Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

So... am I the only one around here who actually likes Dr. Mario as a separate character? Among all the low effort clone possibilities, Dr. Mario comes from an incredibly popular/high-selling game and serves as Smash Bros.' sole puzzle genre representative. Superficially he's just Mario in a lab coat, but he embodies so much more than that. I just wish the viruses were incorporated into his moveset somehow, but I know that's unlikely considering he's a clone.

Nope. Still prefer the doc to regular mario. Love the megavitamins, thunder palm, and dat black alt.

Nope! He shouldn't have been cut in the first place for the reason you stated, if you ask me.

Though he's my Melee main so...I'm biased.

I've seen Sukapon mentions a lot over the years and yet I've never seen a single opinion on the actual game, Joy Mech Fight.
It's a fun, simple fighting game that has its fair share of problems. The roster is big, but the characters are divided up into tiers that for the most part mean the later you unlock that tier the better those characters will be; characters also have a good degree of sameness to them, though you'll definitely find favorites to play with and match your style of play. The properties of certain moves can be ridiculous sometimes too; moves can be entirely useless or way too good since it seems like little thought actually went into how or why certain moves should be used and work the way they do.

I guess the biggest detractor to the game is that when you compare it to the earlier Street Fighter II, it's just not as good. It's definitely a solid fighting game for its time, especially given the limits of the Famicom, but today you really can't get more out of it than a couple hours with your friends.

Well after that whole fiasco, the release date was changed to "TBD" on the official site and it's been like that for over a year now so I don't really see what the hold up is unless they're not releasing it at all. Maybe they just want everyone to forget about it. Not this guy though lol.
Funnily enough, I'm an admin for that FB page. ;P

I mean the other guy does 99% of the posts but still

We really want Flipnote.

Yoshi represents the Tetris Attack series.
I wouldn't say he "represents" Tetris Attack considering he's best known for Super Mario World/Yoshi's Island/Yoshi's Story, and that's where his Smash Bros. moveset pulls from. Dr. Mario appears exclusively in Dr. Mario games.

So with the news of Twitpic shutting down, I immediately set to work on saving the pics of Sakurai's cat (Fukurashi) and I came across two very interesting pics...

This was taken over two years ago. Research material, or a gift from Namco? :O

They should put in Lip from Panel de Pon if it was a matter of having a good Puzzle game rep.

But I love Doc, mostly because he plays so much more satisfying than Mario. It's the small things that completely change his dynamic.

A noble undertaking. Do you have a gallery where we could see of all of his posted images?

Tomorrow's POTD - Pac Man with hat as an palette swap. And more Smash Run.

Lip wouldn't work as a clone, and that's mainly my point -- between having Dr. Mario or not having him, I think including him helps boost the roster from a historical and genre representation perspective.

Hold up, I missed Captain Syrup's nomination? I would be SO down for that character but only if they played her up as a Tatsunoko vs Capcom Doronjo style of player who would casually lounge around while bumbling grunts (members of the Black Sugar Pirates) acted as her moves. There's also something extremely cool thematically about newcomers from the greater Wario series being a total inversion of the newcomers/vets that come from the greater Mario series. That and she's the only other red head who could finally bring a "sack of loot" attack to Smash Bros.

Edit: Her final smash should totally be summoning the genie from Wario Land 1

Also, I'm legit surprised so many people expected Smash news out of that Bayo Direct. Nintendo's made crazier curve balls before sure, but given the context of the game already being ESRB rated and the leak being a curated set of things that could be considered "offensive" to people with nothing from that side of the spectrum inside, there was a lot of evidence to quell that train of thought.

I just like him cause he plays as a better Mario.

But that's a good reason too

Are you saying Dr. Mario is a bad game? Well you're wrong, just so you know, but everyone has their own opinion.

Did you try this, though?

It's mostly the same, but it has Wario, so it's a lot better.

Nope. Get Lip or Pushmo if we were to get puzzle reps. At least they'd both bring design ideas from their puzzle game along with themselves instead of having a character throw on an overcoat and re-up on ibuprofen.

Speaking of puzzle games, (and this is totally off topic) has anyone played the NES puzzle game Fire n' Ice? One of the best NES games I've played and the puzzle are brilliant.

We all know she has absolutely no chance. But that doesn't mean we can't entertain impossible scenarios once in a while.

Impossible scenarios on GAF? Nah.

I actually wanted Ghirahim as newcomer... Talking about an impossible scenario. :(

Right here. I intend to play the shit out of Mega Man. For me, the idea of having a main is a bit silly. How could you ever limit yourself to one or two characters in such a huge roster? Mega Man will be the closest thing to that for me, I think.

All the other newcomers look awesome too though. Actually, the one I've next most excited to play with are the Miis, and I never would have expected that before they were shown off. I love all the customization.

I dont think having a main limits you to just 1 or 2, its what people consider their best character and one they'd most likely go to if they really want to win this fight. ANd yes i'll laso be using Megaman and hopefully end up maining him if me and him click like it did for Kirby, peach, toon link/young link, lucas, Zsamus

Having a main doesn't mean I do not use the other characters, it just means that I have a character I prefer when I'm playing to win and not just to dick around.

Masked Man

I said wow
Loving all the Chesnaught love here. :')

Likewise. May the best Gen 6 starter reign supreme!
Although Smash has enlightened me to the awesomeness of Greninja as well.

Wow, I totally missed that! He must have been researching for Smash. How cool! :D

I actually think Little Mac will be a high learning curve character. I was expecting him to be one of the easiest to learn, but I actually wasn't doing very well with him at all in the demo. Learning how to deal with enemies without getting into the air much is gonna be something Little Mac players will have to learn to do.

But yeah, I expect Mega Man to have a pretty big learning curve. I expect a lot of the newcomers to, honestly. Especially Shulk and Robin.

Hmm, Little Mac might... but every time I used him, I found it to be a pretty easy win. Of course, how easy Little Mac is to use really depends on the stage; on FD and other flat stages he'll be a beast, but stages that require a lot of jumping and air time will really handicap him.

Thanks for your input. I hope to get around to all of them eventually.

No problem! Hope you enjoy them; they're fantastic games. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Honestly, I think it's quite possible that Mega Man will be cut next time around. Sonic and Pac Man will probably stay, due to SEGA and Namco Bandai's good relations with Nintendo, but Capcom doesn't really have that.

Sure, it's always possible, but I think Capcom and Nintendo have better relations than you might be giving them credit for. Nintendo's running a Capcom sale on the eShops right now, Capcom is easily the third-party with the most games on the Virtual Console (Wii U at least), Capcom is the only third-party to get (two so far!) StreetPass puzzle panels dedicated to their games/franchises (Mega Man and Monster Hunter 4), and with the way Mega Man has been constantly featured on the eShops as an honorary "Nintendo character" and how his many Virtual Console releases have all been treated as major events by both Nintendo and Capcom (even going so far as to have two entire months dedicated to Mega Man VC releases), it's honestly like Nintendo has once again become Mega Man's second unofficial home. With how heavily Nintendo is promoting him as one of "their" brand characters, I don't think seeing him come back for Smash 5 is out of the question at all.

One thing I hate about the stages is that so many of Mario's are racing or platforming. Except for Paper Mario, there really isn't much that deviates from that mold. I want a Mario Power Tennis stage dagnabbit!

Guess I'm stuck in dicking around mode. I wouldn't know who to pick if someone told me to pick my best.
