Someone offered me to buy a copy for a small markup. I might bite just to get that feeling of discovering a game without having been spoiled by the reviews (both in terms of narrative but mostly regarding the quality of the game).

Face it, there is no such thing as a positive AC or Ubisoft thread on GAF and there never will be. There are too many people who only care about shitstorms.

Judging by the nvidia trailer for this game, the PC version share the exact same lighting model. Which means no shadows indoors and non existent object reflections as well. Also the few reflections that are there are inaccurate, same as on consoles.

Looks like modders are going to have a ton of work to do once again lol.

Are there lights indoors in that scene?

graphics aside, this game is really gonna have to work to impress me after Shadows of Mordor, which was a far better "assassin" game than most of the stale AC material. If the sneaking and combat is better and there's a lot to do in the overworld with missions, I might actually pick it up. But it's still Ubisoft and they are still full of pre-release DLC low-fi horseshit so I'll wait til reviews are out.

As far as i see no. They could make AO a bit stronger but shadows are there.

Strong backed indirect lighting can fool the eye and comparing with other games you could miss a few shadows, but maybe is only your character is actually into the "shadows" while those shadows are not as darker as they used to be. The faked and wrong reflection under the window does not help.

Share with us your first impressions when you played a couple of hours, please! I'm still undecided and hesitate between this and GTA V.

I remember Ryse has similar shadow controversy (also on shiny floor)

I think the shadows are only present when the sunlight is hitting the object. They may have removed the lightning indoors.
They just use a single shadow-casting light source - as do most games in recent history (including every AC to date).
The exceptions are few - and fewer yet attempt to do anything resembling real global shadowing (where GI contributes more than just colored light-bounces).

No day/night cycle is a good thing for me. Most game with such a cycle have horribly shimmering shadows and switch lods multiple times when getting closer to them. AC2 had a really unpolished look because of all the shadow shimmering going on. I like the inFamous second son approach with fixed times of day much better.

Yeah, fixed is not a negative imo. As long as we are shown different times of day, I couldn't care less about seeing a constant slow transition for this game.

I didn't think I would be getting this day 1 with Halo coming out the same day, but it looks like I am now with that Target deal. Game looks great!

Ive just been rewatching this over and over for the music. Apparently someone streamed the first hour(?) of the game this morning, is there an archive or capture of that anywhere?

do you like assassins creed games to begin with?

Played them all.. this one looks like them.

I guess I'm of the opinion that if something looks "good" -- it stands out among it's competition. This game doesn't really stand out as being something superior to other games, but I digress.

It's certainly a big improvement over AC4, and it's definitely the best looking Ubi title. Especially the facial animation.

I don't get that in this demo. How is it the best looking Ubi title? What makes it look better than AC4? We only see a house and a boy walking around. How is it better looking than say, Watch Dogs?

It's a 720p compressed video. However from the video, the interiors already look better than Watch Dogs interiors. Especially the lighting. Character animation and cloth simulation also look better.

Why is it that every time I say I won't buy a certain game, something always sucks me back in?

movements look great.

lmao, exactly what i'm thinking... funnily enough, its the French VOs that made me want to get it. I'm gonna play it in french :)

I think this is the best looking open world game so far. Textures could be more detailed but it's easily forgiven when you think about the scale.

Sorry for the slightly OT but cross-posting myself from the PSN October thread:

Anyone else had this happen:

I have AC Unity pre-ordered from US PSN. It has been showing "pre-ordered"-status in the window with the countdown since I ordered it. Well, today I was just browsing the store and suddendly AC Unity is showing just the pre-order price, like I haven't purchased it? All my other pre-orders all still showing the "pre-ordered"-status. When I check the game in the Library, it does show the countdown, but also gives me the price option, unlike other pre-orders I can see in the Library.

WTF? Should I be worried there might be an issue with the pre-order?

EDIT: Seems to be an issue... http://community.us.playstation.com...-s-Creed-Unity-Pre-Order-Problem/m-p/44712233

Damn, I would gladly buy it just to listen to the MUSIC! wow

Question, do I need to play previous AssCreeds to understand this?

There is a total conversion mod of Oblivion that only features German voice acting and subtitles.

I actually found it far more immersive than I would have with English voice acting.

I always play the Metro games with Russian voices and eng subs. I plan on playing this with French voices and Eng subs too. Like others have said, even if the French VS's were horrible, i dont know cause im not a French speaker, and it makes it feel more authentic, so im definitely going with that. I hated the faux Italian accents in AC2, its a real immersion breaker to hear people shouting out english lines in the middle of 16th century Florence

Things that matter in an open world game, in order of importance, for Ubisoft®:

- facial animations
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
- day/night cycle
.
.
.
.
.
- real-time shadows/ reflections

And yes Crossing Eden, yes, I know the reasoning behind these decisions, I know that the best part of the Ubisoft® open world games are the cutscenes. No need to tell me about it.

Ubisoft®, lads.

What's up with this weird fog, haze that's here all the time? Hope it's not that bad during actual gameplay.
Oddly, I've found that while occasionally you'll catch the AC games without the intense fog (suggesting it doesn't need to really be there much so it's likely not that important for hiding draw distance), they seem to keep the haze turned on for the majority of the scenes anyway.
