Hey everyone!

I feel like too many people are ignoring/skipping over this. DLC is pretty much our only chance of additional characters:

Rating process as defined by ESRB:

Along with the written submission materials, publishers must provide a DVD that captures all pertinent content. This includes typical gameplay, missions, and cutscenes, along with the most extreme instances of content across all relevant categories including but not limited to violence, language, sex, controlled substances and gambling. Pertinent content that is not playable (i.e., "locked out") but will exist in the game code on the final game disc must also be disclosed.

Once the submission is checked by ESRB for completeness, which may also involve ESRB staff members playing a beta or alpha version of the game, the video footage is reviewed by at least three specially trained game raters. ESRB raters must be adults and typically have experience with children, whether through prior work experience, education or through being parents or caregivers themselves.

When the game is ready for release to the public, publishers send copies of the final product to the ESRB. The game packaging is reviewed to make sure the rating information is displayed accurately and in accordance with ESRB requirements. Additionally, ESRB staff, including raters (time permitting), play-test the final version of a variety of games - including but not limited to games which generate consumer inquiries to ESRB and those which receive broad consumer exposure - to verify that all the materials provided by the games' publishers during the rating process were accurate and complete.

Downloadable Content
Downloadable content (DLC) that will be appended to an existing, previously-rated product need only be submitted to ESRB for rating if its content exceeds that which is in the existing "core" product. Otherwise, the rating assigned to the core product is applicable to the DLC as well. Where, however, DLC content exceeds the rating assigned to the core product, it must be submitted to ESRB and a different rating will be associated with this DLC.

If this was an E3 ratings video, the roster is final.

If it's footage from one of the three or more playtesters, it may not be final... but this is unlikely.

Aren't they each quite different compared to the Ice Climbers though.

Rosalina and Luma are more or less one character that splits to attack?

Olimar and his Pikmin are essentially like any other character using an item they pick up to attack.

Duck Hunt Dog probably will be the same as one of those two (Is there any footage of him fighting?).

Whereas Ice Climbers correct me if i'm wrong are technically 2 characters, 1 player controlled and 1 with basic AI to mirror the player controlled one.

Why is why I mentioned that they aren't exactly the, but they have something similar going for them.

Rosalina & Luma, both have that similar trait to Ice Climbers, as where they both attack together.

Olimar & Pikmin, basically mentioning how there is 4 things on screen, but adding 3 other players. Welp.

There is no footage of Duck Hunt. Sadly.

Guess I'm the only one whose underwhelmed by the roster. I only have interest in playing. Bowser Jr, and Greninja. Don't care for anyone else.

I got 0 characters I wanted in, and that fucking sucks.

I feel you, dude. Out of all the newcomers, I'm really only interested in Robin, and got nobody I wanted in either.

And one of those was just a Ganondorf that wasn't a clone.

On top of the supposed Snake and Wolf cuts, I'm a very sad panda.

Oh well, I guess I still like Ike.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank the leaker, you're awesome for doing this. Nintendo is just taking far too long for my likings with that 3ds smash direct. What you(the leaker) has provided us with is far more than I think nintendo would've even given us when they do decide to do the Direct. So thank you, you made me more hyped for the game :) Also, pls, Mewtwo.

I agree with this.

I will happily speak to any mods and give more information in private. I have caps of the exchange with said person.

Okay then, I was jokingly saying that b/c usually 'insider info' by a person not generally known as an insider is followed by a Bish post to the extent of "Check your PMs"

If this was from the DVD, then it doesn't have to be the full roster since all they're looking for is pertinent information. If this came from any type of test build, then it's over beyond DLC.

I guess the loophole people will tell you is that it says 'pertinent content', not all content. So if the last few characters aren't offensive, then they wouldn't have to be in the video.

Though I would think that's an important factor in 'typical gameplay' and would be included.

I'm not sure that's what that bit means. I think it's to cover their ass in terms of hot coffee style stuff. So it's saying if you programmed in nude mods or a sex scene and then decided to make it inaccessible in game you still have to inform them. Unlockable characters wouldn't need to be shown unless they're naked or gambling or violent. So it MIGHT be a Snake deconfirm but there's nothing offensive about say Ice Climbers or Wolf.

Is every character pertinent? Unless they have any extra-violent attacks, would the ESRB need to see them?

Why's everyone acting like this is it? The All-Star image proves otherwise.

Until the game is in my hands or sakurai/picture/video leaks prove otherwise, I'm not discounting the black space on the roster.

Not saying it confirms we have more characters, but it leaves room for the possibility.

Years of work / lives and an entire development team as well as a marketing team that want to communicate info on their schedule and not other people's? Can you imagine Sakurai right now?

That said, this info would have all leaked in about 3 weeks time anyway, so that is something.

How does it hurt the development team? They made the game, their wages are getting paid.

