DS4 thumb sticks might have a problem?

I ordered these mainly because they aren't as tall as the others, which is preferable for me.

Anyone found any replace tips that are similar to the DS3 where it's kind of mushroom shaped?

I actually prefer not having an indentation on the top for your thumb to rest since it feels like you are forced to dig your thumb into an exact spot at not move. I liked how on the DS3, you could place your thumb anywhere and it felt correct since it was all the same surface.

I had read about potential issues with the DS4 thumbsticks, plus I just like the feel of a rubber analog stick, so I ordered the item listed below off of Amazon, and seriously it has been the best $10 I have ever spent on gaming accessories ever.

NEW 9 Pairs X Thumbstick Stick Grip Case for PS4 Playstation 4 Xbox 360 PS2 PS3 Controller Gampad Joystick--9 Colors Wholesale Pack

Every single controller I own, well except my Vita and 3DS, has these on it. It was a little loose on the WiiU Pro Controller, but they still work like a charm. Every other controller they fit perfectly.

The one and only downside I can possibly think of is the colors are a bit garish.

Now keep in mind, by no way am I condoning the fact that this is happening to DS4's. It should be fixed without having to resort to 3rd party solutions. However for $10 all of my controllers have a nice grip to them on the analog sticks, and I also know that none of them will suffer any wear and tear.

I get these from ebay. They run like $5 for a set of 10. I use them on all my controllers from X360, XBone, PS3, PS4, and even the Wii Nunchuck. They are great cause they give you plenty of extra grip along with protecting the analog sticks.

Do those fit well on the ps4 thumbsticks? I wanted to get a concave set of fps freeks that are shorter but some of the reviews made it seem like the the ones that don't support ps4 would be too loose

I'll hopefully get them soon so I can test and let you know!

Edit: So I didn't even realize the Justice wasn't natively compatible with PS4 thumbsticks (I'm blind) so I e-mailed their customer support and am hoping to be able to have them switched out with the Futbol Freeks.

Thought I was immune since I really haven't used mine too much but my left thumbstick developed a small tear over the weekend.

There are other companies aswell though. Grip it, ORB Pro, and Geltabz.

yeah. i tried the grip-its. good for protection i guess but i thought they were worse than the stock ds4 in terms of actual grip (go figure with the name and all haha). other gaffers seem to like them though...

The rubber on both my sticks are starting to completely tear off now. Hopefully when I finally get around to getting a new DS4, the issue doesn't repeat itself.

LOL! In an ideal world the stock DS4 sticks would do the job, but it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon.

My friend and I have both had our PS4s since December, and we both had our first tear within the last weak. Is there any good grips that don't add height (or at least just minimal height from the rubber itself)

Has anyone been having issues with R2 trigger? Had barely used my controller at all before the hinges broke... and buying a new controller for $90 was not fun. I don't mind the analog sticks losing rubber, but this is ridiculous.

$90 for a controller?

It has been fixed. The new controllers are improved. You are just still seeing the fallout from the launch models.

Is this confirmed that there have been changes at all? Or is it possible that the new ones just haven't had time to have problems yet. I've had mine for almost 7-8 months (launch DS4s) and they are only now starting to have problems, same with my friend. We might not see problems with the new ones for awhile.

Good question. All I know is mine started to show significant wear within a month.

I'm not sure who it was, but I'd just like to thank the GAFer who suggested swapping out sticks instead of buying a whole new controller. Saved me $60 and it wasn't as hard of a process as I thought it might be (and I NEVER fuck around with stuff like that).

They had an Ellie (TLoU) avatar. So yeah, thanks!

Actually have a gash in my left thumbstick. But I didn't feel it gradually start to happen or anything, just noticed it one day. Based on the way it looks it seems that something might have "stabbed" it. Looks like a small cut basically.

It's technically possible it's from using it, but I doubt that since I didn't play my PS4 for months and came back to play Resogun and it was there, without me noticing it previously.

I've seen that my brother's controller is worn out (he is hammering that thing, but he didn't have that problem with the DS3 even though he's probably played for hours in the thousands.)

Those replacements grips, can they be applied on top of non-worn out pads for protection? Or do you have to peel the old one anyway?

