Playstation TV Thread: Vita Who?

If this used SD cards I'd be all over it. But there is no way I'm paying for a bunch of Sony Memory cards. Fuck them.

Oh joy, the forums get to hear the same arguments rehashed for a new machine. The cards are no longer expensive, if you wanted one then you would get one. Clearly you don't.

Here is the real price of the Playstation TV in the UK (Everything you need to get going):

1. PS TV - £85
2. Dualshock 4 - £40
3. 64GB Memory Card - £80

= £205 ($329)

You can buy a 500GB PS3 for less.....

Yeah you can, what you can't do with that PS3 is remote play to a PS4 anywhere in the world, with this I can have it setup at my partners flat and play on my PS4 anytime that I want to.

While I do agree with a 64GB memory card, I don't agree with a DS4, specially if you can get a DS3 for much cheaper.

But Falcom had to release a patch, I don't know if XSEED has done so yet.
Didn't Xseed comment that a patch may not happen for some reason? Something to do with Falcom.

I swear I remember it being mentioned not long back.

Bullshit.

You don't need a 64GB memory card OR to buy a Dualshock 4. There's a perfectly functional bundle with an 8Gb memory card and if you need another, a 16GB card is more than enough space.

So I don't own a vita (yet).
But I do have some vita games on my PSN because of PSPLUS and sales.

Do I need a vita memory card to save my progress or CAN games be saved on the PS TV?

I just did a quick check on Amazon and a Sony 64gb SD card is $30-$35. A 64gb Sony proprietary memory card usable in PSTV is $90-$100. That is roughly 300% more expensive. What are you talking about?

Just canceled my pre-order. I really want PS TV when announced but as an owner of Vita and PS4 I can't really come up with a reason why I need a PS TV. Such a shame. It looks so neat.

C'mon, this simply isn't true, the 64GB card is 3 times the cost of a similar SD card. Sony should be called out at every opportunity for that kind of gouging.
Have they altered the Vita "bubble" menu for the TV version? Just got a PS4 and am now vaguely interested in one of these for multi room streaming.

The point is that if Sony didn't force their proprietary memory cards on us then we could pick up a 64gb SD card for 1/3rd the price. That's pretty significant. And, I'm sorry but "buy a smaller card" doesn't cut it. An 8gb or 16gb card is about as useful as a square wheel.

There is one gig of internal memory. You'll be able to have some smaller indies on there.

DLNA is the single feature that will make me get one. It would be so awesome to have such a small portable device as a media player.

Some actual codec/container compatibility would also be nice but I think I'm asking for too much here.

Actually NY mark down everything, so no customs fees. SAL postage probably wouldn't be more than £4-5 on top.

Depending on the country, it doesn't matter. I imported one OG 3DS once, I really paid $130 for it, but customs charged me taxes regarding the "real" price of $250.

Damn it, if I'd known that Asian consoles would now allow US/UK sign-ins I would've bought a white one when I was in Asia over the summer :(

Sony has an opportunity to carve out a niche with this thing if they make it easily rootable and/or allow XBMC to be side-loaded. I think there is zero chance of that happening, but u never know.

I would love to see a native Plex app on this.

£2 for airmail and they mark down the packages so no import fees. Next complaint?

Sorry, but I get charged a lot when importing. So you can argue all you want. I am not importing memory cards from the other side of the world.

Even then, £56 for 64GB is still a joke in this day and age (£25 for the same size SD card LOL). The only reason Sony get away with it is because people like you will just pay whatever they ask.

I will let it go now. But I just wanted to make it clear how much it bothers me (And should bother you too)

Really? Where's the source on this?
I can use my UK account on my Japanese Vita TV now(Have been able to since whenever 3.30 came out, sometime middle of last week). The only thing I can't do is access the PSN store. I'd imagine thats because the Playstation TV store doesn't exist until the release date here. It's not the end of the world either if you own a vita, can just download everything you need on your vita and pop the memory card back in your TV.

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
I'll be grabbing this on launch.
Was happy to see every title I still need to play is supported.
So it will be fun to play on the go and then on the TV.

Its exactly what I use mine for am sure you will have a good time. Just remember though if your games have DLC you need to have the exact same stuff on both machines.

Just don't buy it sheesh. It is the same tired old argument for 3 years now.

except they are still expensive. you can buy an micro sdhc 64-gb card from samsung for under $40.

i don't disagree that the topic has been discuss ad nauseam, but you can make that argument and still be honest with yourself about the cost of memory cards

Will possibly pick one up around launch if I can find a good deal.
What are the chances of this ever supporting an external hard drive?

Never. They don't even reduce the memory card prices lol.

Will buy one too when it launches in Europe due to having PS4 in every room \o/ And also for my new apartment so that my dad will be able to play at his home from my new home. :)

I guess some countries are more proactive about customs than others. They are pretty lazy in the UK, I've had huge figure boxes shipped from NY that they've marked down to $5 and they never bat an eyelid.

Will be getting one, 90% of the reason is just to future-proof my Vita/PSP collection as I suspect this machine will last a lot longer than my Vita. I still own a fully-functional PS1; PSOne; PS2 & PS3, but my DS and original PSP are bust.

Hope the compatibility list grows.

I think it is great for kids. Even a small memory card can fit dozens of PSOne, psp, and vita indies. The use case for hard-core gamers is limited though.

Depends on the game. I think Final Fantasy VII and VIII would take up a full 4GB card :p

I genuinely do not understand your pricing here. You seem to have shot for as high as you can get for 64GB card (£60 seems to be the going rate these days - I got mine for £55) but you've just picked an average price for the Dualshock 4 (if you were in the business of making it look like a bad deal, pick the £55 it costs to get a DS4 in HMV).

probably going to get one to play games like Senran Kagura and Muramasa on, because I think trying to play action-heavy games on Vita is less than ideal. Maybe my hands are just too big.

also it's odd that Ateliers Totori and Meruru work on this but Rorona doesn't?

Depends on how many games you want ;)

(Also, I need a DS4, as DS3's give me hand ache)

I would assume anyone getting a TVita would go physical where possible, as there's no real disadvantage to physical media in a stationary console. Sure, you won't have your entire PS1 catalog available on it, but that's what your PS3 is for.

Is a 64gb card helpful and convenient? Yes. Is it necessity? Not at all. Just like having a DS4 is nice, but not necessary.

A 8 or 16gb card is fine, and the proprietary cards are a security measure, which I get after how quickly the Wii and Xbox 360 were cracked. Blame pirates for the extra security: they're the reason you don't get SD cards on Vita.
