I know, I just wished that you were able to watch the conclusion.

Some day, maybe, but everything I've heard about that stuff has been one huge load of yeesh.

I'm sorry, Dave Corvo. I'm afraid I can't do that.

If somebody hasn't seen Baccano they're dead to me. Just finished it with friends and the one who hadn't seen it loved it. I love my blu-ray. And that dub with the new yohk accents so they can play children caaaaahd games with a brooklyn accent

Really, if you've already invested a bunch of time into Clannad, do yourself the favor and get to the last third of Afterstory.

I despise Clannad but will say that I consider that last third to be really good. It's like an entire different studio suddenly got ahold of the project.

Do as I did and just skip through the previous episodes (not in their entirety, wouldn't wanna miss potentially important information) if you cannot be bothered with them.

I'd like to say you guys who didn't finish AS are missing out. I mean I was bawling during plenty of scenes, but that's more of me being a little wuss over everything not a comment on the quality. I mean I could start Wolf's Rain or Grave of the Fireflies and I'd be crying before the first 40 minutes.
Grave of the Fireflies didn't make me so much sad as it filled me with despair. It's the antithesis of a feel good movie.

I kind of consider not watching it at all to be doing myself a favor.

Meh, if you've already watched Clannad and started on Afterstory it's definitely worth it imo.

However I wouldn't recommend anyone watching the entirety of Clannad just because I think that last third of Afterstoy is great. That, it surely ain't worth it.

I want to watch the third Madoka movie but I'm not sure I want to go through the television series again. How are the recap movies? I don't just want a refresher of the plot points.

The first and second movies are just the show. I don't remember anything being significantly different in them at all.

Also the third Madoka movie sucked.

So for some bizarre reason I'm right back at the start of the Chimera Ant Arc even though I'd only just finished watching it a couple of months ago. Going back to the start really brings home how far the quality of the adaptation fell by the end because at the beginning the pacing is brisk, the direction is solid and the animation actually looks pretty good.

This episode in particular, Episode 82, is actually one of the best in the entire arc which is kind of crazy when you consider that it has practically no story significance. Why is it so good then? Well, it's well directed, smartly edited and filled with great animation. The three way fight scene in particular looks superb but what's even better is that the facial animation throughout the episode is really good. It's no surprise that the actual director of this episode is also an animator and it shows in the attention to detail that's present here, very few of the traditional shortcuts are taken here. A number of key animators worked on this episode but one of them in particular left his mark with this solid cut: Kazuto Nakazawa http://sakuga.yshi.org/post/show/7165/animated-effects-fighting-hunter_x_hunter_2011-kaz

It's kind of a shame that this short sequence is far more satisfying than some of the more 'important' scenes that happen l later. Of course, if BONES had worked on this series maybe more of the fights could have looked good. Alas.

This was so good, thanks /XX/, my brother loved it too.
Thank YOU for watching! I love seeing it getting the attention that it deserves. :'-)

I wish I had more time but I have to go to college now so I'll keep it short.
It looked more like episodes of a series than a movie, but the animation in the first part in that chase scene was awesome and in the second part we had Admiral show up, I'll give a look on the series later...gotta go fast now...
So good! Uncredited Yasuo 'Mr. Jeep' Ōtsuka work too.

the assault on the castle
when they thought I all of a sudden cared about what every character was doing at every moment. Also the narrator had said 3 words the whole series and all of a sudden he's the top billing cast member.

You don't go from Dragon Ball Z to Game of Thrones for one arc and expect me to be cool with it.

Looking at the runtimes and crunching the numbers, you're right. It would require roughly the same amount of time. Heh.

Didn't bother me, but I read the manga so I was expecting the slowdown.

Kokoro Connect 02

I lik dis.

Overtaken teacher situation was really well done and intriguing. The humor is what you'd hope for with this kind of premise and the darker tones are also getting foreshadowed. Yui's overreaction to Iori living alone... Hope she isn't some rape victim or such, but seems likely :(

Chimera Ant Arc was long as hell, but it was completely solid from start to finish, no weak links anywhere, it's honestly my favorite arc of all time

Yeah, I have a weird relationship with Clannad because of this. Around a quarter of the show is really, really good, and the rest is... not so much. I'd have trouble recommending it to someone even though I really liked After Story once it got good.

