Aside from the fight and the bit with Stewie at the end, this was pretty much trash. Letting the FG crew handle the crossover was a mistake.

Not like modern day's Simpsons staff has proven itself capable of producing high quality comedy...

Was definitely worth watching. It got better as it went along and the voice acting in particular stood out as noteworthy.
Don't think I need to see it a second time, however.

I didn't really ask for much, but I did enjoy it.

I enjoyed the second half more than the first. The courtroom scene was pretty awesome, as was that fight. I also enjoyed the (not exactly subtle) digs at Family Guy copying Simpsons.

Overall, I also enjoyed the Simpsons parts than the Family Guy parts. Stewie torturing Nelson and Meg cutting her arm weren't funny and were just gross. Though I have a feeling the reason why those scenes were so intense is to better show the difference between Simpsons and Family Guy.

Some parts of the episode didn't feel quite right due to it being Family Guy. For instance, during the fight, it kinda seemed weird watching the Simpsons in a long, bloody fight scene. It makes me realize that the crossover wouldn't have worked right if it were done in a Simpsons episode instead of a Family Guy episode.

Alright, that was great. The carwash scene was too much, but it's Seth's show, and he did pay homage and hit the right notes. I mean, James Woods, you guys! That was awesome.

I have to laugh at the people who say having the Simpsons written by Family Guy ruins Simpsons...as if the show hasn't been ruined enough already.

Started watching the Simpsons again due to the marathon just to see a guest character from 23 years ago get brought back and killed. It just shits all over the classic episode. I think I'll stop watching again after this shitfest.

Watched both the premiere and the Family Guy crossover. First time I watched Simpsons in years (and Family Guy too, although I never really watched that at all outside of some random episodes - not my thing). It mostly made me miss the days when I was really into The Simpsons. It wasn't as good as (my memory of) what the Simpsons used to be, but eh, maybe I'll stick with it for this season, if only for nostalgia's sake. I'll watch the Futurama ep at least, although I'm not expecting much. Some jokes here and there that made me smile, and nothing offensively bad. Some of the extended violence scenes in the crossover weren't to my liking, but I suppose it was a Family Guy ep in the end.

See... this is why I post warnings in the OP as to which episodes will likely be good and which ones won't be good.

This isn't a matter of pre-judging them... it's a matter of knowing what this staff is capable of and knowing when they've checked out and not wanting to discourage people from checking out modern Simpsons. This was NOT the episode to come back and revisit the show after generating warm fuzzies from the marathon. 80% of modern Simpsons is garbage. But the 20% that isn't garbage is well worth watching. That's why it's important to deflect as much attention from the 80% garbage quotient that will scare people away as much as possible.

Fair enough. I'll read through the OP and give the show another shot. Thank you :)

I didnt watch it, but oddly had a dream about watching it with my family. There waa a courtroom scene and apu was there. But he was played by the real life hank azaria, not animation. And I found that hilarious becauae he was still doing the voice

I dont know anything at all about the real episode, just found that odd

Not a great episode overall but a bunch of clever bits.

My main issue is each segment was really cut off from the rest and it just seemed like the episode had no continuality.

That is if you are referencing the Family Guy cross over which people are talking about. As for the proper Simpsons episode, that was gastly. Miles worse then last seasons worse, I thought it was improving again but nope, had to retread an older episode and do it horribly. Krustys characterisation really needs to improve, hes been winy depressed clown with nothing else for to long, and as someone who's lost someone recently (not in the relationship which krusty has, but still close) its an improper send off to a character and a horrible characterization and resolve of those who are left.

I was talking about the crossover, didn't know there was a real simpsons episode too.

The family guy stuff had some neat things in the first half hour, entire 2nd half was terrible though.

It was really good until the chicken fight at the end. I can't stand tasteless violence.

Yeah I didn't have a problem with the episode till the chicken fight at the end. I'm cool with it in Family Guy cause that's the norm, but seeing Homer having his hand crushed with all the blood coming out or his eye coming out of his socket and shit ,and being crushed by a space ship with the gore, just made me really uncomfortable.

At least I got a few good laughs out of the episode. At least now I can look forward to the Futurama crossover.

Haven't seen the crossover yet.
But the Simpsons episode was a major disappointment. All this drama about a major character dying and then this. They should have killed of Krusty himself.

First episode was pretty decent apart from Hyman's parts.

The Family Guy cross over was pretty damn good. They could have trimmed it down a bit but it was much better than expected.

Lots of car wash gifs here - http://www.abload.de/gallery.php?key=s8WK8DY8

I kinda skipped the chicken fight bit. Sorta funny how Homer just got like brutal squished then just climbed out at the end lol.

