That level gets hype as fuck sometimes. It's like the only level with no antigrav sections I really enjoy going through just because of how batshit it can get. That part with the giant music notes hopping in rhythm + at least 3 other people in close quarters = bestest Mario Kart right there.

I picked this up since 2 games for the price of one was hard to resist

The last MK game I played was the DS one and I've got no idea what's going on with these parachutes and shit. Snaking is gone too although I expected that. Mechanically, what should I know now?

The first thing that sticks out to me is that drifting feels weird.

Unless there really is an instant recovery trick there's a couple of networking issues where basically you hit someone, the shell is wasted but it did nothing by either traveling straight through them or hitting them, hit animation starts and they still just keep driving like nothing happen. Happens regularly with a certain people including other things in the most extreme such as them appearing to fall off the track, so it's a nuisance knowing how close people actually are for collisions or getting the boost behind them.

Well I managed to destroy my copy of the game already. Flung it across the room like a frisbee in a gesture of mostly symbolic rage after some 150cc bullshit. Somehow it nicked the edge of something and left a notch on the very of edge of the disc and now my Wii U won't read it. :-/

I thought Blu-Rays were supposed to be nearly indestructible.
guess I'm trading some stuff in for a new copy tomorrow, and calming way down next time or just not going for 3 stars on everything

Yeah, some of the lag stuff I've seen has been:

-People getting hit while maintaining full speed(on their end they weren't hit). Super weird in how they do drop coins anyway.

-The same as the above but for stage hazards, like seeing someone boost by right into one of the Toad's Turnpike trucks without slowing down

-Items hitting two people, like a banana.

-Dudes ramming right into your back when you're dragging an item without getting hit

It's not super common but is really frustrating when it happens, especially when you blow your item for it.

silly question: is there a way to differentiate the red and green shells if you're colour-blind like i am? do they spin differently? is the image differently?

Ummm, okay. I swear almost constantly with frustration while playing almost any videogame online (and yes, I do know it's really because I'm not very good and nothing to do with the game hating me specifically. Although...) but I can't say I've ever flung a disc across the room. That seems... ill-advised. Did you not have time to think it through while waiting for the disc to eject, or did you just tear your Wii U apart in a fit of Hulk rage?

I can see him turning the game off, going into the Wii U menu, putting his gamepad down, standing up, going to the Wii U, pressing the eject button, waiting, tossing it around the room... just writing that seems like the most wrong thing ever. I once threw my PS3-controller against a wall and cracked it (it still works) and I have NEVER done that again...

The green shells have their holes on the left side, the red shells have them on the right side, if that helps you.

That's exactly what I did, except I didn't turn the game off. I honestly didn't think there would be any damage from a toss. It was a controlled but miscalculated gesture of rage. It sucks (like I do at MK8), but on the bright side, at least there's a really good deal for it right now so I can recoup my losses somewhat. I'm trying to be positive now.

So how long did it actually took you to do what you did? A minute? And you havent thought in that minute at all? Cause, yes this game can be very rage inducing but you must be out of your mind to do that. Maybe some anger management classes would help.

Nonetheless the game is a blast and I think its a good sign that it is sold out in germany at amazon (as are the U Pro controller and the high capacity battery pack) and it sold 1.2 millions worldwide within days

Why is it called 'Fire Hopping'? If anything it's 'Boost Hopping'.

Also Ansatz gets quoted in that article - you're famous! Although you're getting murdered in the Kotaku comments section.

getting hit by a green shell from behind whilst you have a banana in defence is complete and utter bullshit and makes the game less fun when it happens so early in a race meaning it's over.
