No, it was not; it was merely marketed that way.the ipad 3 was called the new ipad
It's on the OP,
From what the manager of my local Gamestop told me, the 2DS has been discontinued? It was marked down to new $99, and now their system is saying it's not going to be restocked or ordered anymore from the manufacturer

I think they aren't fully correct; perhaps they are just not carrying them anymore. One of my Target stores for example has no Pro Controllers. They told me it has been discontinued and they would not get any more at their stores. We know for a fact they aren't discontinued. From what the manager of my local Gamestop told me, the 2DS has been discontinued? Does stuff like streetpass carry over from a 3ds to 3ds transfer?
For the love of God, do NOT call it NEW 3DS in NA or EU.
Call it Super 3DS or something.
"New" gets the point across as well. When you say "New" your expecting somethings been upgraded, your expecting something better. Even fast food does it when they're changing things up. Domino's added garlic butter to their pizza crusts and advertised "Try our NEW Pizza" Its still Pizza, it has all the same things as the old pizza, they just added something "new"
LOL Nintendo will piss off gamers when Nintendo announces Majora's Mask remake only on the new 3ds

Hmm, R-analog joystick seems to be bit too small. Somehow reminded me of IBM's track point.
I think the video makes that pretty clear.Has it been said yet if CPP-compatible games will work with the little nubbin? If not, that creates a whole new problem as I doubt that the current Circle Pad Pro will work with the New 3DS.
So they do still care about the stereoscopic 3D!
Yay
I think the video makes that pretty clear.

All of those suggestions are worse than simply "New 3DS" IMO. The best hing about this is that there is only one way of interpreting "New 3DS". Parents who go christmas shoping for their kids will immediately associate it with what it is: A "new" 3DS.
No way in hell.
Source: Me, but it makes too much damned sense. Everything 3DS/DSi related on it will be locked to the region of the system anyways though, it would be a moot point.
And this prevents you from getting one because?Goddamit Nintendo, I wanted to by a WiiU this year... :-/
The announcement video? It showed nothing about the old CPP-compatible games, only the yet-to-be-released Monster Hunter game.
Goddamit Nintendo, I wanted to by a WiiU this year... :-/
So, should we start thinking about selling our 3DS'? No point in keeping the current one with this better one coming!

region locking was always only on the software side of the 3ds it has never actually been the hardware itself if they wanted to remove region locking they could with a software update it would not require a hardware revision.

How is ultimate better than new? If anything Ultimate would lead to more questions/confusion.Call it 3DS ULTIMATE. No confusion, better than "New", sounds awesome.

Nope. Doesn't work this way.Unless you want to lose all your digital crap, I'd hold on to it until you can get the system transfer done

only if u dont want to get a circle pad pro for $15 and want to play xenoblade chronicles on the go.
Nope. Doesn't work this way.
All it takes is a call to verify the serial numbers and decouple your NNID from the old system and reinstate your software licenses to the new system. I've had to do it twice.
Lost one and upgraded another.Ah, so they have improved on this process? This is progress!
My head hurts so much, reading comments on other websites people actually think that this is Nintendo's "Next Gen Handheld" and that the 3DS is being abandoned in the middle of its lifetime.
