In the recent developer commentary of Wolfenstein, the dev states that one of the key tenets of MachineGames is to make the collectables and pickups (even the secrets) feel like they belong in the world.

The example the dev used in the commentary was "This room needs Shotgun ammo for the balance pass, but it doesn't realistically make sense for shotgun ammo to be here, how do we make this work?".

Another was a secret enigma code located in a briefcase attached to a dead Nazi officer's arm that is stuck underneath a train. You have to use the LKG to break the chain attaching the briefcase to the officer's arm and then steal the secret. It fits the story.

That's why MachineGames > * and Wolfenstein is current GOTY

That's a step in the right direction. I feel like I'm missing out for not having picked it up yet, Everybody recommends it, even my closest friends who aren't really into games. Word of mouth is super postitive on this one.
My backlog is too big :/

That
knife-wielding lady
at the start of the Sessler videos looks exactly like
the knife-wielding-lady model from RE4
. Not a bad thing obviously.

There's some good news about loading times:
-TGS build load times upon death were reduced compared to earlier showings
-According to GameWatch, the load times are even more reduced in the gold master/review version
-For those still hesitating which version to get: PS4 load times are significantly reduced compared to PS3 (same for X360/XboxOne).
The complete install of 40GB is only possible on PS4/XboxOne compared to the 7GB mandatory install on PS3. Also, bd-drives read more data faster than a dvd

TLDR: if you can't upgrade your PC, next-gen versions are the way to go for the best TEW playthrough. Not only the graphics are improved, but the load times are a lot better

I'll go back to get a PS4.
Already re-pre-ordered. Now I wait...

A lot of this game screams RE4.

Not a bad thing like you said.

I wonder if people will dock it for that in reviews.

Do we know how this game is running on the PS4? I am thinking about getting it on the PS4 instead of PC to play it on my TV. Not gonna do it if it looks/runs like shit though.

Would love to hear the opinions of someone who watched or played it on PS4 because I am trying not to watch any gameplay videos to go in completely fresh.

edit: just saw xpliskin's post, that answers my question I guess.

I didn't catch up with evil within lately, but is it still our last hope for the old survival horror veterans like me?
Or did that changed since the reveal?

Yeah, I'll get it for PS4, when I have a PS4. My PC has handled everything admirably so far, but 4GB VRAM sounds a bit steep. PS4 version should be good, though.

Fuck, I think the end might have been spoiled for me. Beware the YT comments of the TGS trailer. The guy could be lying but fuuuuuuck.

Still going to pre order in a few days though.

That's what they claim, although I'm not seeing it yet, personally.
Buy ZombiU and Lone Survivor if you haven't already. Best of the genre in the last couple of years.

Pete is a pretty honest down to earth guy (check the hour long playthough of the demo).

He's not the only one feeling the same about the game.

Two devs from tango both "complained" about dieing a lot and being low on ammo on twitter, if it means anything to anyone.

Well I hope I will not be disappointed then, 3 weeks and we can test it our selves.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
2000+ posts. The hype is real, GAF.

I'd rather games take inspiration from RE4 than the AAA games they usually do.

Honestly I feel TEW will be a toned down RE4. With more survival than actual horror.

I don't think it'll reach Remake or recent indie horror games in terms of actual helplessness/dread/horror.

EDIT:
Why is "complained" in quotes?

It's pretty obvious, but OK.

As in "I die a lot when I try my own game" or "Playing the game I'm working on is very tense".

I can't draw that, sorry :/

I somehow feel the same from the videos and game play I saw, I hope the horror parts will be decent then. Survival can be also a good thing, it rises the tension.

This game came out of nowhere for me but it looks to be exactly what we'e been missing. And it looks like it's coming out at the best time with the onslaught of games coming out in November.

Anyone know of any offers or discounts for this game for pre-order? Need something to completely convince me to jump in

GMG may have a coupon floating about somewhere.

Curious why toned down? I feel the horror aspects already surpass what RE 4 horror was there.(at least from enemy design and locations I've seen so far) But I guess it depends on what exactly your referring to. If I get this before launch, Ill probably shit bricks on film.

Yeah, it's like the ears were cleaned out and a train is screaming down the tunnel. There's no need to belittle the hype we're already trying to establish here.

Yea, if the game honestly doesn't run on 90% of PCs this game is toast.

I say that as someone fully vested in a day one purchase.

It is not toast, because if it is great i am sure a lot of people will be buying it on consoles and think its great.

But if the PC version is an absolute mess and doesnt work right on so many machines that people consider high end as of just last year, and even this year, they are going to have a real problem as they have been pre-selling it for a long time now.

There will be people unaware that their 1500-2000$ beefy pcs cant run it and wont know it till release day. It is a necessity at this point they have the proper game settings to allow these people playable framerates in the 25-30 fps region.
