just downloaded this mod and i am getting around 50 fps on medium. im not too far in the game and I havent played around with the settings to see if my 7790 can handle the high settings with a decent framerate.

Testing out Maldo's mod a bit more, it's definitely improved. Before, when setting textures to Ultra, it would practically freeze every few steps, now it stutters a little, but it's practically the same as it initially was on High before the mod. Maldo, would it be possible for you to use the quick-focusing DOF settings from VAAS's version over at Guru3D?

In fact, I'm using now a new DOF preset that works better because focus your crosshair zone when aiming too.

Yes, someone on Guru3D made a version that also has the crosshair DOF on the driving, cover, and aiming cameras!

i dont remember his name but the file is called: v0.7+fixBossDoF.zip

Sweet. On second thought, though, I forgot your mod's like a GB and takes a while to upload, so don't worry about it, it's just a minor change. I've backed up my exe just in case their patch breaks the mod, too.

Hmm, is it possible to enable DOF only when in profiling mode? That seems like a decent way to go about it (as it would simulate the fact that your focusing on your phone rather than the environment).

I'm kind of unsure why they didn't do something like that in the begin with. DOF doesn't seem to have any serious performance hit and it is always enabled when driving with the cockpit anyways.

It looks like a video of someone playing Watch Dogs as far as I'm concerned, only the colours are slightly off and I can't see far enough into the distance.

I will never understand why people think having DOF on constantly for the main camera to blur things out at such small distance makes it more attractive while playing. This fix pretty much just does two things, implement headlight shadows (the headlight shadows look different from normal shadows btw) and the constant DOF. I don't u derstand how people are going ga ga over this claiming it improves it 10 folds and makes it similar to E3 footage when it clearly doesn't.

Also sweetFx made it look horrible, something's wrong when you could barely see anything in the city of Chicago.

Looks like shit.

I am the only one that don't like SweetFX at all?

I'm not a fan in most cases... People making games look more 'realistic' but often at the cost of playability (see Skyrim, where caves literally became too dark to see in) baffles me in play. That said, just to set up some pretty screenshots? Sure why not. It's just further proof that we're in the uncanny valley and sooner or later people will get tired of "not quite right" or "so realistic it hurts" and go back to actual stylization.

For now what TheWorse modifications does:

Enable headlight shadows.
Enable lighting in rain drops.
Enable an alternative bloom method.
Enable constant bokeh DOF with config per camera.
Three options for camera distance.
New values for shadows, reflections, pedestrians density, rain drops density, LOD distance, geometry culling distance and colorgrading.

In short, a few of those values are absolutely work in progress yet. It's not a "Enable E3 quality" like some people claims. But he's now tweaking reflections, reducing bloom, adjusting lighting parameters and bringing back ambient fog and anamorphic lensfrares to achieve a similar look to E3 demo. How far he can get, we don't know for now. A few people have changed DOF values to achieve an overall better feel while playing, setting the dof focus on the center of screen very quickly.

I'm waiting for ubisoft patch to analize how many changes they apply to the game and how modded files affect to them. If nothing wrong happens, I will release a configurator tool based on TheWorse modifications and maybe other people too combined with my stutter fix to put over ubi patch.

Could someone please pm me the Gamerprofile.xml ?
Can't believe I forgot to back it up & changed a few too many things to ultra and 'pc' and now tis a little too bright/strange.

Would really appreciate it.

Maldo - Loved your Crysis 2 work :D Keen to see what you do with this puppy should the update not make things anything more difficult etc...

Agreed, I'd have preferred if the mod had never been released, and we just sat around waiting 3 weeks for Ubisoft to release a patch. Since it doesn't make it look exactly like it did at E3 2012, this has all just been a huge waste of everyone's time.

SweetFX can be fine if you know what you're doing. The problem is everyone bumps contrast and slathers on sharpening (which emphasizes aliasing like crazy). So you wind up with screenshots\videos that have crushed blacks and mysteriously dark daytimes.

For some reason people think they need SweetFX.... but those same people keep asking me for my SweetFX settings when I post screenshots. But I'm not using SweetFX. So they're actually fine with the vanilla visuals. They're just convinced that they HAVE to use it because it "enhances visuals."

I enjoyed how the dynamic DOF looked in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAYcFBfWnBg

And was confused when it didn't work like that in the final game, when the DOF is still there (when activating your phone, when aiming, accessing an ATM, etc).

Now that this mod makes the DOF work pretty much exactly like this video, my suspicions that it was a design decision rather than a performance concession to remove it are pretty much confirmed - it looks nice in a video but when you're actually playing it's annoying when things don't come into focus where you want to look. The feeling is a bit like watching a 3D film, when looking at a part of the screen that isn't in focus. It's not comfortable on the eyes, for me at least.

However, I still think a very small amount of DOF in the very far distance is nice and not intrusive. It would also be good to have it become shallower only when approaching large objects, rather than reacting to the smallest things in front of the camera, like a street light or a pedestrian moving past the centre of the screen.

I dunno, I actually think a little DOF while in profile mode could look great and makes sense in this case.

It's really a lovely effect. I wouldn't want it enabled at all times or anything but I'd like to see it used more often. The way they implemented it during focus mode in the 2012 footage was really slick as well. I really don't much care for the way it works in the final game (just using fullscreen blur).

Again, it could work if it were used only in profiling mode. It would make logical sense there.

Delete it. When game starts, it creates a new one with default settings.

Barely, very very slight - sorry can't be more accurate but I don't notice any frame drops in the per second counter but I do feel it slightly.

PC update out, fingers crossed

They added more rain, better reflections (vs default) from what I can tell so far.

Also disabled his edits I think.

Seems to run a bit better, just unlocking framerate now. Dunno.

Well, the only thing the patch did for me was corrupt my save somehow. I just lost 67 hours of my life. Thanks Ubisoft.

I'm glad I ticked "do not let Steam automatically update this game" for Watch Dogs.

I'm waiting to hear if the mod can be salvaged post patch. I'm not going back to the modless game.

You can revert to the mod by replacing the patch files. I'm back to using Maldo's mod instead because the patch did fuck-all for performance. I tried to go to a hideout and it took about 2 minutes to load.

Maldo, when in the city, the textures look fine, but when in the countryside or industrial areas, places on the ground with dirt still have a ton of shimmering.

Is there anything that can be done about that?

The patch seems to have done nothing at all to improve performance (in fact, I'd say it seems to have made it worse), if they did do things to improve performance - then its covered up because it seems they did nothing at all to help with stuttering.

Not a good start at all, as such if it doesn't break online play I'm reverting back so i can use the tweaked settings instead.

So I installed the mod and ran through the intro mission and a little bit of the area by your starting motel with FRAPS running and saw pretty significant improvements in performance. However, for the life of me, I can't get this piece of shit game to open in fullscreen and stay that way. I've checked my gamerprofile.xml file and confirmed that it's set to 2 for windowed mode including setting the file to read-only but it just will not display in fullscreen.

I can change it to borderless window mode after starting but fuck doing that every time I want to play. If no one has a way to fix this I think I'm just gonna can this game, chalk up the $60 as a loss and go back to playing Infamous. Maybe Ubisoft will get around to fixing this crap but I'm done scouring the internet trying to find a fix when I should be having fun playing the damn game.

So the pc patch didn't fix performance? I will try it when I get home. If it doesn't, then I'm uninstalling the game right now and never playing it again.
