Since this thread has become an AC plot thread essentially... remember at the end of brotherhood when Juno told Desmond to find Eve?

The fuck happened to that plot point?

How about what the hell happened to any of the plot points that Clay/Subject 16 was rambling on about in AC2&Brotherhood only to be dropped in ACR?

"Fuck it all!" - Ubisoft 2011

Yeah it fucking sucks Connor is getting the shaft because people didn't like him.

It makes me wonder how Altair's character was received when the first game came out.
Is AC: Liberation any good? I'm in the mood for some AC and it's the only one I haven't played.

Yes, it's good, and if you're in the mood for AC it will definitely scratch that itch really well.

heard it's mediocre. everyone told me to play the HD remaster over the Vita one because of controls and framerate. i might just play my Vita copy first and see if it's really that bad technically.

The fact they keep dropping plot points in AC is so fucking frustrating. Just make it like Zelda and have a timeline without some thing trying to connect all the games together.

They would be so much better without the animus or the modern day stuff.

It stinks because I actually really like the modern day stuff, but even that deteriorated by Brotherhood's ending and made worse by Revelations (actually, you can even say it started going down the shitter with ACII's ending with the start of the whole "end of the world" plot). After that it's just a mess. I liked ACIV's take on it, feeling removed was a nice change of pace, but I'm incredibly intrigued by what Unity will do for sure.

It's really not that bad on Vita. I beat it there and the only complaint I had is the length and the story. It felt like there was parts missing in the story, events would just happen and I was left confused as to what just happened... The ending was fun tho.

Legitimately excited for Unity. I felt burned by 3 so bad I still haven't even played Black Flag yet despite the praise it received. But everything I've seen and heard about Unity has been great so far, so I remain very hopeful for it.

I'm also glad they are going back to Europe. It will be nice to have proper cities again. Everything was just too sparse in 3, even more so with Black Flag.

It's frustrating I know and its 100% because after Brotherhood and mega fame they really didn't know what to do with the metastory and they fucked up. However AC3 presented the chance for a soft reboot and so far so good imo. I'll give them the chance to make it work better.

So after Unity and Rouge, the russian dude is next?

Doubtful unless they pull a Halo Reach level retcon. His story has been told and finished and has had its influence on the series.

Hopefully no more auto-fail also means less tailing missions in general. I'm playing through AC4 now and enjoying it but like 80 percent of every mission has you slowly follow some people. Every time I think to myself: who actually thinks this is fun? Apparently everyone on the team does or something because it's not one or two but a ton of missions.

It also makes the plot harder to follow for me, because my brain can't listen to a conversation while I have to use full capacity apparently to plan my route/not be seen/improvise when controls fail. Annoying and confusing.

Am looking forward to Unity though. I think/hope the stealth-button will make a lot of difference.

Also I kind of enjoy the future conspiracy-storyline thing. Don't mind that they keep it, if they do.

All I really wanted was for the game to go deeper with the Adam and Eve stuff, with possibly even a playable Eden part.

All those little puzzles and then the 'truth' video were some of my favourite parts of the series but after they ignored them they even went and fucked up the Desmond stuff too by completely ruining his story and giving him a shit ending and depriving me of the 'current day' Desmond game the first games were all leading up to.

"Hey desmond we need you to learn all the ancestor skills and abilities so we can stop the Templars/Abstergo evil plans to enslave the world using pieces of Eden"

Cue some short platform sequences and watch him touch a giant ball of death.

Fuck you Ubisoft. Yes, I'm still salty.

Jesus, mechanic-wise all of Ubisofts games are slowly but surely converging into a single entity.
All of their franchises keep getting the more of the defining features from their other franchises.

I'm actually really excited for this one. I think the premise of Rogue sounds more interesting but I can't ignore the updates in this one. Will probably buy both :3
It makes me wonder how Altair's character was received when the first game came out.
But Altaïr wasn't boring. He actually had character progression and a personality that wasn't renascent of a pile of stones.

Though admittedly ACIII being the mess that it is certainly didn't help people come around to Connor either.

Aa, this and Rayman are the only Ubisoft franchises I play. Which of other games' defining feature are they implementing into this?

I think Connor would be better received if he's not so intense all the time. It gets exhausting sometimes. I like his "downtime" self during the Homestead missions.

I liked how he is. I liked that he didn't let anyone weasel out of anything and call their asses out on their bullshit. One of the best things about Connor is the perspective he offers us. The game could've easily been about some colonial dude who knows he has to fight for freedom without question and gets it in the end. Here, we have a hardened guy who continues to lose everything.

Plus, he had a mouth at times. (Haytham sequence).

Homestead missions were fantasic for expanding Connor's character more. They're easily my favorite missions in the game as he builds his own little America and helps people get married lol.

Agree, Homestead missions in ACIII were awesome. It was really well done. Shame the rest of the game's story was so shitty.

