Am playing for the first time; up to the end of Chapter V. Started playing on normal and haven't had too many problems so far. I am really enjoying it and I can totally see why people love the combat. I think I would go as far to say I prefer the combat in this over TW101's at this point, while preferring TW101's story and characters (and I know, I've only just begun so that may change). Certainly, the combat system 'clicked' more readily for me here. It feels so satisfying doing everything; from pulling off combos to activating Witch Time. I'm still in a 'not-100%-sure-what-I'm-doing' stage, but I'm loving every second.
Still, after beating Chapter V, I can't believe I managed to remain un-spoiled about the
for 5 years.
The costumes included are are fun to play with. I honestly can't believe Nintendo approved a Peach/Daisy costume with (very) visible underwear, but I guess I find it amusing in it's heavy-handedness. I think I like the Samus costume the best, though.
Also, the Japanese dub is pretty good. My understanding is that it was recorded (with a new script written from scratch by Kamiya) specifically for the Wii U port. It has the same VO as the movie/2nd game, I think, too.
Overall, I wish that I'd paid more attention to gaming when this came out and had got it, but as it would have been for the PS3, at the same time I'm kind of glad that this is my first experience of the game.

My wife's gonna wonder what the fuck is wrong with me when I rock out to La Roux prior to playing this tomorrow. Glad to finally play this since PS3 version was such a mess.

Oh I wish the european version of Bayo 1 came out a few weeks before the sequel. It's gonna be painful playing through the first game (that I've never played) while Bayo 2 will be sitting on the hard drive untouched.

Its a shame the old sega forums went down. Someone there translated everything in the game, from the summons to the markings of her sword attacks. It was a fasinating read.

statue. This is French for "The door of heaven".
-Chapter IX, you will find a machine that changes the day into night when you
activate it. Written on the device is PDQ NIGHT which I imagine stands for
"Pretty Damn Quick Night!"
-Chapter XII, on the aircraft there is a large metal ring you see when you are
outside which has script all over it. It says ABCEFGHIJKLMOP repeated..
-On Chapter XV, when you are in the circular room and abou to run up the walls
there is a small glowing path that leads to the twirl pole. On the path seems
to be a random assortment of numbers in Angelic script. Perhaps meant to be
a computer program or something? Reminds me of the Matrix..
-Near the end of this same chapter, running up the glowing path to
Balder's room there are words circling that say HERE IS WHERE REALITIES MEET.

I have no idea what that might mean.
-On the door to his room, and inside on the giant round window that Bayonetta

The demon alphabet is a lot easier to understand from a glance than the angel
one. Most of the letters are stylised versions of the normal alphabet,
although the numbers are quite tricky to spot. Most of the INTERESTING text in
the game is in demon script too.. not so many boring signposts!
-When you mash the button for torture attacks and climax finishes, the letters
that come up on the wheel are P U N I S H I T. PUNISH IT.
-And when making concoctions, the letters on the same wheel now say C O N C O
C T ! CONCOCT! (The exclaimation mark being the last letter to appear).
-Bayonetta's hair ribbon says BAYONETTABAYONETTABAYONETTA all the way down the
length.
-The demon portals that you see all over the game, including the Gates of
Hell's portals, and the ones that summon wicked weaves etc. say FROM THE
DARKNESS I DRAW MY STRENGTH.

-The clock in the very first level, and later seen again in Chapter IX, says
A CLOCK TOWER OF THE LOVE.

letters flicking very quickly. From what I can gather, they are all the
letters for BAYONETTA and JEANNE.
-When Bayonetta does her guillotine torture attack, the device itself has

-And of course, the torture wheel used on Faith and Fearless says WHEEL OF

-In the motorcycle ride of Chapter VIII, the speedometer at the side of the

-At the start of Chapter XIV (the Space Harrier one), Bayonetta is standing

-In this same chapter, just before each boss fight, it will have an "!" in a
warning triangle. Below that it says AN INTRUDER HAS PENETRATED YOUR FORCE
FIELD!!

