Seriously. Between that and Tails' name, we got some real brainiacs around here.

This and Miles Prower should be in their own thread called, "I was so hopped up on Captain Crunch and Ritalin that I didn't pay any attention to anything when I was young, even things I was supposed to see. Now I will claim they are easter eggs."

Agreed... for many of them. Like the shadow of the SMB "3" isn't an easter egg... it's the damn logo! Did you know notice there's a clock in the Chrono Trigger logo too??? :lol :lol :lol

I didn't get Miles Prower though. Maybe because I'm Canadian and we have Metric system.

That's what makes it mind blowing. It's something that we should have noticed, but didn't. I passed it along to some of my friends and they all had the same reaction.

On the other hand.. I think me and my crowd of 6 year old friends marvelled at that, the moment we turned the game on in 1990 :/

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's that.

It's so awesome because if you're just focusing on fighting Metal Sonic (who has the Master Emerald, which is why Angel Island is falling in the first place), it's extremely tough to notice.

I can't believe they had the sense to program that into the game.

if you'll notice, the Island falls right out of view JUST as the 10-minute time limit comes up. Talk about attention to detail :lol

In Seaman, on the Dreamcast, there's a 30-second or so techno song that Seaman "sings" at the end of the game, using a lot of Leonard Nimoy's voice samples. To get it, you have to play through the game giving the same answers one of the developers would have given at the time the game was released, including setting your DC's clock to within the first week the game was originally released.

This is something that cannot be answered. I am a HUGE mario fan and this is the first I have EVER noticed that. My mouth is hanging open in surprise and my hand is on my forhead at how I could have ever missed it.

It's easy to miss because when you read it, you just think "number" and move on.

It's like that email that went out a while back showing that if you take a paragraph and rearrange all the letters in each word, as long as the first and last letters are the same, you can read it just fine.

Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteres are at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a tatol mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe.

The screen pops up, I read Super Mario Bros 3, I then press start or maybe watch the stuff going on at the bottom of the screen for a while. The shadow seems obvious, but there's other stuff going on on the screen and I don't make it a habit of staring at the letters/numbers in every logo I see.

Which page is page 70? Can we at least get a post number when you people do this? Not all of us keep our "Posts per page" count so low.

Instead of bitching because you choose to go against the grain why not figure it out yourself? The default is 50 posts per page so page 70 would be post 3500+. This is all irrelevant though as the title is referencing post #70, not the page.

edit: beaten

So you're saying we haven't had any other SHOCKING SECRETS in the last 1000+ posts?

I'm shocked. I would have thought something more shocking would have come along in the past 4 months or so.

GAF disappoints. :p

I'm sure I'm posting the obvious for 90% of you guys... BUUUUT, Ryu & Ken's Hadouken attacks are actually their hands in energy form. Look at their hands and at the center of the energy ball.

Though it was there to see in the original SFII, it wasn't too easy to spot unless you were looking for it. It became less obvious in later games and was even completely dropped in some later games. However, they made it as obvious as possible in the last pic:

Uniracers for the SNES would not allow you to use names like "Sega" and such for your unicycle's name. It would say "Not cool enough"...however when you typed in "Sonic" it allowed it, but you had to play the game in slow motion

The Sega Genesis/Mega-Drive controller has the exact same pin layout and connector as the Atari 2600. You can actually plug a Genesis controller into an Atari 2600 without any modifications at all and use it as normal

Pac-Man was originally called Puck-Man but was changed after Namco feared rambunctious teens would alter the P to an F in the title

I didn't know about the Hadoken hands... I used to draw pics of Ryu doing fireballs like 15 years ago.. All my childhood drawings... inaccurate :(

Miles Prower

Miles per hour
I thought most people knew this, I use to use the "miles per hour" as a name on the sonic adventure 1 BBS :D

The 3 from mario brothers is one of the main things I remember playing it in my youth, can't see how you can miss it.

And lastly while the stones in marble zone may look like mario I think that's just a fluke and not intended, two lions or animals with a statue of something tall in the middle seems more obvious to me.

I think that's one of the most forced acronyms out there, actually.

This was also true of the Master System controller. Almost all SMS games would play with a Genesis pad - Wonder Boy in Monster Land is one of the few games that won't work.

That one I did know about. I wonder if Megaman's has his hands in it in the Megaman X games though....

:D

I'm glad I didn't add something completely known to all as I thought I might be doing.

Samus's power suit runs Windows. One of the enemies in MP2 gives her the blue screen of death. I can't for the life of me find a screenshot though.

The SMB3 surprises me with the amount of people who didn't notice it.

However, I can't believe I never got the Miles per hour thing. I always wondered why they gave him a name in the first place.

Eh, I only noticed that in the Street Fighter II HD thread... I never realized that before and always wondered "what is that black shit in the middle of the fireball?"

Most people think that, when you play Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic and Knuckles' stories are happening at the same time.

But they're not. Knuckles' story takes place AFTER Sonic's story is completely finished. There are several clues that point this out:

*You never see Sonic, nor Robotnik when playing as Knuckles (Flying battery zone glitch and ending notwithstanding)
*The Death Egg isn't at Launch Base Zone
*The Death Egg isn't at Lava Reef Zone
*The ghosts have already been released in Sandopolis Zone
*Angel Island is floating during Knuckles' story, as evident by the final boss battle with Mecha Sonic. If it was taking place at the same time as Sonic's story, it would be in the ocean.

Incidentally - Sonic 1 takes place over the span of 1 day:
Green Hill Zone - morning
Marble Zone - daytime
Spring yard zone - evening
Labyrinth Zone - Inside, so no look at the sky
Star Light Zone - night
Scrap brain zone - dawn

Sonic & Knuckles takes place over the course of 3 days, 6 if you count Knuckles story.
mind blown >_<

hmmm now that I think about doesn't streets of rage take place in one night?

The Japanese legendary shape-shifting Tanooki is said to put leaves on its heads and to chant prior to transformation. In some legends, the leaf is the sacred lotus plant of Buddhism. When Mario gets a leaf, he gains pointy ears and the tail of a Tanooki.
mario_plus_tanuki.bmp

“Tanuki” is the Japanese word for ‘raccoon’ (Nyctereutes procyonoides). They have been part of Japanese folklore since ancient times. The legendary tanuki is a mischievous master of disguise and shapeshifting.

So it's kind of strange because in Mario 3 there is a normal raccoon suit, and also a tanuki suit. But tanuki means raccoon, so there are two different raccoon suits. Kind of interesting.
