Halo |OT 20| It really does feel like Halo

Are we gonna have a custom game/forge group for HALO MCC? Seems like a thing that would be really awesome to have. I haven't really been around HaloGAF for other Halo's so I dunno if thats how it usually goes!

Halo CE wasn't Halo. Halo was that Mac game that never released. Rip Halo

True Halo is a real time strategy game.

Noobs.

Nice avatar.

Thanks dude. Finally took the time to figure out how to edit images properly.

Truest Halo = Marathon

If this is true, then Halo is just a Doom rip-off. We are getting places today in dis here Gaf.

EDIT: Holy crap Doom had a functional "sprint" key. Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!

HaloGAF be in full SALT mode again. Feels like the
not so
old days. At least this time around we get a Beta to play so we can have legit criticism instead of what we have currently - baseless SALT founded on a supposed leak, translated from Italian, from someone who probably doesn't play Halo very often (if ever) and only probably played the beta for a few hours (or less).

Stay HaloGAF my friends.

This is wrong. The biggest problem with AAs (in general, stuff like Armor Lock and Promethean Vision had their own issues) was that everyone had different ones. It made proper map design a ton more difficult, and it turned every gunfight into a slot roulette. Once you take that out, you're left with an entirely different animal.
I agree with this. I mean all you need to do to prove that is disable them in a custom game. Instantly improves the experience. The fact that all players will have access to the same abilities, and will no longer have some unknown ace up their sleeve is without a doubt an improvement.

But why not stop there? Why do we need to add back in additional abilities that detract from the shooter experience? Ground pound? Are these Spartans or Titans?

To me it seems that 343 isn't interested in making halo but that is what they're getting paid to do. So they're turning halo into the game they're really wanting to make. Probably sounds harsh of me but that sure is how it feels. Can't belive we've gone through Reach and Halo 4 and we aren't any closer to getting another halo 1-3. I realize that is likely the purpose of the master chief collection though - to fill that itch if you will. Trying not to lose hope for halo 5.

Honestly, we should wait until Halo 5 beta until we even start "feeling" something. They have made it clear on what direction they want to emphasize for Halo. 343 certainly knows what we prefer (at least on HaloGaf, they obviously lurk here from time to time).

I think it's only fair to let them do their thing, but be keep our guard up.

VinFTW was right all along! ;)

yes, CE classic ctf doesnt have any OP vehicle in Bloodgulch or any other map, day saved :)
now the BTB list just needs to feature classic ctf

Were that the case, they wouldn't be with 343. Many of them are talented individuals, if they wanted to create a non Halo game, I'm sure they could start their own developer studio. 343 is made up of Halo fans. They want to keep Halo fun and relevant without it straying too far. Freaking out over rumors and then claiming they just want to make other games but can't is pretty stupid.

I know HaloGAF loves salt, but can we hold off on it until we actually see the gameplay.

I mean getting salty about a translated rumour from an Italian site which contains information which has been confirmed as false is a bit silly when we're getting actual gameplay in 3 days.

While nobody (especially not me) wants Halo to turn into Destiny, I don't think adding in a ground pound necessarily makes Spartans into Titans. I did a post a bit earlier talking about how you could make it work, but the gist is that you need to have a heavy measure of risk involved. Do that, and I think it could work.

EDIT: Also, I think you might have misunderstood my post; to clarify, I meant taking the randomness out of armor abilities. Once you make every player's option set a known quantity, it becomes a very different experience than what Reach/H4 offered, even if they do have AA-like abilities.

For the intelligent conversation.

What?!? Where?!? Don't let any of it get on me!

This is just... why would anyone, ever, ever join a studio formed specifically to make Halo if they didn't want to make Halo? Their vision of the game may be different than yours, but it doesn't mean they're trying to make anything but a Halo game.

I'm only worried about the thruster ability and that the inclusion of the double jump will result in a neutered standard jump.

I'm down for ledge-grabbing. It adds a ton to player mobility and is super fun to use. After experiencing it in Titanfall I was amazed that Destiny didn't have it.

Ah I see what you're saying. I think it really depends on what abilities you keep though. A lot of the Halo 4 AAs were just plain bad for various reasons.

  • Active Camo - that needs to be a map pickup.
  • Promethean Vision - Get your wall hacks out of my Halo.
  • Regeneration Field - Slows down combat.
  • Hardlight Shield - Also slows down combat
  • Jetpack - severely breaks or makes (effective) map design difficult.
  • Autosentry - Didn't use or see this used very often
  • Thruster pack - I actually loved this one! <- Would not mind this being a Halo 5 across the board movement ability
  • Hologram - Also a great balanced ability. Doesn't slow down the game and has no offensive ability. Very great, situational ability.

As long as the abilities in Halo 5 promote fast paced, balanced gameplay that centers around gunplay, I wouldn't mind them. The problem is, we've had 2 releases in a row that just botched AAs, now people have a bad taste in their mouth for them. Don't mean to speak for the general population, but that's the sense that I get from reading articles and forum posts.

I agree entirely.

A little disappointed Halo CE is based on the PC version, I liked my Blood Gulch Banshee less. I'm kinda a purist and would like to play it exactly the same way back on Xbox in 2001.

That being said I'm still picking this game up I can't resist Halo 2 and CE online.

I have a code for the bonded pair skull I doubt i'm going to use before it globally unlocks so i'll give it away, first to quote me and post a sexy dancing chief can have it.

Does the classic setup disable the banshee?

Don't encourage him.

The world would be a much happier place if BigShow and his cohorts realized that it's 2014 now, Halo CE 2 is not likely to happen, and move on.

OHHHH Halo CE 2! Sometimes, I like to close my eyes, and image what it'd be like when Halo CE 2 does come!

BRssss will buzz, Noobs will blow Frankies nub
But I'll be doing what every pro does in Halo!
A pistol, in my hand, tea-bagging bodies on the sand
Probably getting a killtacular in Halo!

I'll finally see a three shot kill, blow out an ARs flame
And find out what happens when BR kids try to aim!
And I can't wait to see, what Halo 2 guys think of me
Just imagine how much cooler I'll be in Halooooo!

Da da, da doo, a bubba bubba boo
The OS and Camo are both so intense
Put them on a timer? it just makes sense!

Rata ta ta dada dada da doo
Halo 2 was a bad time to be a game owner
But put me in CE and I'll have a ? happy time!

When games get rough, I like to hold on to CE
Relaxing in the Blood Gulch sun, on XBCCCCCC
Oh the plasma would be blue, and you guys'll be there too
When I finally do what CE pros do in Haloooo

In HALLOOOOOOOOOO

Can't wait for these same people who championed the changes in Halo 4 to say the same for Halo 5 and then when the game is perhaps even less played than Halo 4, they'll say you know what, you were right, it was too drastic a change. 343 will promise a focus back on classic core Halo gameplay, we'll get Halo 3 Anniversary in 2017 with remastered maps and H3A multiplayer with a Halo 6 beta. The beta will show changes that the other shooter flavors of the month will have, we'll get the same people slrping and saying oh battlefield 5 had this, I've wanted it for a while, I'm happy, and the cycle will continue.