Was reading through the new GI magazine and their story on AC Unity and it added some things I didn't know, so I figured a recap thread might be good. Mods, lock if not allowed.

  • Been in development since 2010. After Brotherhood a team broke off and started on Unity.
  • Skill leveling is in, and you can choose to drop points in stealth, combat, or navigation. You could potentially make a tank who is awesome at fighting, or a better stealth player.
  • You can now customize your legs, boots, forearms, chest, hood, and mask. And the armor/clothing has attributes like a hood that makes you blend faster in crowds and a belt that allows you to hold more items.
  • Co-op missions can be done solo as well and have multiple difficulties. You can also explore the whole world in co-op
  • They realized that with the multiplayer in the last games they were essentially making two separate games, and they didn't want to do that. They noted that people buy the game for the campaign and the added-on multiplayer wasn't the same experience, so they went back to the drawing board to get co-op in.
  • They are using a similar technique as Watch Dogs for co-op, in your game you are always Arno, and everyone else looks like other brotherhood members, but in their game they are Arno and you look like a brotherhood member (like how you are always Aiden in Watch Dogs).
  • NO MORE AUTO-FAIL MISSIONS! The missions now adapt to what happens when you play and don't follow any script. There will be changes and consequences for how you handle missions, but no longer will you get desynchronized for being spotted.
  • You use the new rapid descend ability from buildings by hitting RT + B. Haystacks still exist, but they found you don't use them near as often now.
  • The interiors really open up the game. You can run into a building to hide from guards, but there may be guards inside too. You can also use interiors for assassinations, hiding in windows, etc.
  • You really notice the new 1:1 scale for buildings, and the amount of buildings on the streets seems higher than any of the other games.
  • Stealth mode softens your footsteps, but you still move rapidly. Great for sneaking up on guards.
  • New cover system makes hiding easier and you can now peek.
  • Guards no longer automatically know where you are at all times once alerted, they will now search your last known location which makes it easier to get away and even flank them.
  • Combat is now harder. You may be able to beat 2-3 guys but 5 is too many. You have to pay attention to what weapons enemies have now. "For the first time, we have boss fights that are about parrying at the right time, making sure you dodge, and not spamming the attack button."
  • The NPC groups now react to each other. Thugs may attack you on sight, but guards/police won't unless provoked. Police may go after thugs, which means you can lure thugs to police and watch the police go after them.
  • They are starting a "new cycle" with the present day stuff. "You are the protagonist ultimately." You will understand in the first 20 minutes of the game where they are going with it. It's "cool" and "very, very surprising."
  • There can be up to 30,000 people in a crowd.

There is a lot of good info in the article, go check it out in the new Game Informer.

cool story, bra

It makes me wonder how Altair's character was received when the first game came out.

He wasn't received well. He came across as kind of an arrogant dick in the beginning and, though that was the point of the intro, he has so little character after that it still remains the most memorable thing about him. So basically he was kind of a bland, boring, blank slate who's only real character trait was that he was kind of a dick at one point. People were super happy when it became obvious that Ezio was going to have an actual personality.

All I remember is everyone hated his voice.

His voice in Revelations was much better in my opinion.
Yeah, the VA for the first game was arabic, but they told him not to use his accent. What a waste.

Luckily for the VA in Revelations they didn't hold back.

It was cool to finally see him putting the pieces back together in his head by the end, but yeah, he's a douche and it's essentially his fall from grace story.

Ezio on the other hand, for me, was better in Brohood and Revelations. I dunno why I couldn't get into his character in II.

Yea, fuck ships. It's in Rogue, and should stay there. That boat shit is not welcome.

Ezio is the best Assassin so far, period. Beats everyone else by a mile.
Altair was wood.

Really looking forward to this.

People who claim Connor didn't have character progression didn't play the same game I did. Like what are people talking about? Connor went from a young naive boy with a "good vs evil" worldview, to someone who by the end of the game understands everything he's been led to believe has been total bullshit.

Thank god no. I mean, I liked the ships on ACIV but I dont want AC to be turned into a pirate game. They should do a proper franchise with it imo.

About those infos, that adapting system that no longer let missions "auto-fail" can be by itself a huge improvement to the game.

Ezio really was the best protagonist thus far. I did like Connor, but I felt like Ubi gutted some of the more interesting stuff from his story and screwed around with the pacing, which makes him look worse than he is. Altair's okay too, but he has a terrible VA in the first game, but Revelations has a great capper for his tale. Edward came off as kind of a selfish twat. I can see that they were trying to make him more charming, but I never warmed up to him. Heytham was interesting. Adewale was decent. I haven't played Liberation.

I have high hopes for Arno.

Have they confirmed if they will include a French language option? I'm currently learning the language and this is set in Paris after all.

Let me choose French voice-acting with English subtitles please.

