Sorry if off-topic, but I see comments in this thread so I'm asking the question.

If there were a full-blown non-Mario roster in Mario Kart, what would be the more appropriate name - Nintendo Kart or Smash Kart?

I tend to favor Nintendo Kart, as Smash is referring to a specific brawler beat em up game.

Since Mario Kart is a Big Brand Name

Mario Kart 9: with Friends

Wow, this is a better deal than I was expecting. Between this and NSMBU, Nintendo has really been handling DLC right. Now can we get something more substantial for Pikmin?

So Mario Kart became Smash Kart?

Smash Kart sounds amazing, and imagine all the different tracks you can do with the different Nintendo IPs

So I'm a bit unclear, how many are new and how many are retro tracks?

And what do we have revealed so far?

Skyward Sword
F-Zero
Animal Crossing
ExciteBike

Wario's Goldmine (Wii)
some foresty/wooden track...?

EDIT: WHY AM I ALWAYS A THREAD KILLER???

I honestly wish they had charged more. That is shockingly cheap.

This statement is absolutely ridiculous.

Why would they call it "Smash Cart"? They have decades of brand recognition in Mario Kart, and adding other IPs into the roster does nothing to detract from anything. Keeping the name Mario Kart and adding other characters is a no-brainer.

what the fuck?

anyway, i'm gonna go ahead and get this when I get home. I dont think I'll even give a shit about mario kart next may (I barely cared enough to get it when it came out) but more shy guys for when I DO play seems alright

lmfao

We do not know precisely, people expect that the upper 2 cups will have new tracks and the bottom 2 cups have retro tracks to be consistent with the already-existing cups, but there's nothing on the website that can confirm it. We don't even know if they may start re-using retro tracks that have already been retro'ed since MKDS, or they'll stick to tracks never used before.

So why hasn't Nintendo done a Nintendo Racing game yet? These are cool and if I ever get a Wii U I'd definitely pickup MK 8 now just for these, but with the success of Smash Bros I am shocked we haven't seen a Nintendo Racing game yet.

I agree, Nintendo is shooting themselves in the foot.

I don't know. This price, it really makes it a no-brainer. They may just sell double the amount than if they charged double for it. And with Mario Kart being a system seller, after the free game deal came to an end, this might push the game's momentum.

Are there animal crossing and skyward sword levels? And I think it's 4 new 4 retro each.

So I'd guess most (if not all) of the brand new tracks are from other series then?

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Well I already pre-ordered (bought) the DLC as I am sure many of you have, this deal is too good to pass. Plus I got my Pink Yoshi in a Mercedes-Benz as an extra.

We rolling in style bitches.

There's a shot of the Animal Crossing track in the second DLC pack.

Can't see anything resembling something SS-themed, but you'd expect there to be a Zelda-themed track of sorts.

Thanks! Is that the Zelda track in the bottom right? Seems like a weird place to put it.

Triforce Cup:
- Zelda track
- F-Zero track
- Excitebike track
- ??? (Can't be Animal Crossing since that's for Pack 2)

What could it beeeee?! Metroid? Fire Emblem? Pokémon?

I could definitely see a "GOTY Edition" re-release to coincide with a Wii U price drop next mid to late next year.

That is genius. You know they will do it. Mario Kart 8 GOTY as a free pack-in with Wii-U plus a price drop to $249.99 or $229.99. I think $199 would under cut profits too much, but who knows.

Pokemon would be too smart, that'd be amazing. Uh maybe Star Fox? Metroid seems too heavy for Mario Kart.

Also, does one of the retro tracks being Wario themed already deconfirm Wario Colosseum? :(

I wonder if they are not calling the pack 1 + pack 2 season pack because there are more dlcs incoming. They could release yearly dlcs as far as I'm concerned.

Mario Kart presents
Nintendo 64 Invitational

64 characters
64 tracks
64 music tracks
64 battle arenas
64 items
64 blue shells total...once they're gone...they're gone

Probably something like
"Mario Kart: All Stars"

Hopefully one of the packs has a Kirby-themed track.

If there is an Epona motorcycle all is forgiven. Although, Toon Link in a King of Red Lions kart would have been the bee's kneecaps.

Even without Toon Link, the King of Red Lions kart needs to happen. lol

I feel like Nintendo did this DLC right. I'm not one to always buy DLC or even a "fan" of DLC in general but, damn, this seems like a pretty decent package(s).

I wonder why they announce the 2nd DLC pack this early.

By the way, are those racing cup icons the same that someone found on the original Mario Kart 8 disc? Or something like that, i remember seeing a thread where someone had found some icons.

I highly doubt this DLC is going to turn Mario Kart 8 into a system seller that makes Wii U's fly off the shelves. I'm excited for the new content, but that's not a realistic outlook in my opinion.

I know this is a jab at Capcom, and normally I'd be all for giving them shit, but it's not like Nintendo was any better with Fire Emblem

Well, they definitely have considering just looking at that list, all that is in addition to 2 fucking re-releases of the same title, which is embarrassing (imagine if the Pokemon games had a 4th version)

It definitely will be of a racing related IP from Nintendo... or IDK since there's already a Zelda track wich has nothing to do with racing, hah. But omfg, each of those tracks is going to be glorious!

I don't think I'm being hyperbolic in saying this is some of the best DLC ever as far as content/pricing.

We're essentially getting another half a Mario Kart game for 12 bucks.

I wonder why they announce the 2nd DLC pack this early.

Probably because of the discount for buying both.

That's not what i said. I said that MK is a system seller, and that this cheaply priced DLC might have more chance to carry on the momentum.

Nope, not the same. Well... there's an egg cup, but the icon is different. Those icons might've just been placeholders.