I really like that arc but it's definitely got weak links, Yorknew is far more solid but doesn't have the moments Chimera Ant does

I remember being so hyped for that movie and being completely crushed after reading the spoilers.

Well yeah, I can accept why some people like it since it does do some interesting stuff with the characters. But to end it the way it did was just cruel and unnecessary. I really don't like it.

After all the mad shittalking and fierce defending that went on before I saw it I was expecting another Rebuild 3.0 and it wasn't even close to that caliber.
Of awfulness.
Because Rebuild 3.0 is shit.

The Chimera Ant arc in Hunter x Hunter frustrates me a bit. There's so much good in it; great characters and ideas. It's wonderfully disturbing at times. Yet it's so bloated. A lot of stuff really should have been cut out of it to make it better paced. It's still my second favorite arc though, after the Yorknew City arc.

I liked York Shin the most. I generally love the spider, since they actually got a nice interaction with each other than just being some shady organisation with everyone just be a lifeless part of it. I also liked their little part in the Chimera arc, even if it didn't that much to anything.

*snip Log Horizon Impressions*
I know I'll be slipping back into the database this fall.

Hopefully they will be adapting some of the material that will give us a closer look at Akatsukis life and how it has affected her. And yes that excellent world building and interactions with the outside world were easily of my favorite moments. I never realized how that the characters weren't looking to get stronger since they are already there could have such a good effect on the show.

I'll be right there with you in the database!

I don't know if this was posted but Parasyte (Kiseijuu) info:

Studio: Madhouse

Holy shit there's a Parasyte adaption! Now there's something I thought would never get a show. Wonder just how far they will go with it and what might be censored... When is this airing?

I loved it as well and actually liked hearing the narrator explain things because I imagine that was the simplest way to pull it off.

Why does that parasite show give me mad tokyo ghoul vibes? Please tell me the synopsis isn't

"Protagonist was a regular boring student until he was attacked and went into a world of grimdark powers, now he is part of a society secret from the uncool kids

I'll read the synopsis in MAL I guess. It's just giving those vibes.

edit: huh well. At least he doesn't sound like a wimp. Call me somewhat interested but not hyped as it still doesn't sound too interesting.

I actually thought the entire arc lost momentum when
the characters went on a giant training arc just to introduce a bunch of new characters which would then lead to a really slow attack sequence.

I mean, the anime has some real pacing problems during the adaptation but I think a number of problems lie with the original writer, Togashi. I really get the impression that the didn't have any kind of 'game plan' for the arc and it just kind of got out of control, a clear example of that is with Gyro. Gyro gets a huge chunk of time dedicated to his backstory and then is removed from the arc. I'm pretty sure the idea would have been to bring him back in later as an important figure but I guess Togashi changed his mind and now it's just a giant dangling plot thread.

Parastye is from the early 90s lol

Don't think it's really as "edgy" as Tokyo Ghoul. More just weird. Never read it but always wanted to pick up the volumes.

Gyro confuses me as well, but it would seem that all the plot threads are leading to one place and Gyro is at that one place so the final arc is likely to be there.
If it ever happens. Togashi keeps taking weeklong breaks but that's far better then yearlong hiatuses.

There are 2 types of people in the world , those who enjoyed the narrator in the chimera arc in hxh , and those who didn't.

I loved it

This is most likely the case. Togashi took at least two, probably more long ass breaks during the Chimera arc. I mean, the arc began in 2003 and ended what, 2009, 2010? He probably forgot was he had planned, not everyone got Oda's memory.

Senki Zesshou Symphogear: 02

So, we get a little information about the Hibiki's new powers, and some backstory for Tsubasa. Kinda deep, actually, to be honest. More than I was expecting. Plus, at the end of the episode,
we've got a slightly unexpected cliffhanger of Tsubasa about to fight Hibiki, likely feeling like Hibiki was somewhat responsible for Kanade's death.

Kokoro Connect 03

Phew, only attempted rape.

That said, I gotta drop this show. I mean there's suspension of disbelief and then there's a male character basically kicking his own body in the balls, not only inflicting unbearable pain to the other person but also risking to experience it himself when getting swapped back AND... dude. You don't want to potentially damage your fricking balls. Just... what the hell... A poke would've been a good enough pain indication!!!

