THE EVIL WITHIN is the real deal! (UK Demo impressions)

Supposedly this is going to be the last game Mikami directs. Part of his mission for Tango is to give aspiring young directors a shot.

I thought he retracted, or corrected this statement a long time ago as not being accurate?

Evil Within ad just aired during The Strain. Curious if ads will show during American Horror Story and Walking Dead

That show is so awful, and like against all logic, I kept watching it hoping it would get better. It can't make up its mind what it wants to be a) a campy B horror show or b) a family drama (that doesn't ever work at all).
It doesn't have the chops to be The Walking Dead, so it should just stop trying and revel in its camp side.

He did.

In an interview with Famitsu shortly after joining Bethesda, Mikami said that his first game for Tango would be the last he would direct himself, in part to create opportunities for others.

"I can only last for so long handling both director and company president duties, and besides, I want to give our younger developers a chance," he said. "Knowing that, of course, makes me want to put all of my experience, my energy and everything else I've got into this game. I'm pretty lucky that [Bethesda] was willing to accept that, too. Too many publishers are only interested in the very near future, after all."

Those comments led to reports online of Mikami planning to retire as a director, which he says didn't go over well with higher-ups at Bethesda and may not end up being true.

"I probably shouldn't have said that," says Mikami. "My bosses were pretty upset. That was something I decided before I started Tango, that the next project would be my last. ... I was thinking back then that I would have to spend more time managing the studio and training people rather than directing. But now because Tango is part of Bethesda, I have less management overhead. So I have more time to get involved with a game than I originally thought I would."

At this point, Mikami says he doesn't know who will direct Tango's next game. It might be him. It might be someone else at Tango. In his interview answers, he bounces back and forth between his desires to lead projects and to give team members chances to lead their own.

No U.S. bundles for this correct? Any chance for one at this point?

The Destiny Bundle is the only US one thus far; Europe and Asia seem much better about bundling, but not SCEA. Best bet is find one of those $360 online deals for the system and get the dell $25 gift card deal if you want physical and the PSN 10% off deal if you want digital. Or if you meant Xbox1, then I am sorry for rambling... there I would search for good retail bundles (maybe some place offering Destiny free still or maybe even Fortza Horizon!) and then pick up the game.

So fucking excited for this game. It honestly feels like this will be my true first next generation experience with Sunset Overdrive soon after. I really have high expectations for this. Horror is everything to me.

Are you watching the same show?

Yes, and it's pretty bad; yet I've still managed to watch every episode praying it would improve. I could list the series I've watched over the years that I consider good to great if that would help clear up any issues.

Just watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the first time and saw some of it's influence on the game; sunflower fields + chainsaws. Highly recommend it, it's a very gritty, intense movie.

That movie is a classic. What I find the most terrifying is
how he'll drag someone away and just store their body someplace
that and when he
dances at the end

A movie that caught my eye was The Collector. That's if you're looking for a good (decent) horror movie for October.

Thanks. I really wanted a white PS4 so I'll probably get the destiny bundle and sell it and put it towards TEW.

The original, or the remake?

There's also Oculus and Afflicted (which is basically the vampire version of Chronicle, but it's surprisingly great).

Yeah man, something about his
sliding metal door to his workshop
creeped me the fuck out, too.

In always looking for more fun horror movies, so I'll check out the collector.

Yeah those scenes were great. But I always thought the
dinner scene with granpa was the most disturbing thing in the movie. The finger licking, ughhh
.

I've never seen the original, but I really enjoyed seeing Jessica Biel in the remake. Her looks were the only thing that kept me watching, the movie was terrible.

Her outfit was just too much. I didn't even think it was such a terrible movie. It was okay ... definitly better than the defecation of Rob Zombie called Halloween ...

Beyond pumped for this game. Been waiting 9 years for it and trying not to watch any trailers for it. I hope its as meaty as RE4 and I am deff getting the season pass for all the DLC

It was better than average, for Hollywood horror. And yes, definitely better than RZ's Halloween abomination.

The only Hollywood horror film I've really enjoyed in the last few years was Cabin in The Woods. And not really because it was scary (it wasn't).

hell, i even enjoyed the last one (3D). i have a very low threshold for horror. :D

i should probably start hanging out in this thread...

YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! We finally have some footage (the usual mansion footage) of the final build of the game! Click.

Be warned that the commentary is awful, and the guy is the French version of PewDiePie, but it's still worth watching!

* He's playing the PS4 version.
* New female screams have been added when burning female enemies.
* You can see the grenade in action for the first time.
* The camera goes into a FPS view every time you aim.
* Essential items (the two dials) now glow. It's very similar to the glow when you pick up dropped items in RE4.
* Enemies can bust open doors naturally (it's not always scripted).
* Enemies now throw weapons like in RE4.
* Ammo is still scarce - like really scarce!
* The framerate looks rock solid.
* I noticed a weird glitch where the tree branch shadows kept on spazzing out.

Overall the main thing I took away from watching this is just how polished the game looks now. It's come so damn far!

Well, at least you mentioned Jessica Biel. It's too bad her career seemed to have been shot in the head after her last remake.

Jessica Biel no doubt looked hot as usual and was great. But R. Lee Ermy made that movie. The follow up prequel as well.

!

While my French is nothing special, this sounds an awful lot like Spanish to me. And holy shit that guy is annoying. I didn't even watch but a few seconds of the video, but then let the audio continue.

Damn, there are some GLITCHY ass shadows in that video.

Shadows are terrible in 90% of games sadly ... And its the ps4 version. I like the zoom in. Perfect when aiming with a mouse

Edit: texture streaming works like a charm here. A first for id tech 5

Good point, although I expect to see more of that in the outdoor environments.

I'm surprised with the performance from this footage considering the engine, but yeah - outdoor environments might cause some slow texture loading.

EDIT: The lighting is pretty impressive. The game has some pretty great shadows. Hopefully that shadow glitch is a rare occurrence and not common.

I'll be playing this game with overscan turned on just to reduce those borders a little. That's how much I hate borders.

I don't even notice the black borders are there while watching the video, and I sure as hell won't notice them when I'm actually playing the game.