-Except for the fight against Temperance, where it says

or in fact maybe 1411.12.19, as there are no breaks between the characters.

If you don't know, Enochian is an invented language from the 16th century,
created by Dr. John Dee and his seer Edward Kelley. They claimed it was the
secret language of angels, and since then many occult-loving types have used
it for spells and such.
The creators of Bayonetta thought it would be a nice touch to have all the
angels speak Enochian in the game, and it is also used for Bayonetta's
summons and spells. There is an interesting blog post about it here:

This section will be difficult to finish, as information on Enochian isn't
easy to come by. Also, it relies on being about to understand unfamiliar words
that Bayonetta is saying. Luckily the angels are subtitled in long speeches,
but there are still a few phrases in the game that would be interesting to
translate...
This is the Enochian I've managed to work out in game.
-Torture attack, winch and chain - PIADPH (The Depths of my Jaws).
-Torture attack, guillotine - PIR ZIXLAY (Holy Ones Stirred Up).
-Torture attack, wheel of torture - TELOCH (Death). "Teeeeeloch!"

(There is some controversy over this one, a blog post at Platinum games here

sound like that at all.. I've a feeling a sound file was mixed up in the

-And PAMPHICAS, which I cannot find a direct meaning for. It is meant to be
used with a "contemptuous tone" though, so some sort of insult?

-Applaud angels seem to say, when summoning a golden pool to damage you,

UPDATE: This one has been confirmed by Platinum Games' JP Kellams, who was
responsible for much of the Enochian in Bayonetta in the first place.
-They also both seem to say, while attacking, ETHAR (Peace), but I'm not so
sure about this one.. it may be ETHARZI (In Peace), and the recording cut off
slightly.
-One of Joy's attacks, she seems to say GROSB A (The Bitter Sting). Maybe.
-And when Joy splits, she might say Z SOBA CORMF (They Whose Number Is). Not
sure though.

-And the faces on her hair seem to say:

After reading I found a (can be spoilery)wiki page with all the summons and what she's saying as well as the transaltion.
I thought she said only AVAVAGO (which sounds badass for some reason) but actually it's different for each demon :lol:

I think WiiU edition would be a better title, I was somewhat confused when I saw this thread on the front page, regardless, great OT..
That was my thoughts as well, I can see accidents happening with people thinking it's the OT for both games. Maybe add "1" next to the title of the game? Even if it would be, well, weird.

I'm so rusty on this game... I've been trying to do a no death run on chapter 5 (without items) and I just can't do it anymore (trying to remember if I ever did manage it!). Its a long chapter with several fairly intense fights.
I've remembered that I really hate the
One solid air combo and they decimate my health
Also, is there any way to enter witch time against the
sub boss bar dodging the fireball? My general method has been to hold down the shoot button and only attack when I enter witch time or he falls to the ground.
The
boss battle at the end of the chapter gets me sometimes as well. Its easily the highlight of the early chapters though, even if the camera thinks its fun to obscure your view at times...
What a game though, spent the last 6 hours playing through chapters 1-6 and replaying them. I haven't even unwrapped B2 yet!
I've remembered that I really hate the
tag team red/blue enemies (whatever their names are).

Trust me. Bayo 2 can wait. these are games you will be playing years from now. another couple days wont hurt.
Just make sure you read the journals as well as watch the cutscenes. Bayonetta gets criticised for a nonsensical story but if you put the effort in, its actually quite straight forward to follow.
Not only that, but I personally beleive running through the two games as one epic is one of the best gaming experiences you can ever have. Think Sonic 3 & knuckles :- Thats Bayonetta 1 and 2.

I know that. I want to know if I or someone else buys this a few months down the line if it will still include Bayonetta

Great OT! I've been playing the 360 version of Bayonetta a lot in anticipation of Bayonetta 2, and I don't even mind that I'll have to unlock everything again in the Wii U version.
I'm interested to see if there's any bonus content beyond the costumes that have been announced so far. Either way, it'll be an absolute pleasure to do a really thorough replay of this wonderful game.
