Geoff full of shit again.

Why? He's the only one trying to get answers.

Is Greenberg deliberately trying to be obtuse on Twitter so that some people may think this is a full-on exclusive when it's actually just timed? Really?

Pretty low, why don't he just clarify it in one tweet, we'll find out soon anyway.

Holy shit this is a big get for Xbox... pretty disappointed because I liked the original game too.

I thought id be safe with a PS4 and PC.

Just stop. No one needs that drivel. There's no salt; its a discussion on the bizarre choice by SE to alienate millions of potential customers simply because MS threw a lot of money in their direction.

Sure there is a discussion on the bizarre nature of this announcement, but to say there's no salt? are we reading the same thread? get real.

Is it so hard just to announce the publisher? Are you really worried about us finding about that it is a timed exclusive? Seriously MS, just be honest is all I ask.
People got over Bayonetta 2 as well.

“Rise of the Tomb Raider” (Crystal Dynamics).

Microsoft Studios is removed...
So they are self-publishing then. They only had to say it.

Mass Effect came out 5 years down the road on PS3. At that point, most of the sales have been done. I wouldn't be surprised if EA had to buy back the rights or something to release ME on the PS3.

EA bought Bioware (who were independent at the time and owned all their IP's) after ME released, hence why ME was initially exclusive. EA got control as soon as Bioware signed up.

I hope this is sarcasm. People are legitimately upset that what should have been a multiplatform game is an exclusive.
I have an Xbox One but I don't want to support this.

Hopefully it's just timed (6 months, 1 year) unless MS do what they did with Titanfall : full blown exclusive.

That aspect I understand. The sequel to a previously multi-platform game being bought out secretly by a big producer and then being condescending in your response to the community. Regardless of what game it is, that's pretty bad.

However, it's still Tomb Raider of all things.

Then again, screeching and shouting seems to be the only way to get Microsoft's attention, so continue I guess?

This. It's subliminal at best. Some people don't try to hide it.

To tell you the truth, MS isn't the one to blame here. They are doing what they can to secure content. That's what they have to do. It's the business.

Square on the other hand, for them is really is just business and they didn't care how much money their fans spent over the years on this franchise. They just handed it out like candy instead of seeking alternative. That sad man. It's like they don't even have faith in their own fanbase for this game to sell. The fact that many of them bought the remaster is telling.

They share some of the blame. They knew exactly what securing this title would do (ie. cutting out the majority of the franchise's fan base to a series that was already established). MS has had a spotty record in the past with this sort of thing as well.

I can understand the "it's just business" argument. You guys are right, it is. But these companies have to live with this industry and it's consumers. And these kind of tactics really fucks people over and sours things. MS can do plenty of things to sell their systems, and they choose to do these sort of things. I don't get how this is a "thrill" for X1 owners. A thrill, knowing that the majority of a franchise's fans might not get to experience the sequel to a series they started? What kind of people get thrilled about that.

Would be like cutting off people half way into Game of Thrones and telling them to pay up $500 if they want access to the last 5 seasons. Fuck that.

I get what you're saying, but we need to be open here and simply state that Tomb Raider has always been a multiplatform game.

It was actually announced/initially developed as a Saturn game. But I believe the PS version ended up being released first, still.

wouldn't really be great for sales of they announced it was a timed exclusive before release

Ya'll throwing shade at Keighley need to fucking get lost. He's trying to get more details, chill out.

Well, CD is the publisher of course. Since MS isn't publishing it, Square still is. They are obviously very worried about people finding out it's timed, hence the very specific wording.

If its a timed exclusive, the real problem is on the wording MS chose. Timed exclusivity deals should be referred as 'first on'. Otherwise is deceiving the consumer.

Aaron "you see all games in 1080p" Greenberg's statements don't exactly inspire confidence.

Also see:

This is the same guy that said up scaled 1080p and native were the same. And lol at your second sentence.

Different things. One was something that can be obfuscated to a degree. Could be called his opinion (though it isn't something you can have a meaningful opinion about) but the other thing is something that either is or isn't...don't see how he could get away with lying.

Keeping the details behind the exclusivity deal in secret can only mean that it's timed.

Can someone explain the term money hat?
It can be a bit capricious in application but it essentially refers to when a certain company otherwise not involved pays a large amount of money to restrict the release of a game on other platforms. They aren't involved in developing it only paying for it to not appear on other platforms. Don't know the etymology of the phrase, however.
