Nostalgia definitely helps because the new strider has some of the best remixes ever, omg.
Kazakh Theme sounds so good <3
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg806UKgg8o

I have never played the NES version, but this remix of Kazakh sounds much better to my ears. Rarely do modern tunes impress me more than the originals.

No NG+, what year is this? It seems you feel the same way about this game as I do Tomb Raider 2013. I'm a curious bastard, though, so I'll probably end up getting it when it's cheap(er), then I won't feel bad if it's a crap game. My Strider 2 copy is always there for me to go back to.

You dislike FFX as well. *High Five*. I'm glad FFXII changed it up(never played XI).

Sometimes? Depends on the game, I guess. What'd you have in mind?

People who know me (both of you) know that I'm always up for a point and click. Any of the first three games in the Blackwell series (Legacy, Unbound, Convergence) take 2-3 hours to finish, and the fourth is about 5 hours. Terrific series, and when it comes to point and clicks if it's not in the "must play" category it's damned close.

Cognition episode 1 is 5 hours. Machinarium is 5 hours. Solid, solid games.

Fester Mudd episode 1 and Lilly Looking Through are both 2 hours. Also not bad. I'll vouch for them, but get Lilly on sale because that non-sale asking price is steep.

I'm leaving 5 hours as my cap. So those are some good point and clicks for your time.

In terms of other games, if you haven't played Thomas Was Alone, there's that too.

Any must play games that are only a few hours long? Just finished Jazzpunk and I'm looking for something else that might be easy to clear from the backlog.

Not a must play by any means, but I really enjoyed Year Walk (Impressions by Grief)
You can play completely through it in about 90 minutes I guess, but if you want to 100% it, it'll probably take 3-4 hours.
Note that there isn't really anything happening until you figure out what you have to do in the beginning.

I'd also recommend the Puzzle Agent games, because I loved the weird story behind them, but some of the puzzles are quite dull. (Impressions by me). Take about 3 hours each.

Whispering Willows also only takes about 3 hours to 100%. Neat little game, though it has its faults. (Impressions by BinaryPork2737)

Will take those into account -- I think I have them all, except maybe blackwell 4.
I finished Thomas Was Alone twice this year. Wasn't blown away by it, but it was okay enough that I did a speed run through it on my Vita for the trophies after it was free on PS+.

I'm surprised the first words out of your mouth weren't "Hatoful Boyfriend".
Speaking of, maybe I should give that a shot -- or one of the other VNs I have on Steam -- I could probably clear those pretty simply and it might be a nice change of pace.
As for Puzzle Agent, I started one of them once upon a time... and it reminded me of the Professor Layton DS games, in a very good way. I just haven't gone back to work through them... OCD makes those types of games a bit of a nightmare, because I get frustrated if I use a hint or didn't get maximum points on the puzzle and I have to go back and try to solve them after I've finally made sure I understand the answer (if I didn't get it right).
I'll take note about Whispering Willows and Year Walk and put them on the short list, yakkue darling. :p

How long to play through RE:R, Remember Me, and Banner Saga -- Ningen was trying to get me to go through those titles after playing them recently himself.
The one difference is that if it's something where I'd be focused on the achievements, I'll end up with longer playtimes than most. Not that I'll necessarily go for all of them, but -- for example -- when I looked at the MP3 achievements and saw how many playthroughs were required to get 100% of the single player achievements, it slid down the backlog and I went with Bioshock Infinite instead (great game!) and have now done 95% of the main game, 100% on both Burial at Sea Episodes, and I cut myself off there and threw it in the achievement cleanup category I have for 1999 mode and the CitC content someday.

forgot Lords of the Fallen and Advanced Warfare. Why did I forget AW if I remembered Ghosts lol. But im not paying 60€ for Advanced Warfare, even if unlike most people, I actually like the COD campaigns, and will gladly buy them at "just" 50%

Lords of the Fallen is locked, so maybe a 25% GMG voucher thing if its looking good. I do own Lara (I think? pretty sure I do) but isnt that next year?

