Not better, exactly, but just doing art styles in HD that others rarely ever do. If Metroid in HD exceeds everyone's expectations in the same way MK8 did though, then you could probably say this more concretely.

My favorite subtle effect in the game is seeing all the drift marks on the track accumulate over time as people skid throughout the race. I don't think any of the gifs show this though.

It's especially cool because the drift marks match the color of the sparks that made them. So they serve as a good tool for showing where every one is orange-sparking.
