Destiny: Only one area per planet

What's the point? You don't get drops that aren't relevant to your class. Loot is instanced, everybody's is seperate. Loot in Phantasy Star Online was shared. Everybody saw the same drops, and if somebody picked up an item that was great for you but useless to them, tough shit, meseta or gtfo.

Trading in a game like Destiny would just ruin the game. So your friend gives you some high level shit, then what? That raid you needed to complete to get the high level shit, it's no longer necessary. Why even buy the game in that case? To look cool in PvP? You spent $60 on something you didn't even want to play. It's so backwards.

Doesn't the game also have some kind of crafting system? Or at least you're required to pay for items with rare materials. You could send and trade raw materials with friends.

The best gear would be bind-on-pickup or bind-on-equip. Your friends would not be able to send you Epic or Legendary items, but they could definitely help give you a leg up or treat you to a hand-me-down assault rifle with some interesting bonuses.

For a game that is supposed to be social, it's vexing how severely limited social interactions are. Can't talk to anyone that isn't in your party, can't trade or sell items, can't give stuff to friends....is "/dance" the only interaction they decided to take from WoW?

I have to say I am really disappointed in Bungie. After the lackluster PVP shown in the Beta, and now we know that the game is significantly smaller than they would like us to believe, this game is looking kind of shallow.

You know, I have little intention of getting this but many of my friends have put a lot of time and have enjoyed he beta a hell of a lot. And this isn't even close t the full content.

Remember how every type of planet in Star Trek was completely represented by a small area? (Desert planet, jungle planet, etc...)

3354639-map.jpg
Remember how Star Trek aired in the 1960s? And is a TV show, you know, a non-interactive media?

Hardly a useful comparison.

That is DAMN dissapointing. That was one of my biggest questions about the game.....damn. I think my purchase just went from Day 1--->Christmas......only 1 place a planet will probably feel very old after looking at each for a couple days. Also PvP maps won't be plentiful either with this news.

who am I kidding....day 1 still......even though I am still dissappointed.

Not sure what cross gen has to do with game size. Borderlands 2 seems like it has a ton more varied locations than Destiny and that shit plays on Vita level hardware.

again

the game isn't even out

lol

BL2's campaign was a chore because it forced you to complete it 3 times and the enemy AI and variety was a joke. Its a perfect example of how far a great loot system, community, and generally solid gameplay can push a game.

Urk, where art thou? There is damage control to be needed here.

Outside of coming in here and saying "hey guys, just to clear this up, no there is absolutely more than one zone per planet, don't worry", I don't really know what Urk would be able to say tbh.

I'm sure I will still get this. But as a Bungie fan, and for how much time they spent making it, this game seems kind of small when they want you to believe it's some grand epic.

That's what this thread is about. The fact that we now have confirmation that there are 5 planets to explore and Russia was it for one of them and there being only one similar size zone on each of the other 4. We can already estimate the amount of explorable land.

So how many of you had issues with PSO back in the day with only 4 areas too?

Nope, because the loot, the combat system and the social aspect of it..i played like 1500 hours. All lacking in destiny's beta and i'm not expecting to see something pso-like in the final release. So it's kinda hard to compare the 2 games. Besides.. pso is 15 years old.

Have you tried pso 2?

I love BL2 but after the 1st and 2nd playthrough, I could beat the game in 4 hours. Destiny feels a lot more structured than BL2.

I get that but this was just abeta that we played.

I get the feeling this game will be expanding pretty regularly.

I got that feeling, too. Except when they announced the expansions, it changed my assumption about what they meant. I thought it'd be like other online focused games like Warframe where most of the new content is free. But based on their marketing for the expansions, it seems like we'll be dropping $20+ any time we want new missions/loot etc.

I'm not interested in that.

And I remember people saying Alpha had less than 10% of content. Well since I already played through Earth twice, I hope other planets are interesting.

It doesn't sound like they had that at all and instead a Space Ball did all the work for them in a drive-by magicking as it rolled through the Solar System.
Lore, you guys.

Damn, gotta read those grimoire cards. Still when you read the description of the kestrel class ship it says something on the lines of never being built to match the ships in the golden age.

That makes me believe humans had acess to some of the tech the spaceball provided which accelerated their tech by a few centuries.

