E3 2014 | Nintendo Digital Event

Oh, forgot to post impressions. Well I can't really post impressions on the digital event itself since the Treehouse event changed my perspective on everything. Let's just say Nintendo won E3 for me by a long shot.

Btw, I don't get the hate for the new Zelda artstyle/graphics. It looks incredibly stunning and it will be beautiful for years to come after. Like the guy above (or two posts above) said, an iconic/unique artstyle will stand the test of time.

I basically just see it as part two of the whole Wind Waker fiasco. Part of the kneejerk people had to its art style was because of the Space World Gamecube tech demo that included the Ganon vs Adult Link sword fight. It made people expect the next Zelda game was going to look like that, which only set up certain people for disappointment with Wind Waker. This pretty much repeats that, since the Wii U tech demo featured was gritty and much more in the vein of Twilight Princess, while the actual game is again going with a celshaded look more like Skyward Sword.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be perfectly fine for another game with an visual style like TP, I did really like the game's atmosphere and all. But the style they're going with is not only more unique, but probably also makes what they're trying to do with the actual open-world gameplay design much more feasible.

Hmmmmm, no talk about dumb tv shows, more real gameplay than CG trailers, no sales talk, no annoying presenters peddling buzzwords. I think this has started off as a marvelous E3.....for one of the console-makers. And yet, they still have more in store.

I know you've wrote that I need to "grow up". But the thing is, I did. I don't play with dolls anymore. I don't play catch anymore. I don't play cops and robbers anymore. I don't play games aimed at 6 years old anymore.

If you do, well then, the more power to you. But I'm 25 years old and my tastes match my age. It's the reason why Sony is and most likely will always be my favorite.

Nintendo is aimed at kids.
Microsoft aimed at teens.
Sony aimed at adults.

I'm three years older than you. I also don't play with dolls, catch, cops and robbers. But I do play Nintendo games. Your logic is seriously flawed and over-simplified. If you considered yourself an adult, you'd realise that.

Tastes do not match 'age'. Tastes match personality. Not all of us are interested in cutting open zombies/beasts/other humans.

This is probably true, and I can easily accept that. For me, Wind Waker was one of my lesser liked Zelda games, only ahead of Skyward Sword. So I have a hard time getting excited about the look. I'm just gonna hope for the best and see what happens.

If you actually bothered to check my post history in this thread you'd seen that in the very first post I wrote "Am I seeing things? Is Nintendo actually winning E3?", followed by my review of the "conference" in which I said they showed a tremendously strong 1st party line-up and it only failed in not securing 3rd party support. I gave it the 2nd highest score of E3.

But after everything was said and done, Nintendo didn't show me anything that said "go buy our system".
I saw the same old IP's on a new skin. Most of them with the same gameplay they've always had.
I saw nothing saying I'd have a better experience playing "Y game" on Wii U.

There are exceptions though and all three have them, but for the most part this is true.

And no manchild will tell me otherwise no matter how much insults they have to throw at me.

Worst, most closeminded, post I've read all day.

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” - Lewis Caroll

This quote never fails.

I'm sorry for you buddy, if that's your way of life.

Well I had to deal with insults in pretty much every answer to that post, but I'll be the bigger man and not answer in the same language.

Nobody said that Nintendo needs to drop the games that make Nintendo what it is.
I wrote that they need to make 3rd parties a core focus of their strategy. For 3 whole generations they have not done that.

Yes, Nintendo games are usually the cream of the crop. And yes, they don't move systems.

You said Uncharted was not a great game? Well I'm sorry to say that Uncharted is one of the 3 games that defined the previous generation. The other two being call of duty modern warfare and gears of war.

You sure sound like a big boy, huh?

That whole presentation was pretty good, and I'm certainly looking forward to a bunch of the games announced. Having said that, I guess they are just going to ride the Wii U out. I didn't see any new announcements there that are going to appeal to many people outside of existing Nintendo fans. I'm not sure what I expected them to show to try and turn the tide, but I certainly didn't see anything there that will move the needle.

I was at e3 all day; catching up to public opionion now. People thought the new Zelda reveal was bad?

It's everything we asked for.

I am 27 tomorrow, and I enjoy The Witcher as much as I enjoy Wind Waker. It's sad that people are limiting what they enjoy for the sake of being an "adult". Adult is being accountable and responsible. Playing Dark Souls while neglecting your responsibilities to others as human being? That's a kid. Playing Animal Crossing and still able to keep up with work, family, etc? That's an adult.

