Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

I feel like the only reason they aren't releasing this in North America in 2015 is because they don't want to hurt Holiday Wii U sales.

Don't want to distract Wii U interest by throwing a shiny new piece of hardware into people's faces.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
From what the manager of my local Gamestop told me, the 2DS has been discontinued? It was marked down to new $99, and now their system is saying it's not going to be restocked or ordered anymore from the manufacturer

The original 2DS sku is being replaced by bundles as mentioned in Nintendo's PR this morning with Mario Kart pre-installed - who would purchase as 2DS at the same price as a 2DS with Mario 7 included :p

I think they aren't fully correct; perhaps they are just not carrying them anymore. One of my Target stores for example has no Pro Controllers. They told me it has been discontinued and they would not get any more at their stores. We know for a fact they aren't discontinued.

Has it been said yet if CPP-compatible games will work with the little nubbin? If not, that creates a whole new problem as I doubt that the current Circle Pad Pro will work with the New 3DS.

"New" gets the point across as well. When you say "New" your expecting somethings been upgraded, your expecting something better. Even fast food does it when they're changing things up. Domino's added garlic butter to their pizza crusts and advertised "Try our NEW Pizza" Its still Pizza, it has all the same things as the old pizza, they just added something "new"

It's terrible. No amount of denial and mental gymnastics will change that.

I hope the battery life gets a worthwhile boost and is close to the high end estimates

LOL Nintendo will piss off gamers when Nintendo announces Majora's Mask remake only on the new 3ds

DSi had no retail killer hits, but few download titles that were good and easily obtained on 3DS today

No, it was not; it was merely marketed that way.

They do,
iPad
iPad2
new iPad
iPad with retina screen
iPad air

New Nintendo 3DS is cool for me, it could be Nintendo 3DS (2014) too, Nintendo 3DS 'insert code name' a la HTC One M8 (successor of the M7), I dont know why whining about it.

What will be the next handset name? Nintendo Super 3DS, Nintendo 3DS.2, who care.

They avoid the U think dont get greedy we're talking about Nintendo.

All of those suggestions are worse than simply "New 3DS" IMO. The best hing about this is that there is only one way of interpreting "New 3DS". Parents who go christmas shoping for their kids will immediately associate it with what it is: A "new" 3DS.

This is actually one time where brand confusion could help them. It might make people less reluctant in the rest of the world to continue buying the 3DS through the holidays.

Can someone please tell me what's wrong with the name? I'm clearly not a good judge of names going by the way people defend product names I think are bad.

No way in hell.

Source: Me, but it makes too much damned sense. Everything 3DS/DSi related on it will be locked to the region of the system anyways though, it would be a moot point.

region locking was always only on the software side of the 3ds it has never actually been the hardware itself if they wanted to remove region locking they could with a software update it would not require a hardware revision.

The announcement video? It showed nothing about the old CPP-compatible games, only the yet-to-be-released Monster Hunter game.

I mean, I don't speak Japanese, but there's a part where they show a CCP on an old 3DS, and then immediately show the nub doing what the CCP used to do

Given the context, I think it's a lock

Goddamit Nintendo, I wanted to by a WiiU this year... :-/

A Wii U is probably the better purchase. Unless the 2nd stick or improved hardware is vital for you, there's not much reason to upgrade. You can continue to play all of the games you have on 3DS as well as new ones, as there probably won't be a bunch of "New 3DS" exclusive games... for now at least.

Get the Wii U and save the New 3DS for a later date.

So, should we start thinking about selling our 3DS'? No point in keeping the current one with this better one coming!

no sir. transfer is a must. gotta keep that ambassador status until 4DSUltraDolphin LL drops.

im sad that faceplates are for 3DS only. i wanted to mario up my new XL when i get it.

This is true but unfortunately I have no confidence Nintendo would ever be that generous.

I was hoping for a price drop this year on the Wii U but I kind of figured the PS4 will get a price drop/revision next year so if Wii U had a great Black Friday bundle I would jump in. if this is 2015 then i still should be able to go ahead as planned.

I'll give you 10 bucks for it.

Unless you want to lose all your digital crap, I'd hold on to it until you can get the system transfer done
Nope. Doesn't work this way.

All it takes is a call to verify the serial numbers and decouple your NNID from the old system and reinstate your software licenses to the new system. I've had to do it twice.

My head hurts so much, reading comments on other websites people actually think that this is Nintendo's "Next Gen Handheld" and that the 3DS is being abandoned in the middle of its lifetime.

So from the chart in the OP the XL has a little bit better battery life? I would like the smaller white one but if the XL has some advantages it makes it a toss up. Gosh I'm starting to dislike the multiple sku model these companies are doing these days.

I'm not really concerned about the name if it literally says "NEW" on the box. Pretty clear actually, it's the NEW 3ds. So when someone asks for the new one, well, it literally says it on the box. Hard to miss if you ask me.

Ninty will release an add when hit worldwide and the 'mess' will be clear up.

Btw, I want a clear color new 3DS in honour of my clear GameBoy Basic.
