Mordor keeps freezing with a slight overclock, I see three numbers at the top of MSI's overlay (xx%, temperature, and then another percentage that seems to stay at 98 or 99%)

I reverted it but... eh. Guess I'm not one for OCing or I need help :p

100Mhz is a pretty big bump for an initial OC (it may seem small but look at what your max boost clock is in Nvidia Inspector if you can) at this point you should start lowering it in small increments to see what is stable, preferably using a benchmark like Unigine Heaven or something.

Need to put some effort in if you want the best results.

Jesus, I'll say it again I don't care about skullgirls I was talking about Valve's handling of DLC in general.

but what's the point of adding dlc without a game? It's tied to a game, it's not a thing on itself and I don't see why would it let you buy dlc while not owning the game, if anything, this way saves us from mistakenly buying something you have no need for and can't play. And you still can buy it as a gift to your inventory if you wish so.

New avatar time! I put pizza in it, just for JaseC.

Pizza-Franken-Dog just in time for Halloween. Lucky git, I can't change my avatar without folks in here flipping the fuck out.

well, that would be no in my book

Seeimg as Pier Solar is going for the authentic MegaDrive (yeah, yeah or Genesis) look and feel I wonder how long before some youngster complains 'why doesn't it have save states like all the other MD games do?'. There's a site called RetroCollect where I swear most of the members are classing their suspectedly obtained ROMs as part of their collection.

I've been working in 10Mhz increments though. But yea, probably just too big of a jump, idk,

I'll mess around later, I'm not fucking with voltage.

Don't even think about it!

seriously, why it has no savestates?!
I don't mind authenticity and saving at save point/map only for the most part, but I know I prefer to save everywhere these days, partly being too lazy to replay parts of the game if something goes wrong, partly not wishing a game dictate how long I should play it in one sit.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Seeing how most engines these days cache their texture and mesh data I wouldn't be too bothered or take what Afterburner reports as what the game is actually using. I'd say unless the game starts grinding to a halt (like to 5-10fps) or you get an annoying low memory dialog box pull you out of game you're 99.99% not running out of VRAM.

Bumping up the resolution to 150% (2520x1575) cuts my minimum framerate down by a third, so it's reasonably accurate. Ultra textures are a definite no-go, though. ;)

Shadows of Mordor is the perfect Christmas sale game. I guarantee you it will be half price by then.

It makes things much more difficult for Russian trading as I have already experienced with DLC for The Evil Within and Alien Isolation.

I could buy now for my inventory and risk it getting region locked later making it useless. I just don't see why I can't redeem DLC to my account with owning the main game tbh. Hell just put a warning in like is done for pre orders or bundles.

In the instance of free DLC though I wouldn't argue this though, that seems fair.

It has nothing to do with Valve, DLC can be added without owning the base game if that's what the developer wants.

I've never seen this before, any examples?

Amazing.

I have a bunch of Saints Row 4 DLC on my account without owning the game, there are probably more but I can't remember right now.

I'm pretty sure steam doesn't allow you to add dlcs without a base game.

Yeah, Valve should allow this. Simply because sometimes, like happened just now for Eliza, or Saints Row 4 DLC, they release free limited time DLC. Maybe one wants it because he want buy the game in a second moment, like I did for SR4.
PSN allows this, so why not on Steam?

PSN allows this?
I guess, I never tried it on PSN.

One week until Alien: Isolation!

*please be good please be good please be good*

Will be a most noteworthy time in gaming if we receive both a very strong LotR title from a much-loved dev *and* an acclaimed Alien title from another in close succession - I dearly want both to do well, so all fingers are crossed.

When did Valve update the account page to the new style? It seems to have broken the ES features on that page (looks like all the tabs are actually separate web pages now)

Haha, Can't you turn Doogie Howser into a vampire or something? I guess it's harder with photos.!

I'm sure I can knock up something quick and simple like my reindeer antler and Rudolf nose I did for crimbo.

Don't even think about it!

Didn't it actually release s a MegaDrive ROM? I know there was a Dreamcast version out a while back.

Hahaha yeah I can imagine running Ultra textures on 2gb isn't a pleasant experience. But I guess Unity is going to be your upgrade game. Well you own it already so I guess you get to see how demanding it will be first hand so that's a start

Definitely within the past day. The page still had the old design yesterday afternoon when I explained how to obtain the HD Content DLC for Mordor (it wasn't on the game's store page).

jshackles

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

I just got up to give my son his medication (his surgery went great) and saw your post. Thanks for the heads up! I'll try to get that feature updated and working again for the next release.