I'm a grown man at 29, but I can't tell you how snoring those Microsoft and Sony conferences were compared to Nintendo's event.

I don't applaud everything Nintendo does, but they're doing a lot right, especially compared to their competitors.

no, I didn't.

The other three inspired several games and made several others emulate or atleast try to emulate what made Uncharted/Call of Duty/Gears of War, Uncharted/Call of Duty/Gears of War.

The games you pointed were huge successes too, but you didn't get everyone and their mother trying to make games like them.

You're joking, right? There's countless Mindcraft clones out there.

Hell, these all existed in 2011. Imagine how many their are now: http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/lx5g3/complete_list_of_minecraft_clones

Only for the people that want gritty, dark, bloody etc games (guess having 2 press conferences filled to the asshole with those, wasn't enough). Outside that it's been very positive I feel.

To be fair. Many people were disappointed with Wind Waker art style and Nintendo gave these people the Twilight Princess style next. We just had the Skyward Sword style and Nintendo decided to tease people with the tech demo. It's understandable that there are many people unhappy about the art direction.

You're so edgy that I just got cut.

BTW, if we really have to compare ages, I'm 29 and I understand that claiming one company is more mature than others and makes a fan of said company superior is just bullshit.

Manchildren, indeed. Dude, just by throwing that term around shows that you still some growing up to today.

Just watch Project guard demo on the tree house live, is that ROB in that game lol

That game looks pretty fun

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfddE7iXuMU#t=11

I thought it was really innovative.

Id like to try it out. It seems to give an immersion of actually being in the robot and controlling it.

The customization sounded nice, as well as online battles.

Still just an early prototype.

edit: oops, read it as project robot.

Project Guard still looked neat.

Its really the only option they have, and just greenlight any idea you can think of.

Like a 4x4 team shooter involving squid people.

I really dont know what Nintendo can make that can appeal to people who are not into Nintendo games.

They launch with ZombiU people dont care
They get Bayo 2 people bitch
They get Devils Third people say it looks bad
They had a lot of 3rd party games the first two holidays, people rather buy them on other consoles (Two COD games, Two Batman games, Two AssCreed games, Splinter Cell and others like Madden and 2K)

Nintendo is not gonna get Military shooter exclusives

So they make Nintendo style games, if people dont like them, they are never gonna like Nintendo games, but they still have something amazing looking like X but thats not good enough for people since its a JRPG.

Nintendo is not gonna greenlight a bunch of games thats the same as PS4/Xboxone

And I'm very, very thankful they don't. Seeing the Xbone and PS4 conferences filled me with a new appreciation for Nintendo.

The show was so great. All of the big 3 had really nice showings, I'm happy.

New Zelda and Star Fox not being dead is everything i could ever hope for at this e3.

I loved the format. Really fast, not doing any live demos for too long, and the comedy bits were fantastic. Combined with the evolution of the developer directs (the tree house live show) it's been really entertaining and it has me feeling good about the future

Yep, this is basically my stance as well. If they can give us an open world game that still looks beautiful, I don't really need it to look like that tech demo at all (even though I prefer this newer style than the demo).

I got serious Princess Mononoke vibes from this reveal trailer. If this game manages to capture the same spirit we see in Ghibli works it will be the greatest Zelda of all time.

If the following has already been discussed, I apologize.

With all the bombs dropped today, I actually forgot about one game I expected to see at the event that ended up being a no-show:

Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem

Hopefully we hear more about this one soon. I'm not complaining at all though....Nintendo brought it hard this E3.

2 things:

1) This is probably Nintendo's most solid E3 showing since 2006. Beginning to end, it was fun and light and GAMES GAMES GAMES in a way that Sony and Microsoft talked big about delivering but missed the mark by having a slough of multiplats represent their brand and thus diluting it.

2) .... and the best part is, Nintendo had the best pre-E3 showing WITHOUT A LIVE PRESS CONFERENCE. So I think people can really shut the hell up about how these pre-taped showings can't generate equal hype after the collective yawn people were going through yesterday. Presentation is everything, NOT the method. So hopefully that talking point can be dead and buried now.

Tokyo Game Show, maybe?

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Was a great event. Make more noise. Bums me out how little people are actually talking about any of it here.

(Side note, don't tell anyone here I said that haha)

I thought there was a fair buzz about the event. At least equal to the other two.

This is definitely my prefered format, far more accessible, funny, not awkward and really got a good buzz going.

A grade from me.
