Damn isn't she cute?

Has anyone noticed the feminine eyelashes on the eyes? I'm thinking more and more now that Link is female this time around!

Shopped? Oh, I'm late haha

To all the people who think it's a lady link/Zelda, why would Nintendo not mention it or acknowledge it at all? If they weren't going to say it but instead show it they would make it more obvious. It's not like they kept the character in the cloak to make you guess who the character was, the cloak came off, Link jumped up with his bow and it's Link, just before the tunic (think PJs WW link or farm boy TP Link).

They just revealed it, and they barely said anything about what's going on. They didn't tell us anything when they revealed that Skyward Sword painting.

They've told us the game will be a big change from previous ones, how it'll be open world and how we will tackle obstacles in a different way. Changing the lead character from male to female is just as big a change, you'd think they would make it more clear than an androgynous looking teen boy Link, just like he's been in every other Zelda game.

Probably beaten but I don't care[/QUOTE]

Ah, I was enjoying the idea of a female Link, she looked good in that Photoshop.

Really need to get this game out of my mind, my imagination is running wild, just like back in 2004 E3 LOZ reveal. Knowing this isn't going to come out for (at least) over a year & we probably wont see any more footage until the end of this year! Argh! The waiting is going to be unbearable, need to forget...

No way that isn't a girl. The waist is way too feminine.

Its. A. Photoshop.

Again, to all the people saying it looks like Zelda. Here is Link from the SNES days.

The hair, the face, the clothes. It's Link 100%. Why are people projecting some desire to have Link become Zelda onto this character? I seriously cannot fathom it If you played as Zelda it would look like Zelda. And he is obviously still a "he".

I literally cannot understand some of these reactions.

Figured they'd model Link after Marcus Fenix this try, but this is great too.

Seriously, this looks amazing and Nintendo has my dollars, just from this little tease.

It looks like Aonuma purposely made Zelda/Link look androgynous to bring it back up in a future direct and reveal it was a girl all along. Then reveal that you'll play as a female link, or as both Link and Zelda. I'm hoping for the latter. The long shirt, the waist, it's way too feminine to be Link. It looks like playing as Zelda you'll be using this special bow and arrow , and as Link you'd probably have more of the classic items.

EDIT: either that or I'm totally off and this is just kid Link. That would be fucking awesome, especially if you get older like OoT.

I have my doubts whether the open world graphics will look as good come release time.

Love the art style and general concept though.

I don't think Nintendo has ever 'downgraded' their graphics. Their games actually only seem to improve over time (SS improved upon it's tech demo). The game is probably well along with development, and seeing as how what we saw was from in-engine, I don't expect downgrades at all.

Why are people debating the gender more than anything else? It is 100% Link and he is 100% a dude. Link is one of the most androgynous characters in gaming. Someone shop his hat on his head to end this madness.

If we have a female protagonist, I think it has to be Link, and Zelda wouldn't work very well. The holder of the Triforce of Courage works better as the hero/heroine in the context of the established conventions of this franchise, symbolically 'wisdom' doesn't really undergo a series or heroic trials, it seems more in line with an attitude of pacifism, and a sort of Cassandra-like position to see much farther than most, but with a relative inability to act or affect change. Like many triads, it can probably be reduced to a relationship of body (power), heart (courage), and mind (wisdom). Again that archetype could be represented by either a male or female character, but wisdom as a singular quality, in the context of the trials that the player goes through, is arguably ineffectual. 'Wisdom' has its own set of trials.

I mean obviously they can do anything they want with the series, I don't really care as much as this post might suggest, it's really just my tendency to like thinking about things in archetypal terms. But I think if we're talking about maintaining some degree of consistency in terms of character/archetype, that seems way more essential to me than keeping Link male.

They've constantly talked about breaking series conventions with this game. Why are so many people afraid of having a female Link?

Yeah, glad to see some rationality here. Not really understanding the conjecture.

I'm not personally afraid. If you played as Zelda I wouldn't care. But the character design is obviously male. It's not a matter of being "afraid" it's that people are clearly and utterly wrong. It's Link, Link is a male, and it remains an obviously male design. Bring on a playable female character though in Zelda, that would be cool.

Does a female Link have to be any less androgynous? It goes both ways. You know how crazy and vague the Zelda people are about their things.

Yep. Target render. Waiting for some actual gameplay.

They already said it was in-engine. Nintendo's never lied about that shit. A game on this scale was possible on the Wii, evidenced by Xenoblade. Wouldn't surprise me if Monolith shared some of their secrets with Nintendo.

I've got to say I'm worried that this 'open world, go anywhere, do anything you want at any time' approach will have an effect on dungeons and puzzles, I wonder how they will handle game progression and how you get new items. ALBW was a bit too simple in that regard, I want more complexity from a console Zelda.

This is probably my biggest potential issue with the game - difficulty.

Like you said, if it takes a similar approach to ALBW then there's every chance the dungeons (assuming they still exist in traditional form) will be 'dumbed down' to accommodate not having specific equipment. Hopefully the wizards at Nintendo have methods to ensure this isn't the case.
