Who are they going to have for the GOTY podcast anyway?

Jeff and Brad obviously. Dan almost definitely. Drew barely plays most games though. And Rorie? I forget what the lineup was last year.

Jeff, Brad, Dan, Drew, Patrick, Alex and Vinny is my prediction. Rorie most definitely won't be on, Jason *maybe*. But I doubt it since they're already a sizeable group.

Patrick may fly in like last year. One of the Beast members might fly in as well perhaps (crossing my fingers for Vinny.) I thought Drew was good on the GOTY podcasts last year but it seems like he has played even fewer games this year then last.

Highly doubt Vinny will be on, going by his tweets about not having a console/PC for 6 months now, and not getting that back until he moves in January.

Also, they reeeeeeally need to shut off the comments under this Bombin' video. Alex going all in against harassment and all that shit right now. A really good discussion all around I think.

Weird discussion in this thread lately. GOTY predictions so early on and now predictions on who will be on the GOTY discussions...

Yes, I'll agree with you. The Strikes/Dailies/Weeklies are repeated content. But that's just things you do, checkboxes you tick during the week while waiting for the raid timers to reset to do them again. Doing PvP (either in Destiny or any multiplayer oriented FPS) and grinding reputation (be it in Destiny or in any MMO) is quite literally the same thing. People prestige 5 times in CoD, and they're technically just doing the same content over and over again.

The Strikes are nice equivalents of "Dungeons" on MMOs: An easier encounter you do with less people to get items (and, in Destiny's case, grind reputation/strange coins to exchange for items) while you wait for the raid timers to reset. And since they're easier, you don't need your core group of friends to do them with, which is why they have matchmaking.

Don't get me wrong: Repetition is the base of MMOs in general (And PSO, and Destiny, and Diablo...) You might not like it, and you don't have to, but that's what grinding is all about. If you deconstruct everything, everything is always the same. That's why the saying "MMOs are all the same, you just point and click at somebody until they die" exists. It's not wrong, it's all repetition. How it's presented to you and how you do it is the different part. And in that aspect, Destiny seems like a great game (I only played the Beta and i've been following a group of friends playing the game/talking about it/reading about it/watching streams, mostly).

I'm not complaining about the repetition, I'm saying I don't agree with you that Destiny is just like other MMOs where the level up content is designed to be "one and done" and so its OK if that content is flat. Everything you see from 1-20 is exactly what you'll see from 20-30, I think they should have put a lot more effort into it. Also, the raid too is just another "check box" -- all of this stuff is in service of character progression.

The environment will most certainly be re-used: This is not WOW, where the environment is a 6 polygon model with low res textures applied to it. Personally, I would expect the DLC raids to be different in that aspect as well, along with new enemies inside the existing factions - most of the current enemies are just palette swaps of old enemies, but I have a feeling we will only get new bosses - Again, just like PSO.

We're talking about an environment that is mostly just giant grey tetris blocks. The game has some incredible visuals but the raid is absolutely not one of those places once youre inside. As for DLC, considering the price they are asking, I certainly hope its not just more copy+pasta.

That's a very nice mechanic loop. You learn different new mechanics you never seen before, you hone them in, you apply them all together in the last boss.

Like I told the other guy, that is a fair point; I still wish there was more of it and that the hard mode had more of its own unique challenges and rewards.

I got caught up on Naruto over the last week.

I now know every single character that was on that Naruto QL a few weeks go.

It still seems insane.

I'm gonna agree with this. I play some MMOs but I don't raid. The thing with every MMO is that there is so much content or new environments in the quest to max level that I never feel "bad" that I don't raid. It's just not for me and that's fine. I personally feel that I got my money's worth and spent enough time with the game.

Destiny on the other hand is a total rip. I do feel like I'm missing something in the Raid, not because its a Raid but because its content. If my quest to 30 (or 29) was all new stuff I really wouldn't care. But as you said, its the same shit from 1-20 as 20-30.

That said, I do enjoy the gameplay, but often at time I feel the game hates me (better post patch though).

The Massive Chalice Quick Look, although I am keeping up with the Unprofessional Fridays stuff.

The QLs you should absolutely not skip over are (imo): Lethal League, The Sims 4, Hatoful Boyfriend, D4, The Hat Man, Neverending Nightmares, Fenix Rage, Alien: Isolation.

I'd also include Vib-Ribbon, but mostly for Brad and Jeff geeking out and getting nostalgic about the game.

edit: If you're not caught up on Unfinished videos either, Gang Beasts is fantastic.

Thanks. Yeah, I made sure to check out Gang Beasts as soon as it went up after everyone teased Dan about it on some UPFs. There was no way he wasn't going to like it but all the same, his child-like glee about the dumbest things is infectious.

I think people have noticed since the beginning of 2014 that this year has been a shit year for AAA games. AAA usually take the top spots on GB's GOTY list. It's been a bad year and GB fans are wondering how Jeff and Co. are going to rate this year's scant offerings.

I knew Jeff was going to hate BL PS, that was a given. he did not care for the style and story in BL2 and they went on with that.

I LOVE BL2 and looking forward to BL PS.

And I respect GB just as much even tough my favorite reviewer does not like a game that I like.
I'm ok with that.

Brad was the MVP of that video. His short moment of triumph was such a classic.

I think all of you are forgetting the potential that Far Cry 4 has by being the game that 3 should have been
(at least I hope so)

Ive really been on the fence about Pre-sequel. When it was announced, I was sure it was going to be a pretty awful game and a glorified expansion pack to BL2, but the closer it gets the more interested I am in it. I will really have to check out some coverage before I pull the trigger though.

We must have different definitions of the word "hate" then, because that one tweet didn't really imply that reaction. He may still enjoy other parts of it, just seems put off by the story and a mechanic.

i'm surprised that the presequel came out so soon. i didn't realize enough new memes were generated in the time between games to fill out the presequel's script

Has Dan ever talked about Borderlands 2? I wonder if he played the Mr Torgue dlc. I thought it was a fairly amusing wrestling parody.

Has a game ever been on Giant Bomb's Top 10 and Most Disappointing list? I have a feeling Jeff is going to make sure Destiny is on the Most Disappointing list and Brad is going to filibuster to get it somewhere on the Top 10.

Played it for 1 hour at gamescom and it was fantastic, just like BL2 but on the moon, the thing is if you don't like were BL was going with 2 its not going to appeal to you.
If you hate Clapt Trap you will hate this game.
If you LOVED BL2 and put 250 hours into it like me then you going to love TPS.

Sure maybe hate is strong but he was not going to love it anyway its more BL2 and jeff just did not care for the story and style of BL2 this is no different.
In fact its just more of it.

He's said he played like 60+ hrs of bl2 or something

I found his Game Informer article on the dlc.

Along the way, you’ll have the hilarious Mr. Torgue barking in your ear. All of his sentences sound like they’d be right at home in a 1980s pro wrestling promo, and he’s prone to attempt guitar solos using his voice when he gets especially excited. Plenty of humorous characters have inhabited Pandora across these two games, and I found myself laughing at Torgue just as frequently as mainstays like Scooter and Marcus.

Interested to hear what he thinks of the pre sequel.

Ironically, it was Destiny pulling a faceplant that got me the most excited about Borderlands.

And I LOVED Borderlands and Borderlands 2.

Well Mr. Torque is hands down the best character in the BL universe. Tiny Tina's Dungeon Romp (or whatever it was actually called) went downhill after his bit was over.
