1. No Wii U (Activision are player haters). Honestly this is the type of game that you just think, why not?

2. This is a conflicting pairing of pub & dev

3. Korra was not a good series. I would give it 6/10 and that's being favourable. The best episodes were the ones that featured a different Avatar
(Wan)

4. Based on how bad I found the series, I am very surprised at the positive reaction from GAF for a mediocre TV tie in. Even if it is from platinum.

Does the developer being Platinum guarantee it won't be crap? Honest question.

P.s. The last airbender is one of my favourite shows. Watched it all a good few times. Was disappointed when, after realising there was a game of it, that it looked like shovelware.

You may not like character action games and thats fine but that doesn't take away from the fact that Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising is top tier in their genre in terms of quality.

And you thinking that doesn't automatically invalidate my opinion. :)
Just like my opinion doesn't invalidate yours.
Quality is subjective.

"PleasedonotsuckpleasedonotsuckPLEASEdonotsuck....etc."

This was being repeated through my head when hearing about this reveal. As much as I enjoy most of Platinum Games output, a lot can go wrong when working on a video game that is based on an existing property, especially with the potential that this game might be the victim of a rushed development cycle.

Just going to throw this out there and see if it sticks.

Maybe

People don't feel the same way you do

Oh, there's no Wii U. Does that imply that Activision's Wii U output going forward won't even include their licensed games and will be solely Skylanders and (probably, although as yet unconfirmed) Call of Duty?
Did Spider-Man underperform even super-modest expectations or something.

So, here's what I think is going to happen:

Airbending: light, fast melee attacks
Earthbending: slow, heavy melee attacks and parries
Firebending: projectiles (Gunslinger)
Waterbending: secondary, weird melee weapon, like Bayonetta's whips

Assuming the studio that made Bayonetta would be limited to ranged only or melee only fighting styles? C'mon, son.

Their Wii U agenda has never included the eShop, for whatever it's worth.

My assumption is Microsoft and Sony give them better digital margins than Nintendo does, because you have to, because it's Activision.

I enjoyed all of the games they put out so far. They put gameplay up front and tack on the ridiculous over the top shit later.

But the Avatar/Korra property... i guess I did like the animations but don't care about the story/characters at all.

Weird pairing indeed.

I've been thoroughly underwhelmed with the Legend of Korra (so many narrative issues I don't want to get into), mostly because the original series had so much more going for it, but I'm eager to see what Platinum can do with this property. I've enjoyed most of their games so far and they are responsible for what I consider the finest action game of the previous generation, so maybe this franchise can get the quality game adaptation it deserves.

This news excites and confuses me.

I'm still torn. I want a PG game, but Korra is a huge, huge turn off.

testing waters? as long as it's not priced over 20$, the mechanics of the game should be enough to justify the purchase if you like action games.

Activision is backing away from licensed games. Maybe that opens up a slot for funding a new IP with PG*?
a nice 3rd person view game IP is not an unreasonnable investment.

I am so down for tgis game. Avatar has a good world for a game. Hopefully if this game is well received, they will make a fully fledged Avatar The Last Airbender game.

all my loli wolf companions are so moe

For me I think the subject or design still matters. It's why I avoided Racettear.

I'm wearily looking forward to this. Platinums combat aesthetic with TLA's world make my mouth water.

But those screens are freaking ugly. Like, horribly ugly. If this was an RPG I wouldn't care, but PG is undertaking this project. I don't know.

I'm certain there's way more Korra fans than WiiU Platinum devotees.

Also when you think about it given the sales of Platinum's software, they don't exactly have a large following. I don't think we can use Revengeance sales when that is a MGS game.

Whatever this sells it will sell largely because of the license, not Platinum.

Platinum's original titles are pretty invariably commercial failures, or at best middling, so I wouldn't expect Activision to consider that any time soon.

That isn't a fair assessment for Platinum. There have been avatar games in the past and none of them have lit up fans before this announcement and I'm not just talking about Neogaf.

A critically acclaimed developer like Platinum working on this game is feeding into the hype in spite of the fact many fans are critical of how the Korra storylines have been handled.

On one hand it surprises me that Activision decided not to do a Wii U version when Bayo 2 is releasing on Wii U this year, so there would have been some kind of "continuation" for Platinum Games output.

On the other hand this not being a retail release kind of explains it, as Activision has practically nothing released on eshop, which is a pity.

Edit: I might buy this on PC, but I'm not sure about it. I really don't like the cartoon, but Platinum Games? I'm conflicted about it.

Platinum isn't some instant win for me, they've made more games I've disliked than liked, but I think it's really super cool that Activision went to them for this project. It's the kind of thing you shit out by some random small studio. Activision went straight to the premiere character action studio in the world. Seriously cool move.

This is why I have faith in the game. It's not a "Platinum can do no wrong" kind of thing, it's that Activision went to them over any no-name studio that would accomplish the same goal (getting them money). It suggests that they do at least want to make a halfway-decent game.

Quality is subjective.

Quality isn't subjective though. Art is subjective, taste is subjective but bayonetta was a technical marvel with a deep combo system, an easy to get into gameplay, impressive graphics and is critically lauded. The story is barebones but so is every other cag and is one of the few valid points against it.

Again it may not tickle your fancy but platinum objectively and consistently releases high quality titles. Just like Nintendo releases high quality platformers even if I don't like many of them myself.

I also think the reason activision chose platinum is their ability to work under a tight schedule on a low budget. Just thinking at how quickly they made bayonetta and it was their first hd title is a feat.

Oh man, oh boy, oh geez.

Regardless of my meh to negative opinions on Korra, this has tons of potential. Here's hoping gameplay makes up for ugly visuals and most likely rushed code that most tie-in games suffer from.

I wonder what's more hated in this thread, Kill la Kill, or The Legend of Korra. I should hope the game is more fun than listening to either group of complainers' continued bellyaching, either way.

Or platinum is cheaper than you think
