Ubisoft says that MS & Sony are 'pressuring them' into 30FPS on PC; Phil: Not true

i don't have a clue. please enlighten me.

Cert is basic checking to see if the game impacts the console experience. They don't care about content (unless of course your game is about something crazy offensive) and they don't even look at content. They run a bunch of tests to make sure your game doesn't break the system, their services, or anything on their end. (And of course that the game is playable).

well i knew that...how does that disprove that MS is telling Ubi to lock the frame rate at 30fps for the PC version?

I don't believe this story (if true that would suck for PC gamers).

Well, the first line opens up with what they go through for certification and that first line is known to be false. Not much credibility for the rest of the story after that point.

Damn, Ubisoft is on a rampage.*

I find it hard to believe a random group of kids [they seem very young in the picture] ask hard-hitting questions about framerates to a bunch of random Ubisoft employees giving a presentation at a school. Let alone have the Ubisoft people straight up saying stuff like that about Microsoft.

You've got a point there

"he implied that MS is making them lock the framerate on PC too".

NoeGaf: Ok, so maybe you can feed the general public this bullshit, but what about us?

Ubisoft: You are the eventuality of an anomaly which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control.

Picture of Ubisoft slideshow in a classroom is all I needed. Fuck you Ubisoft and fuck forced parity. Why is it so horrible to want the best possible gaming experience for everyone's individual setup. Seriously, even gimping PC?

Guys, think about this for two seconds

1) That's not how cert works

2) There have been WAY more not-30fps-framelocked PC ports than framelocked ones, including those games coming from the Xbox One (Dead Rising, Ryse). No pressuring is happening

I know people are freaking about over this whole parity thing, but calm yourselves.

Right, that explains all the DLC for Destiny only available on Sony systems!

And all the fucking other games that run better on PS4 and PC
Gerighty seemed to be indicating exceptions happen, since he had hopes of "slipping it past MS." Otherwise he wouldn't have wasted the time and money to implement the feature in the first place.

Unfortunately, even though they already had it working, the feature didn't make it in to the game, for whatever reason.

Microsoft won't let you think there's a console or PC more powerful than Xbox one.

Because they want you to feel like first class citizens.

Internally, I believe this is being referred to as "Operation Headwind" -- it's a Microsoft initiative designed to ensure developer compliance and provide reeducation where necessary, and to codify into domestic and international trade law certain concerns which are to be subject to parity restrictions.

Initiatives like this make it clear that Microsoft has the will and the means to win this fight and that if a battle cannot be won in the arena of public opinion, then Microsoft will take that fight to whatever theatre best affords them the chance of victory.

Before anyone here thinks about posting any snap judgments, consider the following:

a) This "Online Programmer", what is their name (I understand anonymity would help with job security, but you already pinned down their title which I imagine is already thinning the list quite a bit)?

b) what is the name of the school this person visited, and perhaps a more specific title for the lecture or whatever the hell they were doing there specifically?

c) is there any actual proof that any of this occurred?

Seems like someone's just trying to start more shit, which is funny considering Ubisoft really doesn't need anymore considering their current track record.

To be fair no one implied they were working on Unity or FC4. Guy in the pic is wearing a Watch Dogs shirt so maybe they are from that team. The tech team at Montreal is ~250 people, they aren't all working on games shipping this year.

Isn't the PC version of Ryse 60fps? I don't see why MS would let Crytek do that and then tell Ubisoft to lock it.

Wow didn't know I couldn't see more than 24 fps. Thanks Ubisoft!

Also were they speaking at a middle school?

Eh...kind of hard to believe this stuff since it all sounds so stupid.

Doesn't sound very credible, but it's not like i would be even surprised.

That said, even if the photo is legit, and they had Ubi at their school lecturing, it doesn't mean the content of the post is real.

Correct. Unless the ESRB, PEGI, etc. rate you in a way that the manufactures wont allow you to release a game, content is not what's going to keep your game from release. All the console manufactures will check for is if it will brick the system or otherwise cause instability.
As someone who worked in QA for a console manufacturer for 8 years, that isn't all you check. You test the content, game play etc...

You don't test resolution against rival consoles though. If shit like that happens, I'm pretty sure it doesn't happen at the lowest rung on the game industry ladder.

Don't know who the people are but that redditer mentioned the school:

Grenoble INP - Ensimag, the best computer science and applied mathematics school in France :)

and a photo of it

Honestly, this the most important topic going on right now and its mostly being brushed off. We should demand an answer from Ubisoft and Microsoft. Do we know if its true? We don't but we need to find out. This parity will affect videogamers everywhere on every gaming setup.

Honestly, this is the biggest FUD topic going on right now and I feel dirty for even replying to your post and bumping it

Unless you're being sarcastic, in which case that's on me.

Dead serious. How is gimping games and selling people handicapped products ok with anyone? It's not about resolution.

I'd like to know exactly what words the dev used to "imply" ms were trying to force 30fps on pc.

Am also very interested in the use of Azure... Is that on ps4 too? And does it imply an always online game?

This write up is just a bit too vague for my liking.

I, and everyone else, should have expected 30FPS.

The framerate being locked isn't the issue. The resolution is. How is it people miss this?

"But it gets better: the Game Architect said that they always try to aim for 60FPS, but due to "limitations", they have been settling at 30FPS for their latest games. He continued, saying that console makers are pressuring them into doing the same thing on P"
Wait, WTF?!

Ryse is published by Crytek and they own the rights to the game. Also its a graphical oriented company, they would never lock fps on PC.

Wait, this report is actually real due to the photo evidence?
Eh...I guess joking around about MS moneyhatting for parity could potentially turn out to be true, geez...Great PR weeks.
Its not only Microsoft, but Sony too going by the quote.

Holy shit! I cannot believe he said that. I also cannot wait for the back paddling and the usual misquoted statement. I also hope that silences people defending companies and spreading the nonsense that they care about the gamers!
