They are at fault for adopting pathetically cynical attitudes with regards to their audience in that they're assuming that people will appreciate having to do their homework with some stupid movie to know who the main character of the new game is.

"Watch this movie to know who the new protagonist of the series is." That's all this is. It's completely cynical, profit-oriented bullshit that throws all appreciation for storytelling out the window in favour of a bottom line.

Or maybe it is for the benefit of fans? I am a HUGE fan of the Halo franchise. I love it when they release new content regardless of the medium. I follow the games, novels, shows, comics, terminals...hell even the in cannon data drops and puzzles they do in waypoint...I love them all!

Why is it different then say starting with Halo 4 and then bitching that you have no idea who Master Chief is?

You whine about "PROFIT! MONEY! GREED! BOTTOM LINE! CAPITALISM!" about a show that they are giving away for free anyway? Seriously making no sense here man.

Why does Halo need to evolve? You guys keep spouting this shit and never back up why. What's your favourite MP shooters by the way? That'll help explain a lot.

From a normal players perspective every Halo game would have nothing new from the last one so adding stuff makes sense.

For a tournament player, theres' a generational update that needs to exist just to be able to continue playing it, but as long as the game remains the same, he can continue improving his skills, but if the game changes every time, what sort of professional player would ever set their sights on the game? Having to retrain every year or two everything you know because something changed the whole game hurts its competitiveness.

I enjoy armor abilities and love sprint, so I understand why adding new things is always exciting, but also understand how cumbersome it is for professional play.

Although the meltdowns aren't completely unwarranted given Halo 4's reception and design, I still think we need to wait to actually see things in action. Just because we've seen one implementation of Sprint and ADS doesn't mean we know exactly how Halo 5's gameplay will work.

The problem I have with sprint is that people get back into the action too quickly. It kind of ruins the slow tension the previous Halo games had where both teams were a few points away from winning and everyone was slowly moving through the map with their trigger finger ready. Aside from that, I'm not a fan of the Halo 4 HUD and UI, it feels a bit lifeless and robotic. Another thing that was really missing from Halo 4 was the community. 343 really needs to get better at managing the community to keep everything alive. It was something Bungie excelled at and imo was a big reason why Halo 1-3 were as popular as they were.

Part of that was not implementing a Ranking System. The most competitive aspects of Halo 2/3 was Ranked playlists. Without those every match becomes social.

I could say some nature quote about how evolution is natural blah blah blah. But I won't, i'll just say if the game doesn't provide some sort of change over large periods of time, it will die. That is a fact, you can see this happen with plenty of games, where they are starting to add features and functions which are catering/pleasing different sorts of crowds.

343 cannot keep PURELY appealing to the same crowd 10 years ago, but they cannot completely alienate them as they did with H4. A fine balance is to be approached, and that is something I can see with H5 (cosmetic ADS, balanced sprint).

Honestly the problem with getting back into the action so quickly has less to do with sprint than it has to do with the respawn timer. If I recall, Halo 4's respawn timer was atrociously low (something like 2-3 seconds or some stupid shit?). It should be something like 10 seconds, or more IMO.

Seriously. I'm sure the MC Collection's multiplayer numbers will tell us just how badly the series needs to be evolved or modernized or whatever.

I've been a fan of the series since the first one. And even back then I thought it was annoying how slow you where.

I like Sprint. If you don't that's fine.

Blows my mind how anyone can be a fan of series and actually like Halo 4. Are you a big MP player or just a fan of the campaign?

I wanna see numbers showing the amount of players on 1/2/3 compared to 4, must be embarrassing for 343.

I'm gonna give my two cents and say that this is typical Halo fan bickering and that the game is going to be much more interesting than the (obviously transitional) mess that was Halo 4. If you want straight old Halo, just play MCC. Halo's evolving just like every franchise does, and whether that's for better or worse, we won't know for sure until we get our hands on it.

Also, this. The new ranking system is completely useless. It isn't a representation of a person's skill, so why is it there? The thing with the old ranking system was that the people that wanted to just play casually got to play with people who wanted to play casually and the people who cared about winning the match got to play with other people that wanted to win the match. Sure, there were some times when you would get screwed over by it, but it was still by far the best ranking system I've seen in an fps. I don't see why we couldn't have both. The current ranking system for unlocking armor and the old ranking system for people who care about rank. That's the way Halo 3 had it and it was perfect. Something the old ranking system did was really important: It got people invested in the game. I know that if it wasn't there, I wouldn't have played as much Halo as I did. I don't know why 343 doesn't realize this and let us have the best of both worlds.

Woah, why can't someone enjoy sprint in Halo?

I've seen dozens of videos and graphs and shit, but if a large majority of people like it, so be it.

Because it was one of the factors that ruined the multilayer in 4? That's why I asked if he liked campaign or MP, by all means enjoy sprinting about in campaign that's fine by me.

Some of you (spoiler: almost all of you) need to realize that it's not 2003 anymore and your favorite game series can't stay the same and it needs to grow up, just like you do

Even if the changes are detrimental to the gameplay? Because that has been the case with sprint in Halo games.

Implementing Sprint is not copying... It's something which has existed in COUNTLESS different genre's of games, FPS, TPS, RPG etc...

Right but they clearly got it from COD, even the animation is similar. Further proof is adding perks, killstreaks, flinch, etc. You cant be that naive.

What do the sprint and ads mechanics have to do with maturity?

Why do people keep referring to them like they're essential to the evolution of the game?

Yeah, guys. Just...adapt. Adapt to something that makes Halo gameplay worse, guys. Just adapt!
Thats your opinion. Do you honestly believe this will make it worse for everyone or just you?

Good input. I feel like you have thought out the effects these have two mechanics have on map design, weapon design and the Halo formula in general.
Man its just a fucking game. If you are not trying to play this professionally in some e sports kind of setting, then whats wrong with learning new controls, ways of playing? I understand some dont like change but come on.

I'm sorry but how does sprint and ADS equal more grown up? I'm incredibly interested in how you made a correlation between these things.

Some people enjoy arena shooters more than cod style ads shooters. It isn't about adapting, it's about preference.

And the fact that Halo was one of the few games that catered to that preference.

How is it cynical if it comes free with the MCC?

Something which most people here and beyond will buy anyway?

Last I heard the MCC wasn't free, which makes this argument completely null and playing right into MS's hands in assuming everyone is just going to pay for something they've already payed.

You have zero appreciation for good storytelling if you think it's acceptable to expect the audience to do their homework (into spin-offs of all things) before consuming a story. For example, you can expect people to know the Chief because they're playing Halo 4, the fourth entry in a series ( a good writer would still be able to make the character relate-able and strongly defined to newcomers to the series, anyways ). Expecting people to know the new guy because he's in a movie off-shot that's not connected to the main series is cynical and profit-driven. No two ways about it.

Your attitude, and that of people who share the same attitude, is exactly the reason why the Halo series is going to continue to have horrible, fragmented stories that refuse to stand on their own in any way because die-hard fans will gobble up any shit MS put out as long is it has 'Halo' plastered on it.

For fans of the series before Halo: Reach I would imagine it makes it worse. Sprint has brought nothing but problems to the series.

Though I get the feeling you're not even a fan of the series, you're coming off as someone just here to troll people who are.
