Hmm. I just saved the Mii in MiiMaker on the 3DS, emailed it to myself and it was this jpg file with a white background.

This is awesome!

It's probably too late for this, but I have a suggestion. Perhaps a good way to differentiate this card from /v/'s (so it doesn't look like we're just copying it just because they did it) and to give it a bit more Nintendo flare would be to have everyone make Miiverse drawings and combine all those together instead? Nintendo themselves have done just that with Miiverse collages, and the fact that every submission is black and white with a set resolution helps give the whole thing more consistency. Plus, this way there would be all those original posts out there on Miiverse, too, helping to spread the good message.

EDIT: For example, here's a collage that Nintendo put together using Miiverse posts for Splatoon:

my mii because i'm 8 to 5'ing and have nothing better to add, my well wished would be:

Una pronta recuperacion y mucha salud Señor Iwata!

Thought I re-post this part of the OP, just as a heads up to the people posting only there Mii's alone here.

*please try not to just dump your Mii in this thread in the hopes that others will find a use for it. A simple image with your Mii and a few kind words is a perfectly acceptable submission.
example.

Probably the best thing is if people want to, they can leave Get Well messages in this thread, and hopefully we can print them out and put them with their username in the card. If people also want to make pictures using Paint, art Academy or what-have-you, submit them and let's see if we can get them all formatted to fit.
I really can't say I like that idea. Part of what made the /v/ cards so appealing was that the message was at the forefront, without anyone's name attached to it. Names from random people are going to be next to meaningless, so a bunch of user names from a forum he might not have visited would likely be even more meaningless. In this case, I really think the sentiment should take the forefront, and that something quasi-anonymous would be for the best. This isn't about us; it's about Iwata. Simply knowing that you sent your well wishes should be enough.

Count me in! I'm not too crazy about the PET idea though, I think it should be something Nintendo related.
But we're sending it to Iwata, not Nintendo. This should be something with some personal significance to him. The actual main content will be Nintendo-related, anyway.

If you wanted to incorporate Miis, would the best way be to use them on the reverse of any card? You could use the back for messages, as suggested, then incorporate Miis too. Something like this, perhaps? Anyone without a Mii would just get some kind of symbol (I've used the Balloon Fight sprite for the mockup, but you could use anything else):

Going back to what I mentioned earlier, the names and Mii on the card are bigger than the message itself. Not exactly the best way to send one's wishes.

I really like this idea. Even the /v/ card wasn't consistently amazing, but just the act of actually making something instead of merely slapping your face on it sends a much better message, regardless if actual artistic ability. Plus, I'm sure it'd actually look better with the PET template.

But what about those of us who don't have a Wii U yet that want to send Iwata good tidings along with GAF?

Pretty hasty to run a story on it, when it's just in the planning stages. Plus, the use of "sends" makes it sounds like we've already done it.

I've made some decent drawings just using the 3DS screen. If you don't have either, though, you could basically just open Paint, set the image to a low resolution, and then just make something in black and white.

Going back to what I mentioned earlier, the names and Mii on the card are bigger than the message itself. Not exactly the best way to send one's wishes.

Very good point - if I was to refine that idea, I'd reverse that so the messages were in the heavier face above the well-wisher's name in a smaller, lighter face, with the Mii an appropriate size alongside.

Black & white art actually works really nicely with the one I was playing about with:

Yes, here's an example (i.e. not my submission) of me just running an image through Photoshop to make it look like a Miiverse image that someone spent hours on.

I don't see why we have to care what they think, it's not like we need their approval or anything. It doesn't matter what they have to say just ignore it.

They are going to hate NeoGAF just like they hate most things it's what they do, it's not going to stop so it needs to be dropped. We all just need to focus on what this thread is about rather than trivial internet wars.

Didnt know /v/ and GAF had beef?
What do you expect? GAF calls them a hive immature losers and they call GAF a hive of pretentious losers. The problem that both sides have is that people never really look into these things and just take that word as gospel.
Also /v/ is well known for hating everything. They want to like that their efforts were recognised but they can't so they have to turn that to hate.

It's probably best to ignore this; we wouldn't want this thread to devolve into another board-wars battlefield.

Dunno. I think it's better to make it clear that what they did was a cool and decent thing, and that people here wanted to do something similar after seeing /v/ had done, and particularly after finding out just how serious his "health issues" are. There's nothing to be ashamed of there, and I think saying something like that and reaching out to anyone elsewhere who wanted to participate is better than circling the wagons or trying to ignore it.

I agree it's a good idea to acknowledge what they did, what they did was great. I don't think they could care less though, seeing as how in the OP acknowledges it and even says it's lovely. Still though it should be acknowledged and there should be no doubt it was the inspiration.