Oh well, maybe he's just too well intended and short sighted in the moment... The basic idea was great!

And weeeeeeee, what a cliffhanger for episode 4.

Hmm, that link appears to be broken. It leads to a page that doesn't exist.

Yup. Doesn't exist at all.

Silly! Dont make me show you my E7AO blurays

tamerlane's 2001 post (which I wrote a huge response to and then the internet ate it when I hit post :( ) inspired me to revisit a film I last saw probably over ten years ago and has probably escaped most people's attention (unjustly, I should say) - Studio 4C's Princess Arete.

In short, it's a medieval fantasy about a clever princess locked in her castle tower until she can be married off to her father's chosen suitor, and her eventual triumph over the fearsome immortal sorcerer who imprisons her in his own castle. More importantly, the film is about the power of human creativity and imagination.

My understanding is that the story is heavily changed from the original fairy tale (see this paper, which I read a few years ago, for more detail, although be wary of spoilers) although that's hardly to its detriment as it treats all characters fairly and intriguingly. It's a fairly simple fairy tale but a pleasant and entertaining story nonetheless; the middle third drags a bit in my opinion as it's a little excessively reflective and docile in pacing, which is understandable given plot events but not as entertaining as the rest of the film.

The visual design of the film is true medieval European fantasy - monarchies, peasants in tunics etc. Much of the film takes place in castles and the sense of scale is conjured well - the film uses several "crane" shots to heighten the imprisonment and isolation of Arete in her various forms of captivity, and I've picked out two here in particular.

The animation is fluid and characterful, with character designs that look like an illustration. While the art and scale isn't as eye-popping as a Ghibli film it has a lovely storybook feel to it and there are some particularly impressive moments towards the end of the film in particular, I would also be remiss in leaving out the work on various items of "art" in the film - there are tapestries with each individual thread drawn in, and beautifully illuminated books that the characters read, for instance.

I liked the film when I first saw it but not as much as I did on revisiting it. I expected something different from it at the time - all I knew was it was a "feminist fairy tale" and having grown up on hand-me-down young adult fantasy novels by the likes of Tamora Pierce I expected some kind of ass kicking woman in a man's world type story, which is emphatically not the case here. I appreciate its quieter charms now, in particular how impressive the opening section of the film is - Arete barely speaks for the first 15 minutes and yet her character is established perfectly by her actions, only for it to be completely reinforced by the scene which follows in which she quietly deflates the braggadacio of a would-be suitor with earnestness and intelligence, rather than a quip or a kick.

I don't know if I'd agree with tamerlane that it's better than Spirited Away, which I have also not seen for many years. I'm not an enormous fan of Miyazaki's films but I did like that one, so I should probably revisit it.

Anyway, if you haven't seen it - you should! It's a good film!

I certainly might if its by Studio 4C. I practically worship them.

Corvo is no fun when he's calm and collected. Somebody call his favorite anime shit.

Lol no thats not necessary but I do kinda miss his loveable ranting.
Corvy kun is so huggable!

Coincidentally I saw some comment on reddit an hour ago mentioning Miyuki Sawashiro as one of the best voice actors. Now I know who she is and yeh, that's a good voice and her voice acting ability seems good so far.

She is. Its true. I cant really think of a role she did that I dont like.

Oh shit, right, how could I forgot Yozakura Quartet! Watch that too!

Haven't seen Galaxy Angel yet.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeee Watch Galaxy angelllllllll
Its so cutiedorable and hilarious and theres soooo much of it to watch!
Watch series one and A, AA, S, X, and Z and fuuuuuuuuuck Rune!

Just because the dog has a top hat doesn't mean I'm bri'ish.

I wasn't encouraging. Just a nod at how weird it was for me to see such a calm response when somebody called him out I guess. Or what looked like it, didn't see the entire conversation.

You are colombian and I dont remember if I ever asked you what you think of the movie Colombiana

Galaxy angel is highly recommanded as it is a good comedy anime.

AVOID the >RUNE< season however

Yes Rune was a failure by GA standards so avoid it!
