NOA Club Nintendo Gold And Platinum Prizes Revealed, And You're Not Gonna Like it...

Hot damn, tf2heavyhahahaohwow.gif. The best thing I can say is that DKCR3D, Game & Wario, NES Remix, and Earthbound are pretty good platinum rewards for those who want digital downloads. Not that good, of course: cheap eShop downloads, a crappy minigame collection, and and a port of a 4 year old game that's already been out for more than a year. But not insulting.

I'm laughing, though, at Dillon's Rolling Western being platinum-only. Seriously? A poorly-reviewed game that no one cares about, that I downloaded for 200 coins last year, and you can't toss it to the gold members? And absolutely nothing but NES and Game Boy games for gold? Good lord.

To those who don't get why people are complaining about "free" games:

First of all, you've really gotta stop helping skeevy corporate marketing departments by calling things you have to pay for "free."

Second, this is Nintendo's rewards program. This is when they promise to make you feel good about being a Nintendo fan. This is when they show exactly how much they appreciate your being one of the few people who have shelled out the hundreds of dollars for their failing console. This is when they look you in the eye and say "Here's what we think of you." Well, I guess what NoA thinks of us is that they should take us for granted, since they can't be bothered to provide us with anything exclusive, nor anything that costs then even a cent (physical rewards).

I really don't understand why people are so upset. Why would you not want free games over a calender? I'm always wicked excited when I can get a free game. Aren't games the reason we love Nintendo?

Also, why would you go out of your way to buy your way to Platinum Status for what are almost always mediocre prizes? If you don't hit it based on your regular purchases, your kind of wasting your money.

Man on what planet do Nintendo fans live where they actual want physical shit? Maybe I just take my minimalism for granted but I could not imagine wanting any physical gaming tchotchkes or collectors edition bullshit. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ right in the trash.

Seriously though why do people like this stuff? Even if it's well designed the items are usually pretty low quality anyways.

Then just take your digital game and store it with your terrible opinions? Usually we would get the option for physical goods along with digital games as an alternative. This year instead we are getting the "Best Of" collection of cheap games that are not even from this year. The best ones on there are Game & Wario and Donkey Kong, one of which is an unpopular game you can regularly find on sale and the other is a port. I only say they are the best because you are getting the most bang for your buck, because they are both currently around $30 (not on sale) depending on where you buy them. Considering you only get to choose one game, you are effectively spending hundreds of dollars and getting one game in return.

Even as far as digital goods they are shitty. Could they not even give us games that aren't available to the general public, like they did with the ambassador program? Or even offer newer eShop titles, like Dillon's Rolling Western 2 or NES Remix 2? Or how about a Virtual Console title that was released this year? GBA titles? Or at least a Virtual Console release that isn't literally the cheapest ones available?

Why ask why people even like this stuff? It's Club Nintendo, the physical exclusive items have long since been the appeal.

That's really weak.

I guess it gives me an excuse to download NES Remix or Rolling Western, so there's that.

But it's depressing to see that we physically get nothing this year. :( They've been moving more and more in this direction with the normal prizes too, it feels like.

You're not gonna like it?!? Fuck, I'm fucking ECSTATIC!

I don't have a physical address in the US so I always have to give my Platinum away, but this year it actually meant something! I can't believe it! After all these years, I'm finally getting free shit off Nintendo!

How is the 3DS version of DKCR? I was reading it had some new levels and normal controls but the framerate got lowered to 30fps. Does that end up being a problem at all?

If anyone doesn't want their copy of NES Remix, I have $5 in Amazon credit I'm willing to trade. PM me if you are interested!

I actually think these prizes are good. Sure, it would have been nice to have physical items too, but several of these titles are appealing to me (although I own some already, and don't have a Wii U). I'll be grabbing Fluidity, though it'd be nice if I could pick any Gold game along with the Platinum one.

Is there any big difference with DKCR3D and the Wii version? I already beat the Wii version so I'm not sure if I should get it.

DKCR Returns and Game and Wario are decent values, but unfortunately I already have them (and earthbound, and NES Remix). Guess I might get Dillon? Or just get a digital code for DKCR since I currently have physical...

Unimpressed with this. I don't want a figurine but posters or a soundtrack CD would have been good.