Does a man really deserve to get his life ruined by a giant corporation (Who has a history of antitrust and monopolization charges against it. Why root for Goliath?) because he is excited to share information to people, like those in this thread, who eat it up at his expense? Is he profitting at all?

Like you said, the game is coming out in a couple weeks. Marketing isn't harmed. None of this is even confirmed. I bet the marketing team will still update the website and Miiverse just as planned. I can imagine Sakurai is a bit perturbed, but if it's enough to want to go after some nameless employee and sue him for more than he's worth? He can get over it.

Leakers are good shit in my book. For both the consumer and in this case, Nintendo. It's amazing free marketing, judging by the enormity of the response to this thread and throughout the internet.

I have a source that has just informed me that Nintendo have identified the leaker. He has been fired and is being sued. He does not work at ESRB itself. He was an employee of NoA, who was sending materials to the ESRB. This is a completely internal leak.

The leaker, despite having been fired, still has a copy of the Smash Bros 3DS game in his possession; as well as one of the 3DS systems used for internal ratings. Nintendo has yet to seize these from him. It's a copy of the final build of the game.

If there is more to be unlocked in the game, such as new characters, it is possible we'll see more from him (if he still cares to share it); given that he still has it.
Curious to see if this is true.

Regardless, the first thing that comes to my mind is "was it worth it?".

Well Zero Suit Samus' new costumes look like something the ESRB would have wanted to see so it is still likely this is an old build thus some things may have not be in a suitable state to show. Cut content is not the same as incomplete content.

Why does everyone act like that proves anything? The ESRB reel seems to be a collection of unrelated clips, not one continuous segment of menus and gameplay.

It's not hard to take a screen shot of a locked All Star mode and then later take a shot of the full CSS.

Seriously? I mean, the leak IS exciting, but... I can't help wish everything was kept secret. Imagine the reactions and such when a Duck Hunt Dog trailer was revealed, all in the moment, with no trickle of leaks beforehand. And now it won't even have confirmation excitement, it'll just be, "oh, cool trailer!"

Personally I was hoping Ganondorf was getting a revamp like Bowser. So I pretty much am hindering on the footage being a early non-final build. Otherwise Bowser looks like the only viable candidate on the character I will be playing the most. The Ganondorf we are getting is yet again Ganondorf in name only.

If true, he'll no doubt resurface on 4chan.

Well he broke contract just to get some internet points. So any punishment he gets is on him.
Anonymous internet points. So in the end the credit isn't even tied to a name.

I mean I could be the the rather vile leaker for all you know. We can all be anonymous on 4chan.

I'm not the least bit bothered by leaks, but you're wrong lol. This does harm Nintendo's marketing in a rather drastic way. Being able to control the time and manner of certain information distribution is key in maintaining hype and interest in a game. There are plenty of people who might care less about a Bowser Jr. reveal video two weeks down the line now that they already know he's in the game. That's just a minor example too.

Bottom line is if this guy entered into an agreement to not disclose this shit and he did, then he fully deserve any legal action taken against him.

Could the guy get into more trouble if he continued to leak? Or would it not make a difference because the damage was already done?

I think that costume would be in the ESRB footage for sure, but what's too say we have everything from it? We can only confirm what is there, not what isn't. Especially something that's old information, the leaker probably wouldn't go out of the way to show off a picture of it.

But I did find it odd that among all the risque trophy shots there were no in game pics of upskirts etc shared at all.

i agree 200%, I love leakers. Thank you leakers, you make things more exciting or sometimes you embrace me for the disappointment that is ahead.

Alright guys, obviously anything could change, but if this is indeed our final list of newcomers:

srouvc.png

How do you feel Smash 4 did with it's newcomer selection? I made this picture so you try and think of the newcomers as a whole, not just the ones leaked.

Me personally? A few missed opportunities aside, fucking stoked. 15 new fighters is nothing to scoff regardless of clones, and you could even bump that number to 17 if you count the Mii Fighter as 3 different characters.

I really don't know how to sum up my feelings about this roster. Do I think it is a good roster? Definitely, it has some of the most diverse characters we have ever seen in Smash Bros. and I think we are all in for an awesome time when the game launches. In terms of my personal favorites though, I think Brawl had a more pleasing roster overall just in terms of sheer character numbers and picks. I've come to actually be pretty excited for characters that I didn't care to see prior to this game's announcement but there are still some that I'm tepid towards.

What we got today is enough to hold until the game releases in a couple of weeks.

I am not bothered at all and actually prefer the full roster be revealed already.

Now if this was a story focused game, then that would be different.

They're probably less pissed off about text-based leaks and more at image/video ones like this one meaning the remaining CGI newcomer trailers they spent a ton of money and time on are going to be anti-climatic as fuck.

It's also not hard to take a screenshot of the incomplete CSS. If all star mode wasn't unlocked in the video, whose to say everything else was unlocked?