Final Fantasy 13 might actually be nice to check the new rig, game looked gorgeous on PS3 tbh. And im buying it on GMG with the voucher sooner or later, I just keep forgeting.

Im not buying BL Presequel for full price, as much as I loved the first game, the second didnt do much for me. And I never got into any Civ so I dont think ill start with this one.

Dragon Age isnt on steam so meh. Unless it turns out amazing, im not bothering with Origin (please PLEASE lets not get into that)

nice list tho Munch. Most of it isnt out tho, did nothing really come out this year besides the Metros and Dark Souls 2? o_O

edit: oh theres also that...Raven...something? Something Raven? I dont know, some rpg. oh and Styx, could potentially be showcase-y (and good) and its pretty cheap

You mean this?

asking Frost's opinion about games is like asking someone with ageusia what he thought of a meal. Its moot.

Which Alien movies should I watch before playing Isolation?

I watched them when I was younger, but it's been so long I don't really remember anything, and wanna get caught up before the games out.

Alien is all you need. Aliens is also great, but the game is definitely in the vein on the original film.

I have no idea how long that game is, so I couldn't recommend it to you as a game that's "only a few hours long" ;p

Has any Steamgaffer actually played it already? There was a lot of talk about it before it came out, but I didn't read anything about it since.

I'll take that under advisement. I'm still getting the game and making up my own opinion, but the lack of NG+ is a shit move.

by the way im not saying Strider 2014 is good, im just saying that frost is, well, useless. You know, as a person.

Strider 2014 was ok (at best), it was good enough to scratch the metroidvania itch. It most definately does not give you herpes and kill your dog like frost describes it.

I don't think having a solid understanding of the lore of Alien will do anything for the game.

I'm just not familiar with a lot of the folk here outside of JaseC, Grief, Jshackles, Milamber, and Atraveller. Those have been the more prominent ones. A few others, too, but I can't remember their handles(only avatars).

Edit: Oh, and DrDogg, too, the resident photographer.

It looks like 2GB VRAM is just enough to run Mordor at 1680x1050 with everything but textures set to max:

Using a DS3 but dealing with X360 button prompts is throwing me for a loop (I tend to hit X on the DS3 when the layout's equivalent is actually Square), but I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually.

I have avatars turned off at work so I recognise names a fair bit. I should post here more often so people remember me. Hopefully my Pizza Dog avatar helps. I'm going to be changing it for a Halloween version soon!

One, two games tops and your brain will catch up.
Still, would be lovely if we had an OS level support for PS button prompts...

The third Dark Souls 2 dlc is much better than the second (which I thought had some absolutely awful miscues involving "gauntlets") but I still think the first was the best of the set. I definitely think it was one of most worthwhile season passes I've been suckered into purchasing. The various dlc don't do anything to address people's problems with the main game, but they do a few interesting things and have provided some really memorable encounters that I'm glad I stuck around for. In the latest dlc everything leading up to the battle with the final boss of the area I thought was really damn cool. The optional area and boss, not so much.

DS2 now sits as my third most played steam game. Doubt I will put much of anything more into it except for the occasional co-op session; I've had my fill.

So I get to dive into SoM tomorrow and will hopefully get some neat experiences with the Nemesis system. The stories people have been sharing are super fun to read.

Yeah, it'd be great if Sony provided official drivers. At present you could count the amount of games that officially support the DS3/4 on one hand.

I don't think any games ever supported the DS3 unless you count games like FFXIV and PSO2 having selectable button prompts.

I'd just stick with the first two. The rest were pretty eh.

The first two it is, then! Thanks guys!

I just figure it would add an understanding to the references they'll throw in.

Doesn't Transistor support both or does it only pick up on the DS4 in particular?

Well since you have to use an unofficial driver for the DS3 to even work with anything I'm pretty sure that games only detect if you're using a DS4 to switch prompts since it works as a standard d-input controller without installing anything else.