I think if more people played Liberation, they would enjoy Aveline's character. She's not in the same sphere as Connor and Altair.

Ezio is a fucking sociopath. He was good in ACII and Brotherhood, but turned into a psycho during Revelations.

It would be a first for the series if there wasn't an option in the game. I'm 99.9% sure there will be audio language options.

Btw, I think the games have always had really good french VO

Are you talking about the more murderous methods of killing during combat in Revelations? That's pretty easy to understand why. Look at the progression from ACII-Revelations.

In ACII he's a novice, his moves are pretty standard.

In Brotherhood, his moves are much flashier, for example the way he uses his pistol or counters enemies.

In Revelations, the man is tired of it. That's what the game is about in terms of his character progression. He's done it all and is just taking a solo journey to get some questions answered he had lingering for awhile. Combat-wise, it's no wonder he just goes straight for the kill, however brutal it is. Ezio just wants to end it and move on.

But those damn Janissaries.

I love my AssCreed, but I found Liberation HD to be a bore:

LibHD is fairly short for an AssCreed game. After 15 hours I was only a few chapters from the end before I made the mistake of trusting GSM to back up my save. The only reason I haven't made an effort to finish it since is that it's also fairly boring for an AssCreed game -- the setting is architecturally and aesthetically lacking, the world small and sparsely populated, and while the dress/outfit mechanic could have been interesting, Ubi saw fit to hold players' hands by forcing certain outfits during missions instead of leaving it up to player experimentation and designing the missions around this element.

No no no, ezio by far the most annoying characters last gen. The most terrible un-natural accent...ugh and the forced pervey behavior another turn off.

It's not the combat, but his actions.

His selfish acts gets the entire Assassin order in Istanbul killed. He also destroys that cave-city and subsequently kills hundreds if not thousands of people by setting it ablaze. If not dead they're homeless. And for what? To capture one templar who, as it turns out, isn't even the man Ezio was looking for in the first place.

Which is why I really hate Revelations. There's no "revelation" to be found anywhere, and instead a previously smart and capable guy turns into this murderous lunatic.

I loved the boats, it adds that feeling of exploration and adventure. Something Brotherhood and Revelations lacked and II could have done better.

In terms of best Assassins
I
say Kenway is best Assassin, in terms of personality

and Altair best Assassin in terms of most deadly/professional Assassin, as well as the wisest of the bunch

It's been awhile since I played Revelations, but:

His selfish act, did you mean when he gets the clan to help him storm Ahmet? I don't remember the order being wiped out in the game at all. I know some died with Yusuf for Sofia, but nothing specific. The city was rebuilt, though, sure a lot of people probably died, but how was he supposed to know about Ahmet before hand?

But to be fair, he did take out Tarik. Big mistake that he quickly realizes as it's too late. That and utterly fails to assassinate Shahkulu, even in "the white (black?) room" reminiscent of Rodrigo. Plus, he has poor aim in the Forum of Ox mission.

If anything, I'd just chalk it up to his age. Dude was worn out and finally admits it to himself in the first mission going up the water-wheel. Ezio clearly didn't have his head on all the way throughout the game, even before it starts with the intro cinematic with him being distracted by visions of Altair mid-battle.
As for the "Revelation", oh yeah, no argument here. They told us nothing that we didn't already know. Come on. The Lucy stuff should've been that Revelation, or The Truth explained more. And what a waste of Subject 16/Clay. The modern day story was awful and a continuing snowball effect that started with the end of Brotherhood.

I really liked Connor. I think if you don't bother with most of the Homestead stuff, he kind of just comes across as constantly pissed and confrontational, but I played all of them and they really highlight how he is with "normal" people and the "lighter" side of him. The Homestead stuff was probably my favorite part about AC3.

He spends most of the game with hypocrites and liars, calls them out on their bullshit, and then gets criticized for being stubborn and pissy. Like what? Not to mention he's essentially a kid throughout the whole game, and people expect him to be all knowing and perfect. People don't want video game protagonists to be believable, they want perfect persona's they as the player can latch onto in order to fulfill some player fantasy, which Ezio is the embodiment of. It's a shame the storytelling is so disjointed, otherwise I feel Connor would be a more liked character.

Brand new video full of alpha and prototype game footage, apologies if already posted:

Thread worthy? Someone make one

Trigger = Run
Trigger + A = Climb up [parkour up]
Trigger + B = Climb down [parkour down]

So you'll never randomly run up a wall or get stuck on a treebranch or whatever when running ever again. God bless them for fixing an issue that's been an annoyance since the very first game.

Yep. Pretty much. If you really think about the context of his more "pissy" convos/actions they make sense. Considering the people he's talking to, the information he has access to at given times, and his previous experiences, it's no wonder he's so confrontational with them. Once he's put more in a situation where he's not looked down on and tasked with helping regular well meaning/good people just going about their lives, he's about as altruistic as you can get.
