Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

so, this is timed or full exclusive?

this sure sounds like a full exclusive to me...

Tomb Raider was multiplatform franchise until now.

when is the last time you played the first game in a series on a platform. Then the sequel was not available to you?

a well known multiplatform series just went exclusive?

So was Splinter Cell... and I didn't see the outrage when Conviction was announced to be exclusive to the 360.

Seriously, what is the big deal. If you want to play it so badly, then just get an Xbox One. Exactly what Microsoft wished for when it entered into this agreement with Square Enix.

That's all I can think of too. Probably MS convinced Enix that they won't sell if they're going against Uncharted so they made it exclusive (timed?).

I personally am not phased by this news. I don't care who moneyhats who. If its interesting and if I ever get to own XBO then I'll get it. At this point I hate the fact that we have silly traditions where they announce preorder bonuses before they show the audience any gameplay footage.

Good show, MS/Enix. Enjoy the ride.

That wouldn't make sense though.

"Hey SE, you're game is going to get demolished by UC, so how about you make it exclusive to the system with the lowest sales, that oughta help"

I don't think it would work like that.

It should be noted in this thread, were some fanboys expect this game to be released on another platform 6 months later (lol, you are in for a huge disappointment), that every 3rd party exclusive is a timed exclusive; if they wanted an exclusive game forever, MSFT would need to buy the franchise. Even REMake, which was a Nintendo locked exclusive, and those guys know how to lock a game, is coming now to other platforms.

The point is that it will probably remain exclusive for at least 3 years; could release on PC before, but this is what an exclusive is, sorry to break reality on you.

And this is not a new move, and every platform holder has done this before. Remember when Soul Calibur 3 was a PS2 exclusive, even though SC2 sold best on the GCN? Same exact thing.

Now, stop the salty tears.

Yea I do think it's a bit complex otherwise there wouldn't be so much confusion over something as simple as who is publishing. That said, Microsoft might be trying to do their usual PR speak and is just fucking up spectacularly in this case.

I'm curious to know what the square enix mindset was for this move. They complained about tr reboot sales then make a deal for an exclusive on a user base that will be significantly smaller by fall 2015. This has to be a pure cash grab by them to ensure they make their money back. In terms of franchise growth move this move makes zero sense. Feel bad for crystal dynamics. They just got screwed by their own publisher.

Even if it is only time I don't see the game making up lost sales on ps4 and PC. Rarely do games released later on other platforms so great numbers.

It's that kind of double speak that makes Microsoft PR look so obnoxious. So he's just correcting semantics without actually addressing his point.

Or play it on a 360...they aren't even forcing you to go to this gen. God this thread is delivering the goods

This doesn't mean that we're walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.

I find it astonishing how mad people are about this.

Guaranteed if this announcement was the other way around, people would be dancing in the streets and laughing at XBO owners.

The issue is that the reboot was multiplatform, coupled with the fact that we got the Definitive edition not too long ago. It just feels right out of left field, I can't say that anyone saw this coming. Also, add that TR has always been multiplatform.

It has always seemed to me that with these announcements, they don't use words like that because they want you to think of it as exclusive and not timed exclusive. This is business as usual.

I do understand that, but wouldn't you agree that we as consumers should be able to know what product are we buying? If tis a all-time exclusive then is fine, I don't like it but well can't have it all. My problem is that, as part of their marketing strategy, they are using an extremely deceptive word.

Can someone explain to me why has this thread exploded to nearly 60 pages in a few hours?

What is so important/controversial about it? We've seen many developers reach some kind of exclusivity agreement with console manufacturers in the past - why is this one so controversial?

Because Tomb Raider games has historically been a multiplatform games. It's franchise that is older than Xbox itself.

System seller right there. With Halo, and TR exclusively coming to Xbox One, I think it's time to buy the system. Fucking genius move, MS.

Well, bit of a shame as a PS4 owner, but can't hate Microsoft for it. They need exclusives like this to prop the systems desirability. Not like PS4 fans won't have Uncharted 4 in the mean time.

Agreed, Microsoft has no blame for this, if people want to blame someone, blame SE.

Man, all those threads where I argued in defense of this game and was excited about the sequel. I even got my tag because I was excited about this game, but now I can't play it. Pretty much one of the only games out of E3 this year that I was looking forward to.

This industry lol.

I would wait a year to see if it pulls a Ryse / Titanfall / Dead Rising 3 type of exclusivity if I were you. It seems like MS is making the same sort of timed exclusivity deals across multiple companies.

At the very least the Salty posts have reason to be. There's no reason to celebrate this unless you're a fanboy, plain and simple.

Case in point

Some of it is salt, the rest is just "Why?"
I wonder how much MS paid for the exclusivity of a game that made only 2 million on their platform? Probably 8 digits. I can believe the $400 million loss more and more because MS has been striking out on the exclusive deals.

Croft went from the boat to an inflatable raft because the guy on it paid her a premium for it.

I would assume SE and Capcom would be the most open and cheapest to score exclusivity at this point. I hardly doubt this even stays exclusive regardless.

1 year exclusivity at most. That's the standard Microsoft exclusivity deal.

As stated before, I don't really have a dog in this fight, but can people just stop posting about "if it were Sony" nonsense? As I read through the thread, a great deal of the butthurt and salt stems from the fact that the franchise has always been primarily PC/PS. And this is the first home console game that will miss both.

No shit people would be less upset, if it were the other way around. Less of the audience would be left out, in that scenario. Add to it the fact that the game was already announced as a multiplat, and not as a funded, MS published, sequel.