The drop in fps is definitely noticeable, but after adjusting it never got in the way of my experience. I actually think it's a pretty great port job all things considered.

No offense, but buying something for money and then getting something else for no additional money makes the second thing free. You didn't pay for it just because you payed for something else before.

Club Nintendo is not now nor has it ever been some kind of Ploy by Nintendo to lure people in to being Nintendo Fans for rewards. It just something they decided to do to be nice for people giving them feedback. If you go out of your way to hit platinum, instead of just buying the games you would normally buy, you didn't get played, you acted like a fool.

Posting again for another page.

I am trading two current nintendo club monthly rewards for a gold prize

OR I am trading all four currently monthly rewards for a platinum prize.

OR 500 point reward plus one monthly reward for a platinum prize.

example: you give me gold prize, I give you two of the current monthly rewards of your selection.

I am still wanting:
Wii U
Kid Icarus
Adventures of Link
Ice climber

3DS
Donkey kong country 3D
Minis on the move.

Do people seriously buy games just for the hope of some great reward at the end of the year instead of buying games because they want to play the games?

That's insane. Spend that money on Ebay auctions for Japanese rewards or other better collector items. You guys are setting yourselves up for disappointment.

Coins are nothing more than a bonus to me. In fact, I usually have more coins than I have any use for since 95% of physical rewards offered don't appeal to me at all. If there was more games offered, that would be way better than what it has been offered so far.

The most expensive reward I've gotten (or have had the opportunity to get before it sells out) was the Game & Watch Collection on DS, 800 coins. Kind of cool for the novelty but 250 coins for Smash Bros and 150 coins for Super Punch Out (which I don't have to worry about selling out either) are rewards that stomp all over that reward.

I've never played DKCR (well...post world 1) so I might get that. I wish that the selection of games would've been better though, at least for Platinum members.
If they have gotten platinum that means that they've probably purchased a lot of software and answered a bunch of surveys. Digital games don't cost them anything, and it would've been nice if they gave people higher tier rewards than Game & Wario. (It doesn't even have to be MK8 or SM3DW, but Pikmin, W101, WindWaker, or maybe year 1 3DS games)

I don't even bother with trying to get Platinum status and I already own the majority of what they're offering, and the few things I don't have I don't have because I'm not interested in them. You would absolutely not be excited if you spent all that time filling out surveys and collecting points if at the end of it you see that the only rewards you have the option of picking from are things you bought on the way to getting to the status in the first place.

It would be like being a huge movie fan and joining a club where you collect points for doing surveys after every new movie you see, only to find out at the end of the year that your prize is that you get to go see one of the movies you already saw throughout the year while doing all of your surveys and collecting all of your points.
Why would you buy games solely to reach a rewards level?
Where did I say I would?

I couldn't agree more. I never have less than a thousand coins on my account and I only ever use them for VC titles, and I get every VC title I don't own when it pops up. It is absolutely mind blowing to me that someone would actually go out of their way to pay money just to reach platinum status.

I wouldn't waste your reward on it. That and Dillion stay clear of.
Hmm... My gf already has DKCR so unless there's multicard multiplayer I don't feel like picking it either.

Earthbound or Game and Wario? Already played through Earthbound tons of times. Is Minis on the Move a 3DS or a DS game?

Pathetic and I was already expecting to be disappointed. I guess I'll choose DKCR even though I'd rather have a physical cart.

I guess, I just don't look at it that way. I already own most the the games listed. I don't own Game & Wario, because it doesn't appeal to me. Never the less, I'm excited that I now get to try it and I don't have to spend $30 to do it.

Wow this is some straight up bullshit. This is my reward for loyalty? For spending hundreds of dollars on Nintendo gear? A 5 dollar game? Fuck off Nintendo. Not happy.

Is there a reason no one is even considering Dr. Luigi?

Seems like a decent value considering I already have G&W, DKCR3D, and NES Remix

Damnit. If I new I could have gotten DKC3D I would have tried to gather some extra points to push me to platinum...
My fault but damn am I disappointed.

What is the best game to go for in the gold bracket?

Sigh. I picked a great year to join Club Nintendo for the first time. They need to add better rewards I can redeem my coins on at least.

Well I was about 30 coins short of platinum, and I foolishly thought I'd be missing out. I actually feel relieved that these are so awful, because I already own the only ones I'd want to buy.