I'm just not familiar with a lot of the folk here outside of JaseC, Grief, Jshackles, Milamber, and Atraveller. Those have been the more prominent ones. A few others, too, but I can't remember their handles(only avatars).

Edit: Oh, and DrDogg, too, the resident photographer.

Turfster is going to be so upset.

Dungeons is getting a sequel? I thought that game sold like shit and got some ribbing from staunch Dungeon Keeper fans. Well I guess as of now where there's a Steam, there's a way.

Right?

The messed up part is that I'm kind of hopeful cuz I still really want a good Dungeon Keeper game.

It's worth noting that Realmforge never claimed Dungeons to be a Dungeon Keeper type game, because it really isn't. It was massively hyped up by the media saying that's what it was and then everyone was super disappointed when the game came out. Haven't looked into Dungeons 2 that much so not sure if it's more like DK but try not to get your hopes up too much.

I'm surprised there's a cat around here with all these D-O-DOUBLE Gs.

If someone said to you (that's the royal you) at the start of the year there would be a return to form for Wolfentien, Metal Gear Solid V and Final Fantasy XIII would be coming to Steam, there will be a Lord of the Rings game loved by fans and critics alike, an Alien title that delivered suspense and tension instead of killing waves of dudes, Mikami proves there's still life in mainstream survival horror with The Evil Within and an Assassin's Creed game that rejuvenates the formula you'd have been laughed out of town. Looking good on some of them so far.

Right?

Seeing that IAP laden iOS game just made me sad. At least the classics are on GOG (and for the bonkers Origin too). I'd love a modern day version of Theme Park but I know it would end up being soulless and completely ruined.

Any must play games that are only a few hours long? Just finished Jazzpunk and I'm looking for something else that might be easy to clear from the backlog.
Bionic Commando Rearmed, if only to unlock Super Hard Mode so afterwards you can experience ruthless ass-kicking.

Having played it recently, it still holds up nicely.

I want a remake of Theme Hospital. I loved that game.

Excellent. No one remembers me. Just how I like it. Its not Shadownet for nothing y'all know.

Goddamn I played 11 hours of Shadow of Mordor already. What a great game. And I think I'm only 75% through (not counting collectibles)
Once you upgrade your abilities. Killing orcs is just way too fun.

If you take all the old simulation classics (proper simulation games not these new pretenders) like Theme Park, Them Hospital, Railroad Tycoon, Rollercoster Tycoon, Transport Tycoon, even Populous and just gave them a lick of paint and support for more common resolutions but left the core gameplay intact I'd imagine they'd gain a whole new set of fans. I mean what's not to love upping the salt on the fries so you can sell more soft drinks.

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
Mordor to me is a pretty perfect "collection game"
I sometimes just like to sit back, play a podcast and do some mindless activities in games (f.e. collecting collectibles) and Mordor is just perfect for that.
Everything is marked on a map so I don't have to use a guide, you can get everywhere pretty fast (unlike AC IV f.e.) and there aren't a bazillion collectibles everywhere.
Combat is pretty underwhelming imho. I tried something and stood in a horde of like 15+ orcs for a minute and none of them were able to even touch me cause you can just block everything with the press of a button.
I stopped killing captains now cause I almost feel bad for it. They just are not challenging at all. So I let them run away and level up without interrupting them, otherwise the game would be even easier. You go have some fun too Orcs. I won't spoil your feasts anymore.
The first time I killed one of the big warchiefs was pretty underwhelming too. He had a great entrance with people chanting his name......and then I just jumped from a tower and killed him with one hit cause apparently he was vulnerable to stealth attacks. A bit anticlimactic. Still a good game though, I just wish you could adust the difficulty level.
Also some needless pandering to LotR fans, I have no idea why Gollum has to be in every LotR game.

I think the combat is pretty fun, even if there isn't as much variety as I would have like. But I wouldn't say it's easy. Having Captains being vulnerable and resistant against certain things mean you have to be creative in taking them down. If you have a guy who is vulnerable to stealth but he's surrounded by people. You have to kill everyone around him and then sneak away, come back behind him later and finish the job.

I feel like you really have to take things into consideration and plan your approach first. I guess you got lucky with your first boss and his vulnerability to stealth attacks.

Also Gollum is like the Joker of The Lord of the Rings. He's in everything.

Also Dragonfall DLC? You must confused me with someone good sir.

Yeah....or I can just continue to hit him until he falls over. That's my problem with the game, there are all these cool tricks and weaknesses to the orcs but you can also kill them just as easy by punching them really hard. That's why I let them level up :D
