Resident evil

I'm sure this thread has popped up before so infect if old

My GF begs me to play Resi 5 like every time she gets. She can't get enough of it.

I decided to play the entire series with her because fuck it, gotta know the story. She had no interest in resi 1, graphics put her off.
She loved Resi 2 - story was intense
Loved Resi 3 - the 'jumpy' moments were exciting etc...
Just gotta do 'Code Veronica' and 'resi 4' and we sorted lol

Personally I've played them all and loved all but resi 6 but my question is, which Resi do you think is the best and why?

My vote - resi 3 hands down every time. It's like an updated version of Resi 2. Easier to play and better graphics.

Only one game gives me Leon sitting on a throne.

A keeper.

Skip CV.

Resi 2 is the best, perfect mix of scary tension, horror and action, and so much replayability.

RE4 or RE2

RE2 Claire A Leon B is like a Playstation Epic.

RE5 has to be my third favorite though. That game is really great. REmake is really good too.

Girls fucking love Resident Evil for some reason. Like 3 of my most recent girls played only one game series, and that was RE. My current girlfriend is always asking me to play RE6 with her haha.

Ultimately though, the answer is always RE4.

The first one.

It established a brilliant formula, it made horror gaming mainstream, and there was nothing like it at the time (unless you count Alone in the Dark, which only bore a visual similarity).

It's also still the scariest and best designed game in the series, I feel.

RE2 is my fav, but it's the nostalgia talking. I just love Claire and Leon, the police station, the introduction of the lickers, the chief of police, Ada...

Though I think most people would say REmake is the best (and you can't really argue against them because it truly is a magnificent game).

I've played 0, REmake, 2 and 4. 2 is easily my favorite and 4 my least favorite. I really need to get around to playing 3 and Code: V.

I think it has to do with the strong female presence
occasionally in skimpy outfits

Resident Evil is the only game to have just as many strong girls as they do guys, even if recently they've been focusing on the guys. A new RE game with Claire would sell gigatons.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Get her a Wii/Wii U/Gamecube and play through the best version of of the best game in the series (REmake)

If you guys own a Wii, you may as well track down Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles. They have stories to tell and gives you an excuse to co-op.

If you could get the resi 0 or RE:remake on psn I would love it.

I've heard they are amazing (a lot in this thread) but never owned a GameCube so I didn't get the chance to experience it first hand.

It's worth picking up a gamecube for like 10 bucks just to play it. I think both Wii and WiiU will play it. Can also emulate it.

You guys should play RE:Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles, it's a lot of fun, especially in co-op!

Plus it may get your girlfriend to want to know more about other RE games since it briefly goes through each RE stories.

Also on the Wii, if you have one or have acess to one.

You need to play the REmake.

Seems like chicks like RE because a) horror, b) cute guys, and c) non-sexualised, modestly-proportioned, capable, cute girls. I'd also throw in appreciation for a series which demands thinking to a degree over pure action, at least with the older titles.

I really should play REmake huh? Wii version or GameCube?

My personal favorite is Resident Evil: Revelations. I like 4 a lot, but the multiplayer and setting in Revelations really resonated with me. Code Veronica is great as well.

In that line of thinking RE0 is probably the best shout, in terms of character.

Gonna have to give another vote for REmake. That was definitely my favourite Resident Evil experience and probably always will be. The mansion is amazingly creepy and full of atmosphere (those prerendered backgrounds still hold up really well).

It has the core RE gameplay just updated in some smart ways (Being able to break out of grabs with taser/daggers, quick turn etc.) I'd really love to see this game get an HD re-release at some point.

3.

You could argue I have nostalgia goggles on, but it was such an incredible game. Nemesis is the best thing Resident Evil ever gave us and just about everything else had such well executed pacing and variance.

REmake and 2 come very close.

RE4 is one of the best games ever in it's own right, but I'm gonna stick with the argument it's not a great RE game, at least from what I'd expect from one.

RE2 is technically my favorite, but if I had to pick an objectively "best" game I'd definitely go with REmake. It's too bad the game never got an HD port so more people could experience it.

Not only is REmake the best game in the series but it also looks incredible even by today's standards.

I had a great time with RE1 and 2, but my favourite in the series is RE4. Thoroughly enjoyed Code Veronica, as well. Have not played any of the other games in the series.

RE2 is the winner! Wait... Kamiya directed this too? What the hell?

RE3 did improve the playability but fell off in other ways. RE2 has the best mixture of environments, great intertwining storylines for the 2 playable characters, etc. It just has that magic feeling for me.

I really wish I still had my Gamecube so I could replay REmake. Damn, that looks good.

Edit: Holy cow, I had no idea there was a Wii release of REmake and RE0. I just bought both of them, rather cheap too. Is Wiimote+nunchuck viable or should I invest in a Classic Controller?

For me, It's a tie between REmake and 4, with 2 very close behind. I've enjoyed pretty much every entry in the series though.

Playing co-op RE5 with my girlfriend - her first time into the series and she loves it! She just purchased RE Revelations for her 3DS, and is gearing up to cosplay as Lady Hunk for Toronto's FanExpo (comic book convention) later this year.

It's my absolute favourite franchise, and RE2 is a master class all on its own. Though, replaying RE5 is reminding me how much fun the combat was, and its story has the best "flow" I find, with a slow build to it's main villains and awesome level design (seriously, the art design is god-tier; from the graffiti in the towns to the tribal areas).

My girl also sat down and watched both CGI RE movies. She liked them better than I did, and I own them! They're great for fans of the series and those who don't mind Japanese-style "soap opera" writing.

REmake is probably the closest to being objectively the best. That game is nearly goddamn perfect.

My favorite is RE1 on PSone, though, because I think the mansion is a more interesting and entertaining setting of the series, yet to be topped. I also like the bosses and enemies the most, as they feel the most in line with the B-horror the tone is going for. Other games have more intimidating or scarier enemies, but I feel Hunters, zombies and dogs fit the best.

Also, you fight a big dumb spider.
