Are Square delivering a message for Dragon Quest XI ?...

A Collector PS4 Dragon Quest Edition + Dragon Quest Heroes on both PS3 and PS4...

If These 2 things are selling well, is it even possible to not see Dragon Quest XI on PS4 ( or/and PS3 as well ) ?

What is your opinion ?

If that's what they're going for, it'll still never show up in the US.

Horrid idea unless PS4 sales ramp up dramatically. Not even an enourmous moneyhat could make up for the amount of potential revenue lost.

I believe that Dragon Quest XI will debut as a 3DS game. The userbase is too big and Square Enix has fed it too many spinoffs/remakes for it not to. That said, I can see it being ported to other platforms.

Why they didn't just make a standard turn based traditional game is beyond me. SE continue their trend of not capitalizing on the DQ brand.

Well, look. Horii has said several times that he a) has heard fans saying they want another game like DQ8, and b) would like to play the next game on big screens. But I don't think this particular announcement means anything, either way. I would expect the game to be multiplatform in some way, though, based on past comments from Yuu Miyake.

Erm, Omega Force makes Musou games. You don't want them making a turn-based game. The core DQ team and whatever contracted developer they've chosen this time around is working on DQ11.

Well, if a spinoff should lead into the next main chapter FOR SURE, remember that the 3DS got something like 4 Dragon Quest games so far, including the port of DQ 10, so the previous main chapter.
I think that DQ Heroes surely is important per sè, but also in perspective: the possibilities to see DQ11 on PS4 later on are higher today than yesterday.
But DQ always hit the console with the maximum install base, and 3DS in Japan will probably be at 18 millions when PS4 will hit 3 millions.

My opinion is that there's already 2 dragon quest themed 3DS, 1 spin off, 2 DQM remakes and DQ7 remake. Also DQX coming to it (even though its by streaming).
So based on that kind of logic I think the message is clear.

I think looking for that kind of meaning from a SE announcement is asking too much.

Square Enix has the vision and consistency of a blind man who just got off a merry go round.

Then again, we're talking about Square-Enix. But yeah, they're targeting 3DS.

Yeah, that's cool and all but my main problem is localization. I won't care what system it comes to if it's not getting localized.

Doesn't really sound like a message to me.

...unless Atlus is telling us that Nintendo is getting Persona 6 because they made the Persona Q special edition 3DS.

The userbase os too important for a DQ game to sell well, a 3DS mothership title is a lock.
Musou games performs best of Playstation, no matter what.

If releasing the next DQ on PS4 means it's cross gen
3DS/PS4
then bring it on.

If Level5 can do it with NiNoKuni then so can
't
SquareEnix.

it would have helped PS4 sales a lot more if they just dropped the bomb right now but sheesh that was still good

PS4 is not really region locked if you get a Japanese account that is all I really care about right now

I want to play these games here in the US

I would like to believe this is a case of audience building. Like SE did with the ds before announcing DQIX, like Capcom did with MHTriG before MH4, SE are moving their audience to the platform now and will release/announce DQXI for the PS4 once the install base has increased, or maybe PS4 and PS3.

But the 3ds has received a lot of DQ attention too and it already has a large install base. Maybe Heroes is just a spin-off with an eye towards the future but not necessarily DQXI.

Well I would at least like to understand it in my native language :C

Ah. Whatever then. I still feel like they haven't been handling the brand properly. But something is better than nothing I guess.

If DQXI is a traditional DQ, regardless of which console/handheld it shows up on, it will be released outside Japan. The last two traditional mainline DQ games sold more than a million outside Japan, it's just too tempting for SE to pass on.

Before this announcement i had 0% expectations for a PS4 DQXI.

Now my expectations rised around 10% for PS4 (with 90% still being for 3DS.)

Silver PS4 doesn't really indicate anything other than Sony is spending extra cash to make a unique sku to try and drive sales of extra systems.

It is really hard to say what will happen with the next mainline game. They have traditionally went to the leading system. Right now that system is obvious and will never lose its lead. There have been statements regarding fans longing for a new console title and that they hear the fans but who knows this musou could be their answer.

Traditionally, DQ games have come out on the console with the most user base.
Enix have been saying that for ever but I don't know what their stance is now.

Square Enix has gone completely bonkers with decision making, so even though Dragon Quest XI on 3DS make sense, it's not a guarantee that they'll do what makes sense.

Certainly looks like it.

They are bringing Dragon Quest fan onto PS platforms. They are working on PS4 quality assets. At this point, the only point I am unsure about is wether the next DQ will be cross generation or not.

I think SquareEnix would be really really dumb for not making a 3DS version.

It is the only platform in japan to achive ~4 million sales on. Multiplatform with higher quality character models/ textures could work well though.

One Piece: Unlimited World Red looks beautiful on consoles despite beeing a rather cheap upport of a 3DS game.

Edit: I honestly don´t care what plaform it ends on. Just give it to me in english.

I sure hope so.

it would be nice to have all three of SEs major JRPGs flagship titles on a single console.

Aeana, you follow DQ a lot closer than I do. How likely is crossgen?

Edit: i have no idea how far in dev DQ11 is.

I think it's very possible. Before the PC release of DQ10, the series's producer Yuu Miyake made a big deal about how the future of the series can't be just a single packaged product for one platform.

if Nintendo is smart they could strike back soon by localizing DQX to the west and pay the server bills

it would help S-E and help us non-japanese speakers

I'd actually really love that but at the same time I can't stand how S-E has been slipping the bill to Nintendo to do their work.

I love DQ, but another mainline on a handheld console just sort of rubs me wrong. I'd like a full on console DQ again at some point in the future... I wouldn't hold my breath for it, but this gives me some hope.

Given their preference to letting first parties publish the games in the West at this point, while going multiplatform (across companies) might hypothetically make sense, I doubt they'll do it. I think either 3DS/Wii U, or PS3/4, and I'd have to say the former is more likely as of right now.

I think we will see a 'real' DQ on PS4 at some point though.

3DS/Wii U doesn't count as multiplatform?
