Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

The confusing language is clearly on purpose. The game is a timed exclusive most likely. MS wants the game associated with xbox. sE doesnt want tomb raider to compete directly with uncharted on olaystation platforms so its a win for everyone. MS moneyhats advertising dollars and gets an "exclusive", SE hits the holiday season on xbox and doesnt compete with uncharted on playstaion. Tomb raider later releases on PlayStation. Probably march 2016 or something

Hope the moneyhat pays for the people that will end not buying a copy of the game, I would never support this move by buying a Xbone.

At first I was a little pissed, but then I remembered three things:

1) I thought the reboot was an okay game, that borrowed heavily from a much better game ( Uncharted).

2) Uncharted 4 should be releasing at or around the same time.

3) Sounds like it's timed exclusive. Which means it will likely hit later in spring or summer when I would actually have time to play it.

Sucks balls if you're a die hard and have the inverse feelings about TR and UC. So, sorry disappointed PS4 and PC gamers.

Fine but it has that generic COD style cinematic awesome. There was nothing particularly TOMB RAIDER about it besides Lara and the title.
Come to me crying when Last Guardian or FF XV jumps ship. Those games look and feel unique.

That shanty-town level was such bull. I played the Uncharted soundtrack over it and suddenly it made sense.

I hope this is sarcasm. People are legitimately upset that what should have been a multiplatform game is an exclusive.
I have an Xbox One but I don't want to support this.

Hopefully it's just timed (6 months, 1 year) unless MS do what they did with Titanfall : full blown exclusive.

So... Square Enix is just being an idiot after all. Oh well, nobody can fault Microsoft for securing their own Uncharted. They will be the only ones to reap the benefits of this deal.

Yeah. Cognitive dissonance and all aside. It's a good move on MS, bad move on Square. Unless Square is really wary of Uncharted and is trying to maneuver around U4's release.

This is probably the most investigative journalism from Geoff I've seen in a while.

And good on him, the exclusivity messaging is completely messed up.

Phew! Made it through the entire thread up until this point.

Worst post:

NeoGaf in a nutshell:

PS4 exclusive: "Great move Sony, good on you guys *hugs ps4*

Xbox One exclusive: "Fuck M$$$$$$$, using shitloads of cash again to actually compete in a business world, I'm not buying it! (I own a Xbox One, or at least I'm saying that to seem less biased)."

Post I'm most not sure if it's a joke or not:

Hey Square, go die in a fire you worthless POS company.

Way to make Tomb Raider exclusive to the Xbox One. Scared that you won't meet sales targets without Microsoft's money huh? Fuck you if you think I'm paying for this now after you just shat on your fanbase. That's going to hold up, right? Fucking making this exclusive to the Xbox One despite Tomb Raider's history on the Playstation? You're a bunch of clowns. I take it as a personal insult that you mouthbreathers are allowed to make decisions with regards to how franchises I used to really love are handled. Your asses got bailed out when you purchased Eidos because their president, like all of you, was a complete and utter mook. I make two better executives than your entire company combined in the toilet every morning before I go to work. I look forward to the day that your company crashes and burns into the fucking sea, only to be picked apart as salvage by western iOS developers, at which time the franchises you've already defiled with incompetence and negligence can be finally whored out to smartphones.

That's assuming you asshats don't beat your eventual western smartphone overlords to the punch, which you probably will because you give fuck all about the legacy of these franchises, to say nothing about just how little regard you hold towards the fans who made them what they where.

As the owner of a PS4 please go swallow glass

Never been more appropriate ;) It's a joke if people didn't catch on btw.

50% of their user base? I bet ps4/ps3/pc is closer to 75%

Making safe estimates based on what was posted earlier (units sold). I've already embarrassed myself with shit math, so just trying to keep myself in check lol. But whether it's 50% or higher, my point still stands.

Translation: Microsoft paid us a bunch of money and we don't have to compete on PS4 against Uncharted 4, we'll release RotTR elsewhere when it makes the most financial sense for us.

Great get for Microsoft, but is Tomb Raider a system seller?

Not buying it (the language that is). Game is coming out on PS4, probably spring 2016. MS is spinning it with the 'holiday 2015' line. Square is going to welcome the fans feedback, and then can later say "We listened to you, and delivered what you asked for with whatever DLC and upgrades come with being on Sony hardware."

Its a long way til Holiday 2015. Too many loose lips to keep that secret. MS gets the 'megaton' and a lineup to compete in 2015...and Square gets money up front and probably doesn't lose any sales when they ultimately launch on PS4.

Yeah, after this all shakes out, I would assume timed exclusive. But if it's like Dead Rising 3, it's only coming to PC. I can't see that though.

But oh my god Microsoft/Crystal Dynamics, you could not have made a bigger mess of this.

How can people be mad at MS? They're incredibly behind on the console war and they needed to do something to help them to catch up.

XB1 owners will probably be thrilled.

It does suck for PC/PS4/PS3 owners, but you can't blame MS for this move. It's a good move, at least on paper.

Why would MS fans be thrilled? "You know that game you were getting, you're still getting it". I really don't mind exclusives but when you wait this late to make a deal, after the game has been announced for other systems it is pretty hard not to see it as Microsoft taking the game away from PlayStation/ PC players. If you only have one system and you were looking forward to TR Microsoft just screwed you over. Obviously they did it for the reasons anyone would want a game to be exclusive, and I don't blame them for wanting to be exclusive, but figure that out before you reveal the game. At least with TF they were vague enough that they could pretend it was never coming to PS4.

MS publishing suggests complete exclusive

'exclusive for Holiday 2015' suggests timed exclusive

Maybe CD did a deal with MS to finance the game, giving them publishing rights on Xbox and a timed exclusivity window - and then can opt for self-publishing on PS4/PC after a few months? At least from a development point of view it shouldn't cost them much to port to PC/PS4 (PS3 might be too high a cost), and if MS are allowing them to retain their IP like with Sunset Overdrive/Ryse, then that might be an option for them?

MS also published Dead Rising 3

If it's not a timed exclusive, then Greenberg or someone like him ought to be able to post the same "exclusive for the lifetime of the title" phrase that eventually applied to Titanfall. If they refuse to say that, then it's just a timed exclusive. Tweet at them, folks.

Let the tears flow....this thing is full on exclusive

Edit- This is business. Square/Crystal is hemorrhaging money. They need the cash infusion. Its as simple as that. Just look at how Crytek is doing. You don't want the game don't buy it.

Plot twist!

Good god, as someone who works in marketing/communications, this is terrible messaging. Pull it together, MS. Say what is actually going on.

The confusion is probably on purpose. They want people to think Xbox when they talk about this new Tomb Raider. Even if it is timed exclusive, they don't want PS4 in the discussion at all.

This seems relevant again somehow:

I don't know how much the rest of you know about gaming culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Hollywood where you can become successful by being an ***hole. If you screw someone over in gaming, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the PlayStation public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Rise of the Tomb Raider for Xbox One, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and announce Rise of the Tomb Raider for PS4 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

lol, this post is just fanboy drivel.

Edit: am I not supposed to say that? Sorry.

This logic just seems ridiculous to me. These business wide boycotts never happen just because a publisher releases a game exclusively to another console. It's a fantasy situation. The world will go on.