I really dont like what Family Guy is anymore but thought this episode was great. The only bit I didn't really like is the bit at the end with Megs cut arm, thought that was a bit too stupid and low brow - though FG has been getting more explicit with violence in recent years.

The car wash bit was funny, so was most of the start before they got to Springfield.

Leave it to Roger from American Dad to have the only part in the show that made me chuckle:

"Bye! Thanks for havin' me!"

Besides that, it was about what I expected. The tone is definitely more Family Guys-leaning than Simpsons-leaning and the more violent aspects of the show definitely didn't work well in the Simpsons format.

edit: and jeez, I like don hertzfeldt, but I'd love to see a couch gag that's an actual gag and not a 4 minute long intro about nothing.

Yeah, i think that was the part i loved most. Roger makes any scene great.

Thought the crossover was good, had a few funny bits. Not terrible, but nothing amazing either.

Just ok, about what I expect really and thats all right. Nice bit of TV to say 'they did it'.

Car wash scene was stupid as, only part I hate hated.

Overall if you go in pretending its just Family Guy meeting current-day Simpsons you wont be disappointed.

Crossover was just kind of weird to me. I wanted to appreciate it as a bit of a "this is actually a thing they're doing" but it all felt too calculated and sterile. I suppose it did highlight just how much of a dissonance there exists between Family Guy and Simpsons but the most of it is exploited through the narrative of the former show, meaning the Simpsons get put in a lot of awkward situations where they just feel really out of place, despite it taking place in Springfield. Honestly it felt a lot like I was just watching the Simpsons being conditioned to react and spectate on the escapades of the Griffins, and much like Family Guy the humor is incredibly hit or miss (when it hits, it really hits, but that comes at the payoff of having a lot of misses).

I will say there are some parts I really liked. Bart and Stewie had a cute little dynamic and it mostly highlighted to me how much I prefer Stewie in modern Family Guy (since the evil baby thing got old really fast). The trial segment was also good and the police had some really funny moments (the punchline at the embarrassing car wash scene was almost worth the torture getting there). In my opinion though the biggest waste of potential was not giving Brian and Chris anything to do. There's probably not a lot for the latter to do in the context of comparing series dynamics (well, maybe with Ralph) but I really looked forward to the potential of Brian hanging out at Moe's and them shooting the shit. Instead Moe just exists to rehash the prank call gag and reveal the hook for the episode's main conflict.

Overall just another average episode. Looking forward to the Simpsons and Futurama crossover.

Best part was the court scene showing all the similar characters, especially James Woods hahaha

Yeah, that was great. I'm surprised they didn't pair up Quagmire with Moe, though.

I really liked the crossover, much better than I feel The Simpsons has been in a very long time. All the meta-commentary about the differences in the universe (like the dogs) and lamp shading the similarities between the two shows (Peter mistaking Chris for Bart, the court scene) worked as well as it could have in my opinion. Glad to see that some other people enjoyed it, considering how unpopular the idea was. glad I gave it a shot.

The lampshading between Brian and Santa's Little Helper only helped to enhance my general loathing of Brian and wishing he'd stayed dead.

Crossover was better than expected though. That might be because my expectations of both shows are so low these days.

Its what i have feared: modern episodes so bad that they make you hate even the classic episodes

I hadn't really watched either show in years: Family Guy because I've never been a big fan and found it to be too stupid, and The Simpsons because I just got sick of it and its declining quality.

Found out about the crossover being on last night through GAF, though, and caught the last 50 minutes.

Meh. Family Guy still sucks.

The crossover episode just aired in Australia. It had some decent bits in it, but as a whole it was pretty terrible.

Shitty writing, little to no chemistry between any of the characters, zero subtlety and completely soulless. Ugh.

Crossover episode was awful.

it did make me find the one where they all grow up though -- Holidays of Future Passed (season 23, ep 9). That was super good

Rabbi Hyman Krustofsky perfectly summed up the first episode "eh". So krusty's father died not quite the impact the advertising would have you believe, still the couch gag was easily the best part of the episode.
The family guy crossover episode was decent enough not quite as bad as it could have been.

Haven't gotten around to watching the actual Simpsons season premiere yet. Started watching the Family Guy season premiere and did not realize it'd be over 40 minutes. So I stopped somewhere in the middle.

I found it boring and cheap, with some animation decidedly very bad (Moe's phone at the bar). I chuckled at some Stewie lines, but the rest of it was terribad.

Might get around to watching The Simpsons tonight.

Overall it was definitely pretty cheesy, but had a few moments that made it enjoyable. The car wash was absolutely cringe worthy, but the "carrying Bob" moment and shot at the Cleveland Show were pretty funny.

Ghost

Chili Con Carnage!
I was enjoying the episode to some extent but when this didn't happen in the big fight:

I was so disappointed the whole thing was ruined
