"Check out why Xbox is the best place to play" Page of Xbox Exclusives

I just wish Microsoft brought it with the system power, because they're doing pretty good bringing the games.

It's like the console power this generation is inversely proportional to quality of exclusive output so far. Nintendo winning exclusive quality with weakest system, Xbox in the middle, Sony having strongest system that needs to up its exclusive quality game. MCC might be old games, but what a fucking compelling package they've put together.

(I think Bloodbourne is going to bring it though.)

Majority of their market don't give a shit about 1080p/720p 30/60fps and simply want a console they can play cool games on....myself included

This 1080/720 30/60 fps crap really needs to die as if this is all people are going to concentrate on while playing a game then they may as well not be playing

The late 80s and 90s had a real miss mash of consoles and capabilities but instead we remember them for their gameplay and cool innovation. ....not if their they were 30 fps or a higher resolution

Seems like a very gen y thing

I don't think we have really been shown what next gen is yet...too many people think it's a number and a frame count

Why do you have to pick "sides" (whether sarcastic or not).

Its a goddamn list of video games. I understand people arguing the semantics, but why are so many people salty over it being posted? Boggles my mind.

It's just kinda strange for someone to link an infographic/ad made by a company just so "potential console buyers might want to see what" they can get. Basically acting as a sales person

Great games available yet the exclusives wouldn't sway me alone and the practice itself is shitty.

Let's be realistic now; there's no way anyone on this site is going to believe thats a very good ad.

If you really sense there's a problem, PM a mod and they can check it out but there's no point in calling out OP.

What because there are no exclusives on the PS4?

I have far more exclusive games for my PS4 than I have on my Xbox One. And that's nothing to do with the fact that I just got my Xbox one last week.

Besides the 2 Forza games there are no exclusives that interest me that have come out so far.

Its all dependant on tastes.

To be fair to Sony, they do a much better job of spreading out their exclusives. InFamous, MLB The Show, Transistor, Last of Us, Velocity 2X, Final Fantasy XIV and others all already came and went. For a good portion of the year, Microsoft's only big exclusive was Titanfall.
Whether this impression was true or not interested me, so I went and counted up exclusive U.S. retail releases per quarter since launch for PS4 and One.

Note that I have used the loosest possible definition of "exclusive" here: it counts even if it's on PC, or another machine by the same company. I did this because even with such wide latitude, the absolute numbers are still very low; being even more restrictive drops the data into the realm of noise. But of course feel free to re-compare more rigidly if you're so inclined.

That said, here's the data:

Code:
        PS4 One
Q4 '13 2 5
Q1 '14 3 1
Q2 '14 2 1
Q3 '14 2 1
Q4 '14 3 5

The hypothesis seems pretty strongly supported. (Caveats about small sample size, etc.) Microsoft have gone all out for the holidays, with a minimal schedule for the nine months between. Sony have spread exclusives out far more evenly. This could be coincidence, but it's intriguing to think that it showcases two different strategies.

All this add really succeeds at doing for me is reminding me about all the timed exclusive bullshit MS has lined up for themselves. Seriously Dragon Age DLC is timed exclusive too?!?! I wish this anti consumer "strategy" would just die a painful death already.

Sony do a good job of ensuring their 1st party games are not competing with each other and have the best chance of success.

All 3 of them? Lol. It's a decent lineup (especially compared to Sony's) but the Xbone is still very much ramping up. Next year will be better for Sony and Microsoft.

They forgot to put Killer Instinct and D4 on that page. Having an exclusive high quality fighting game is a big deal.

Horizon 2 is probably the best next gen game thus far. I bought the XB1 for Halo:MCC. As long as the servers are online, that game will never leave my rotation. One more month...

As someone who doesn't own a PS4 or an Xbone I'd really like to play Forza Horizon 2. Probably just gonna pick up a Gaming PC followed by a PS4 though. Sorry Microsoft D:

I mean we can't say they are lying about exclusives since their competitor only has one exclusive this fall, two it you count LBP.

Not counting LBP3 because it is also on the PS3 eh?

Yeah I sure am a PS4 fan, right along with my 360 and Wii and future Xbone and Wii U. It's not nice to assume you know.

I love this. The rawness, the hurt emotion that leaps off the page as you enter into a defensive state, the need, nay, driving desire, to make it clear you someday intend to purchase an X1.

Truly amazing.

Sony can't even launch the single exclusive it has properly.

Yeh meanwhile Forza Horizon 2 has been perfect without any server downtime and without causing consoles to crash randomly while collecting and updating leader board data.

Give me a break.

lol those quotes. Who the fuck is RTVE.es ? Focus on quality of games ? And why then are all multiplat games constant worse then on the rivals console ? Listening to users ? Like the shitstorm over DRM and the backpaddling is now a plus in MS books ?

I'm not impressed with the exclusive list either. Shooters and Forza is all I see. Not very rich in variety

I'm not sure that's really it. Those large year-end pulses of One exclusives are in diverse styles/genres: Kinect games, racers, FPS, action, etc. I doubt they really compete all that much for the same audience.

If this is a real trend and not just pattern imposition, I'd attribute it more to active tactics than just "Oops, all our games came out at once!" Microsoft seem actively to pursue a more Hollywood-esque tentpole approach (though with just winter, rather than summer/winter). This builds the major release season into an Event, a magnet for attention and coverage. It prioritizes consumer excitement and anticipation about the brand.

Sony, on the other hand, act more like a content channel: yes there's some attention to the big season, but the strategy is more focused on retaining consumer buy-in over the course of the year. Releases are comfort food, regular instances of company involvement. This prioritizes consumer identification and satisfaction with the brand.

Or, I could easily be reading too much into a release schedule that ended up this way due to a million unrelated reasons, rather than a tightly unified marketing plan.

Eh, the ad seems fine to me. But I own both consoles. And to be honest, the Xbox has Halo and SO coming out this fall which are, to me, about 100 times more interesting than another LittleBigPlanet game. No offense to the LBP fans but I hated the first game and have no interest in the third version.
