Mario Kart 8 DLC pricing confirmed ($7.99 each or $11.99 for both, 16 tracks)

Ah man, this is just cruel. I can't believe we have to see the new cup icons locked until they are released.

That's not what i said. I said that MK is a system seller, and that this cheaply priced DLC might have more chance to carry on the momentum.
It gave the console a bump, I'm not sure that qualifies as a system seller. Mario Kart generally has long legs regardless of DLC.

My man. Or a new Air Ride game. I can't be the only one who liked it.

Well, they definitely have considering just looking at that list, all that is in addition to 2 fucking re-releases of the same title, which is embarrassing (imagine if the Pokemon games had a 4th version)
Have you looked at Fire Emblems DLC list? Those 2 SF re releases after Super added characters and balance updates and had cheaper upgrade paths for people who didn't want to spend money for the disc versions. Hardly unreasonable. Costumes are cosmetic and optional, kind of like the Fire Emblem DLC.

Actual missions and new characters vs skins.
You've kinda lost me there.
Actual missions and new characters? You mean kill them all missions and different coloured versions of NPCs using the Avatar creator? Calling them actual missions and new characters is kind of a stretch. They dont even have supports and dont communicate with you beyond their introduction for when you gain their card. Hell thy don't even look like their designs.

So uhhh I downloaded the Mercedese DLC and bought the new DLC packs....
Where are the Mercedes karts and character skins? I feel really stupid right now. Do you press a button when selecting a kart.character or something?

You have to restart the software once the download is over. The karts should be in the middle of the kart wheel when you're selecting parts. The Yoshi/Shy Guy colors are selectable from a box that pops up when you pick them.

I didn't have to restart, personally.
But yeah, there is red "!" telling you about the colors.

And the title screen should say Mario Kart 8 ver. 2.0 if the update was downloaded.

It's good to see gamers are excited. But something's telling me if the courses are not good in the first AOC, then i wonder how many of them will be demanding refunds.

I have one concern, though.

How are people that don't have the DLC gonna play with people who have it?

Like, the course is one from the main game (say, Rainbow Road), but one user is using Link and the others don't have any of the DLC.

How is that gonna work?

I know there's a way they can make people download codes that will make the DLC show up to them, but they won't be able to use it. Or something like that.

I can't believe the value Nintendo is offering here, so much content for $12. How can you say no to that?

I'm in. I'm all in.

Probably posted before. If there have been any doubts, it IS Excite Bike.

OMGG good find!! This track is going to be a blast with those ramps.

I'm sure they will be as high quality and good looking as the ones we already have on MK8. That's why the huge time gaps between each AOC. This things take time to make. I'm sure EAD started working on Pack 1 right away when the game was released so that's 6 months of hard work to create 8 high quality tracks right there and another 6 months for the second pack.

Maybe that is why the DLC is so cheap.

Nintendo is thinking ALL MK8 owners will by the DLC.

is this what you see after buying the pack!? is there anything referrig to the furure new cups in the game before buying the pack??

This is what you see regardless of if you've bought or not. All of the icons will be staring you in the face this entire time up until November for Zelda, and MAY 2015 for Animal Crossing. MAY 2015.

It's absolute torture.

Actually, I really hope there's a Pikmin level. That would be so cool! It has the right aesthetic, and driving past Bulborbs would be amazing.

Not sure if this is the final order (I assume it is)
But looking at the icon cups.. it seems like the Zelda Cup and the Bell Cup are meant for Retro while the Egg Cup and New Leaf Cup are intented for Nitro.

I think DLC characters showing up is a non-issue. If someone is playing as Link, I doubt that will affect someone without the DLC.

As for tracks, it's probably as easy as adding a box that says something like 'play with DLC' at which point you'll be entered into a player pool with others that own the DLC.

So how do I get the damn tracks on the screen. It should just be the default option. >_<

This was my number one request. It's weird looking down to see the tracks while everything is hectic.

Press the minus (-) button on the gamepad. You only have to do it once. After that, it'll stay there all the time.

Or they could do it where everyone downloads a mandatory patch that includes the tracks for online purposes and you can only actually pick them if you've bought them. Otherwise, you'll only be able to play them if someone else in the lobby has them and picks it (if it appears).

But that seems like the least likely thing to happen. I guess we'll see come November.

MAYBE Zelda cup has F-Zero, Excitebike and other old games while New Leaf cup has Animal Crossing and new games like Pikmin and Wii fit

Retro Crossover, Nitro Crossover

So uhn... How do I get to play with the Mercedes cars / colored Yoshis / colored Shy Guys? I bought the DLC and downloaded rhe cars but they won't appear. :/

EDIT:
Ok I just had to re-start the game.

probably only match people online who have bought the DLC packs is my guess

Bulborbs should be the road hazard.

The problem there is that pack 1 also has Wario's Gold Mine.

Did you back out of the game and restart it? I know that you usually have to do that for DLC for the downloads to actually install on the system and appear.

It is the most succesful game to date on Wii U and hyping it even further with amazing crossover character DLC is just smart, the pricing is just the icing on a very delicious cake.

This just made me want to play MK8 right now.

I don't see Nintendo forcing everyone to download a 2 GB update to have the right to play online. They'll likely only include vehicle/character models in the mandatory update so that everyone can see them, but not the tracks.

I'm thinking one of two ways.

1. Separate match making for those that have the DLC and those that don't. New characters, etc are in a separate listing only.

This would divide the player base I think. Which is why I like the second possible option below more

2. Everyone is in the same pool. Everyone is forced to download the tracks and characters but you can't select them unless you buy the content They'll see the new characters and carts when others pick them. If one of the new tracks is selected you could be forced to spectate the race instead of playing in it. This would show it off and make one want to go buy it.