Hence the inclusion of a plane boneyard (I get its old but that stuff is centuries old) seems off , me wants spaceship boneyard :-D

Took 2 friends and I an hour and a half to complete Moon.

Took me about 10 mins solo on normal. I checked the main areas for goodies too.

By complete the moon I assume you mean walk around worthless landscape doing nothing and shooting the respawning enemies?

Because if not and it took you that long then you are awful at the game.

Where did they confirm the 5th explorable planet?

Are you surprised? It's Activision

I've spent a lot of time exploring Old Russia and there are still plenty areas blocked off in the beta or guarded by lvl 20's. Between the rest of the planets and the multiplayer, I have little doubt I'll get my $60 worth.

There is one story mission per level. So if the lvl cap is 20, then we have 20 missions and around 20 hours of SP content, ignoring the strikes.

I had forgotten they originally wanted you to teleport in from your ship as it flew overhead. That's super lame if they leave that out.

From everything we've seen, it really looks like Destiny is gonna be more focused around life after max than BL2 ever was. BL2 was uphill struggle for a solid part of the game.

You don't, that's what people should have expected. People who expected more underestimate the size and excruciating amount of detail that went into Old Russia's design (something that would be incredibly hard to replicate 10 - 20 times or whatever the hell people wanted).

Personally I thought it was obvious just by looking at the universe map that there would only be around 5 planets. Bungie would really have to go out of their way to hide the idea of there being more areas per planet in the beta, it was never likely. Plus they clearly click on Venus in the extended trailer and it acts the same way it does in the beta; there's no area choice given to the player, it just zooms in and gives you one map of the one area. They were never trying to trick you or subvert expectations, but they do want to surprise you. The problem here happens when people expect a surprise of double or triple the game content, which isn't Bungie's fault.

What I don't expect is to spend 600+ hours on this game like an mmo, because despite its game design that clearly focuses on mmorpg aspects, it's still far from an mmo in its arcitecture.

Nice post. Totally agree.

PSO2 was pretty trash considering all the shit I had to do to play it wasn't really worth it

So it was trash because you need to patch the game, ok.

I wasn't hinting at the QUALITY of the game but at its structure.. which is EXACTLY what bungie told us destiny will be. Even with public and random events during mission (with areas in which you encounter random people playing) and blablabla. Not an MMO but a coop-social-loot thing. Call it what you like.

My point is that I can't play pso 1, today, with 4 areas only like i did 15 years ago. But a game structured like pso 2 (a natural evolution of pso1)... yes.

Everything is procedurally generated. Calm down and actually wait for the game at least.

On topic though...this suddenly makes the game feel smaller to me especially when I'm used to well WoW, GW2 and Planetside 2. I didn't expect much out of a console MMO but still.

What does " didn't expect much from a console MMO" mean? What can a PC MMO do that a console can't? Planet side 2 is coming to PS4 you know?

My biggest gripe with the beta so far is the lack of asthetic diversity. Old Russia has nothing but giant dark factory looking buildings to explore.. The moon had pretty much the exact same thing...

I really hope there is more to it than rusted warehouses.

yes pso2 is really fun, have it installed with the english patch launcher and such.

In fact Destiny reminds me a lot of PSO2 and one reason why I loved playing the beta this week.

And if you were to do that, then it'd still be larger than BL2 pre-DLC - not even counting Vanguard and Crucible play.

This is disappointing to say the least. Yeah I spent 13 hours mostly just exploring Old Russia, but just four of those is 52 hours--add in 20 hours for Iron Banner and the like and that's 70 hours. I spent more than 60 on Dead Rising 3--from a game like Destiny I would expect more.

It's lore consistent tho.

Humanity lost the ability to replicate the golden age technological marvels. The fallen are crawling all over scrounging valuable tech. Just as we are.

The reasonable conclusion is that golden age tech has been vultured and the only remaining ruins are useless pre-golden age vehicles.

I dont know why everyone is tripping. I cleared the earth beta content in maybe 5 hours? And there's alot more content on earth that we haven't seen. So if we get almost 10 hours of content for each planets thats fine by me.

And from what ive seen from the moon, I think its even bigger. I was running around the moon and jkpt seeing something new for 2 hours of walking, AND, at least 4-5 places that were blocked off.

Yes it sucks that old russia is the only placed on earth we'll see (for now) , but im confident that its not the end.
