Halo |OT 20| It really does feel like Halo

A custom game browser would be nice.

But I think a server browser for competative games would defeat all of Max Hoberman's work on skill based matchmaking.

That guy's thread seems to be grasping far and wide.

Skill based algorithms don't mean shit when you are playing with >100 ping. Connection quality should always take precedent.

It would be assumed that Euro-area players will be preferentially sent to Euro-area Azure datacenters automatically.

Unless you're like, the one Euro player in a party of 8 and the rest are American, then it would make sense that you'd end up on a US Azure instance.

edit: they've had the ability to weight connection more over skillmatch since at least halo 3. increasing the strictness increases search times dramatically.

Selecting by region and skilled matchmaking are not mutually exclusive systems. Sure, a server browser might change that, but at the very least we can play the game without a 0.5 second delay during off peak times, right?

There wasn't a single part of my post that said it shouldnt be based on ping as well.

If this is old news, ignore, but no more H2 map remakes planned apparently.

Call him up and ask.

I would probably get some evasive PR answer.

I'm asking you, based on your post, if there should be skill based games that contribute to your rank, searchable through a Custom game browser, so long as the ping is acceptable to all players. Seeing as how Matchmaking can offer wildly different experiences to players, yet still affect their overall rank. I don't see why a Game Browser with Ping and Skill displayed, should be any less accessible to Halo players looking to play quality games and play for Ranking, than a Press A to Matchmake game would.

I seriously can't believe how fast it's crept up though. I remember E3 like it was so recent, but it was almost 5 months ago.
Now the game's a day away, i'm so happy. Maybe it's because i've been so busy. Back in school the waits were excruciatingly long.

No, and my posts never mentioned that there should be. Any game involving a rank based on skill should not allow a player to pick and choose which server he or she would like to play on. That would defeat the purpose of the skill based rank.

Custom games browser detached from ranking? I'm all for it.

Make player's skill based rank server (cluster) specific.

Ranked custom game browser?

That would be so very bad, boosting would be everywhere.

Edit: so the MCC still hasn't downloaded... Left it install over night and came down to find my xbox saying "installation stopped!" Back to 70%. This better finish by Monday night...

Alright cool, so you just agreed that Competitive Halo Games should be searchable via a Server browser.

I don't give a shit about ranks in the long run, just that I can find competitive games with the best players on dedicated servers.

Grinding against randoms for ranks in MM is its own beast, but the real high tier competitive games would be found via server browser. Especially for Halo CE, since very few will vote for it in Matchmaking.

Either you guys can't read, or I don't know what the fuck I'm typing. Because I didn't say I agreed with either of those statements.

IMO:
Ranked should be matchmade, no browser.
Have custom games browser (unranked).

Being able to choose a server by region is fine, but I don't think individual game servers should be searchable for ranked. As long as they don't do overkill with the region choices so people don't boost their rank on some low-population one it might be ok.

It's very rough for people who play off hours in their region that wind up getting put on overseas servers all the time because their ping puts them at a disadvantage to the folks from that region.

I took your Competitive wording literally, so that good players can find other good players to play in a Server Browser environment. They could see the quality of the connection and their opponents via Browsing games, instead of relying on Max Hoberman's/343's skill based Matchmaking.

When I read/hear/say the word Competitive, I think of good, quality Halo players that know what the fuck they are doing, and are playing to win. I think it would be pretty great if MCC decided to finally allow players to see what kind of connection they are connecting to, via Ping values, instead of some arbitrary Colored Bar system.

I was agreeing with you btw...

Albeit in a kinda confusing way... I realised you were saying ranked custom games browser would be bad. And I was agreeing...

I don't agree with your stance on Big Team Halo being the ultimate for competitive Halo, but I see where you are coming from.

H2A is too easy and boring, it's better than Halo Reach, H4, and will be better than Halo 3 when it gets some maps. But, the core gameplay and playmaking abilities of individual players is too low for it to be truly amazing as a spectator sport. Halo 2 Classic and Halo CE are far better in this case.

In my opinion, 6v6 Objective based, Counter-Strike Style Shadowrun would be the absolute best Console Shooter eSport. Tons of strategy, improvisation, fun for spectators, longer kill times and engagements, and a nearly infinite metagame.

BTB Halo has some potential, but organizing it on LAN, along with making it better than a game like Battlefield seems improbable. Halo is a medium paced Quake game for Consoles, it should strive to perfect that niche.
If halo 5 turns out like it sounds we will get our wave based last man standing matches, our arena filled power weapon hordes and games with a faster pace, if 5 can pull it off.

For what I watched last night I enjoyed it, the downtime between matches felt a little long winded at points which is why I tuned out and went to bed.

I'd love to see one flag zanzibar played at top level, doubt we will get that this tourney.

I thought Warlord was too small and too hectic. It was really hard to tell what was happening in the CTF games, one second we'd be watching a BR duel, then they'd cut to someone just as they cap the flag. Without anyway of knowing where everyone was it was kinda boring to watch. Just constant BR duels and then suddenly the flag is capped. There was constant action but it meaningless action. The KOTH matches were a little better but I didn't really enjoy the CTF games.

I think they need some form of map for the spectators which shows the real time position of all the players. That would help massively in understanding the tactics and strategies being employed by the teams.

Side Note: I'm really excited to play this Breakout mode if it's real.

Yeah, Warzone in Gears had some of the most intense matches I've had in gaming. Bringing that to Halo seems like a really good move. Can't wait for tomorrow night to see the game in action.

Does no one else see that Breakout mode is going to be absolutely FILLED with quitters? I die in the opening seconds of a match. Either watch your screen for 10 minutes as players creep around and try to find the enemy... or just quit and join another game.

Note : I'm not condoning quitting in matchmaking, I often advocate for stricter measures taken against quitters, but this one life per round gametype seems like it will be overrun with matches that end 4v2 or 3v1.

If some of you got access to the Halo Channel, take a look at the last (and first) Bulletin, there is some footage of the Halo 5 Guardians, menu & a bit of gameplay/gunplay.

Sprint is still there for those who's asking.

There isn't that many quitters in CS and there will probably be a time limit of 2-3 minutes.

There is bound to be a time limit per round so they don't last forever. Plenty of games have successful round based gametypes and many are successful. Also, you'll keep getting a quitting penalty which would affect your rank/matching.

Because it won't. It also works in Gears of War, Counterstrike, Rainbow Six and many more. ... Why should it be different here? Simply implement a good punishment and a meaningful ranking system or match all quitters together in a dedicated toxic zone and it will be all fine.

Yeah just saw. It's all offscreen footage though and tough to make anything out really. But yeah....sprint is in looks like it.

Makes me think about the tablet/smartglass stuff for garden warfare and battlefield, using it was like having a personal full screen radar in your hands, halo could use something like that (but limited to lan events) so an overhead in real time can be shown off, using it online would break a game like halo too easily.

Could you take screens? Where do you got the app from?

Expected but still very disappointing.

Halo 5's metacritic would be locked under 90 if it didn't have sprint.
The game wouldn't feel modern enough, especially for those who are already f****** sick of shooters.

Sad, but true.

I fucking hate how everyone seems to demand that all FPS games play the same. If you look at the platformer genre, for example, Mario/Sonic/Rayman/Donkey Kong are all vastly different to one another, but nobody bats an eye that there's no Tanooki suit in Rayman or whatever.

Shooters though? God forbid you don't play identically to Call of Duty. Anything else would be 'archaic'.

I feel like it would be quite fast paced rounds. Put a 2 minute timer on there or something.
