current gen surely.

In all honesty, I don't see anything particularly "next gen" about KI, it could have been done on the 360 with equal aplomb. I would be very interested in seeing a fighter that genuinely does something very different and utilises more recent hardware.

Don't see what the big deal is. It's not like fighting games in general tax any system hardware. These games will basically be 720p vs 1080p.

Yeah, generally I think cross gen is much less of a big deal for a fighting game than it would be for some other genre.

Yeah this.

Because I am curious how the Wii U would be classified based on your description of the term.

It was released in the 8th gen, it's part of the same gen as PS4/Xbone, but it doesn't matter to these conversations if it is called current or next gen because it isn't even getting any multiplatform games.

Retailers are being retailers, that's like having an E3 announcement saying something is going to be released that day. There has to be some technical guy, artist, or department head on top their game getting it ready for customers.

It's the price to pay for those long life cycles. There's still too many last gen console owners out there with either a 360 or PS3 to just ignore.

Except the last gen versions of cross gen games don't sell very well and the continued support is just going to keep those people from buying a PS4 or Xbone longer.

I hope that cross-gen doesn't mean that the current gen versions won't have awesome visuals. Regardless I hope the game is a less janky than MK 9.

The PS4/Xbone version will probably look exactly like the last gen version but at a higher resolution and with better textures.

I'm not too worried about the graphics. The way I see things, you can only take the same engine so far. MK vs. DC, MK9, and Injustice all use UE3. And while the way things are animated and rendered improved with each release, how it's done is very similar...it's hard for me to describe...like you'd be "stuck" with a certain way of doing things...like, how much better can the animations really get if they're still polishing and building on what was done in 2008 with MK vs. DC?

I guess the big difference is if NRS are doing the current gen or last gen versions of the game.

If they are doing the current gen then it shouldn't really matter much. They can go all out and scale it down for the last gen versions. The PSvita version of MK9 looks like a PS1 game.

If they are doing last gen and HVS uports it like Injustice, then ya, good time to bitch.

Also, I don't believe that a PC version exists.

Cross gen Games goes both ways.

Yes we have had up ports from last gen development but at some point last gen will start getting ports of games made for this gen. So i do not think you guys should write of any games until you see them.

But then again I do think a lot of the louder posters have way too high of expectations for next gen consoles.

The animations are like that not because of any engine limitations, they just like mocaping and animating them like that.

There is a huge difference in animation quality from MKvsDC > MK9 > Injustice. Like almost night and day. And Injustice still has a lot of room for improvement.