I bought some grip-its and they felt a little too slick for me at times. Oh, and I was able to get my order switched to the Futbol Freeks. You should maybe check those out if you want PS4 stick covers that aren't tall.

There has not been a confirmation from Sony or anything and Im guessing there probably won't be.

My launch DS4 with "eraser head" sticks was peeling, I sent it back to Sony, and the new one I received in return has a completely different rubber. It is much harder and more like the rubber on the DS3. There are other changes like the buttons and dpad have more of a matte finish and the touch pads clicks better than before.

The closest thing I've seen to a confirmation was a post around March in a thread about DS4's being low on stock. Someone reported that a Sony rep at Gamestop said they were "changing the rubber formula" because the originals were wearing down faster than expected. I just searched but could not find that post to reference.

god damnit...are those new? i swear i didn't seem them on the site a few months ago otherwise I would have ordered those instead of the cqc signature because of the concave vs. mixed design.

weird that they are advertised as being for soccer games though...thats like such a small set of games...nevermind released a month ago just in time for World Cup. :p

So after shopping around, the cheapest and effective thing for me was to buy the biogenik covers for $5 from ebgames.

I'm currently using the concaves and they feel AMAZING!

Dang.. Looks like there is no way to get these in the states. Looks exactly like what I'm looking for.

You can order them off Amazon. I have a pair that I think I ordered off UK amazon.. My sticks never broke apart though, I know my friends controller did..

Not quite. My post launch controller with the different rubber texture is more durable than it's predecessor, but is still almost bald, and I have very little time to game anymore.

Haha me too! It's the left stick as well.

I am sending my current DS4 to Sony to get a replacement, so fingers crossed the same problem doesn't happen again.

Anyone who has a problem with this, give Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) a tweet. He's a Twitter monster, and the more he sees people react to this, the more he'll know about this issue.

The PlayStation CS said less people are reporting this issue, so I don't know if he was talking rubbish, or the latest batch have been improved.

Who did you buy those from?

I really need a good source that has the real sticks, I got some from Ebay and they were all over the place quality wise, 7 garbage 3 OKish.

I gutted my real Xbone controller as the USB port was broken, and it was an import. Expensive solution, but I've ordered some new sticks off Amazon to put in the Xbone controller.

Ordered these.

I actually did tweet the @playstation people (not Yoshida specifically).

Yeah I was surprised to find them here (almost sold out at every EB too...so I guess a lot of people have had this issue). I'm just glad I didn't have to order from the US (shipping $$, waiting, etc).

Funny enough, now that the trigger issue is ok with me, my right bumper is squeaking hahaha. Time for some WD40. I swear I'm not rough with my controllers, I don't know what's happening with this one!

My left stick just started peeling today, but near the center. A large chunk decided to fall off. Pretty annoying.

I guess I'll have to buy some grips.

Had my PS4 for about a month, probably 50-60 hours of playtime on it... maybe less.

Last night, the RIGHT stick on my controller started peeling while playing a round of UFC online, at about the 4 to 5 o'clock position on the stick. I could feel the rubber coming off as I played, and judging by some of the pics in this thread it's just going to get worse.

Do I need to wait until it's completely unusable, or should I start some kind of RMA process now?

FWIW, the other controller I bought feels like it might have a different coating on the sticks, but I have barely used it so I might be wrong about that.

Successfully changed from DS4's analogs to the X1's on my DS4, it feels great with no deadzones or anything negative. I'd recommend it to anyone with the problems with the right analog.

I just wanted to add my 2 pennies in the form of my (launch) controller also having flaking rubber on both sticks. Left seems a little less problematic then right however. Probably going to find me some caps, because i'm a lazy person and cba to call into Sony's Dutch customer support, which I've had some horrible experiences with.

Seems to be a real issue, though i've yet to get a second controller to see if the more recent batches hold up. Playing multiplayer games with a Vita is becoming a pain, so i'll probably get one soon and find out!

It's a shame the gaming media haven't grabbed hold of this in any meaningful way. I'm pretty sure Sony would be forced to do something about this if they got enough heat about it from the big sites out there.
