Man do you know what stages I miss? The N64 ones that never came back, these were my favorites.

I was just thinking about these very two stages a couple days (i.e. a few hundred pages) back.

Great choices. Amazing to think there were only *nine* stages and *twelve* characters in the game, and it still provided an insane amount of hours of entertainment.

Saffron City is the only N64 stage I really miss. This time around, my favorite stages are definitely the Paper Mario and 3D Land ones. I absolutely love the bright colors.

I think I probably won't like some like the Pac Man maze and Game Boy, but I hope to be proven wrong.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary here. Lots of people have suggested classic Falcon as an alt idea vs Sakurai coming up with NES Open Tournament Golf Mario which I'm pretty sure I've not seen suggested before.

I think he's doing just fine.

Yeah, but there are things Sakurai would never put in that I think are awesome, like Charizard's up throw in Project M, emulating one of his attacks from the anime, or the alt for Mewtwo with the armor he wore at the beginning of the movie. *o*

I forgot Peach's Castle!

Favorites for 3DS are Paper Mario and Spirit Train. Favorites for Wii U are Garden of Hope and Pilotwings.

As for a Donkey Kong stage, I think Sunset Shore from Returns would be perfect, especially if it implemented the whole shadow mechanic.

Oh, wow. That'd be awesome. They could even do one based on Smokey Peak:

Only problem I see here is keeping track of who you are. If everyone is a shadow with only a splodge of colour to say who they are things could get confusing when things get hectic.

And I suppose they'd have to add highlight colours to every items, assist and Pokémon. That would be quite a lot of work for one stage.

:O I hadn't thought of this.. after playing Tropical Freeze I would love a new highly detailed DK map like that!

Oh, I was just curious. I'm a huge fan of dinosaurs myself, and the feathered theropods are my favorites.
I just didn't know if it was an actual dinosaur or some video game character. I figured the former was more likely since *sniff* feathered non-avian dinosaurs are so rarely represented in video games... or movies... or pretty much anything...

Then take a good look at Saurian, a game I'm working on with a team of palaeoenthusiasts who want to bring scientific accurately represented dinosaurs into interactive media. Oh, also, follow our Twitter for some dinosaur-related science and game news. ;>

Throw me a PM if you're interested to talk about dinosaurs whenever you want ~

I think if we get a Returns stage, it'll be from World 3. It's still another stupid jungle, but it looks visually distinct enough that I could see Sakurai going for it. Or maybe world 1.

They'd basically have to write a new stage engine into the game, so unless they planned on using the effect or a similar variant on the effect on other stages, I don't see it happening.

There's your problem right there.

Still no word on a direct?
≤October 31, date of Nintendo's Financial Results Briefing for FY 2014 Second Quarter. As I've suggested before, a Nintendo Direct broadcast during Tokyo Game Show could make sense. The next results briefing will most likely be about QOL, the console they are developing for emerging markets and outlook for CY 2015. The title will certainly be mentioned there, but the release date ought to have been announced prior to that event.

This is the leaked image from a few weeks ago of All star mode. Its the same image from Sakurai today. My questions is:

At first I thought Sakurai's comments today about the padlock meaning that not all characters were unlocked as 100% confirm that the leak did not include ALL characters. But then my friend brought up, what if the screens show the locks individually for the years shown. I.E 1980-1985 would also include Duck Hunt, Game & Watch, and ROB. Those characters clearly are not visible in either the leaked or the new screen and the padlock is still there. Maybe once you unlock those three the padlock disappears and 1986-1990 has a padlock still. Now again, I am feeling unsure.

Next week's issue of Famitsu is said to have a 100 page Super Smash Bros. for 3DS supplement. It's due out on the 11th of September

It's a shame so many of the stages are gimmicky (they are either scrolling stages, or have stage bosses, or change mid-way thru the battle, etc). My guess is Sakurai decided battlefield and having all stages have FD forms meant he could go wild with gimmicky things, and decided to leave out most static stages from previous games.

Dang, I forgot about Assists, Pokemon, and items.
I'd even be okay if instead of highlighting specific clothing parts (like DK's tie, Link's tunic and hat, Mario's hat and overalls), all characters would be a solid color (like Mr. Game & Watch's alternate colors). It would be a cool stylized stage.
